Neither Hawkins (18-0, 11 KO's) nor his slated opponent, Subrial Matias of Puerto Rico (15-1, 15 KO's) were the reason for the bout being canceled. The entire card was taken off the schedule due to a situation in the main event between welterweights Kudratillo Abdukakhorov and Sergey Lipinets, who was scheduled to compete for the interim IBF title. Abdukakhorov had a visa issue that would not have been cleared up in time for him to come to the United States for COVID-19 testing.
No official word if or when the Hawkins-Matias bout would be rescheduled. However, there is a possibility the bout might land on the Gervonta Davis-Leo Santa Cruz pay-per-view card that was just rescheduled for Saturday, October 31st at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. Davis and Hawkins are both promoted by Mayweather Promotions and they train in the same gym, the Upton Boxing Center in Baltimore.
