Isley Wins Bronze In Hamburg!

Middleweight Troy Isley has concluded his international trip with a bronze medal at the 2017 Men's Elite World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.

Isley lost his semifinal match against Oleksandr Khyzhniak of the Ukraine by a 4-1 score.  Team USA will have two bronze medals and one boxer, Duke Regan of Cincinnati, OH, going for a gold medal in the championship on Saturday.  This is the best showing for the Americans at the Elite Championships since 1999.

Hurd To Defend Title Against Former World Champion Trout October 14 In Brooklyn!

IBF Super Welterweight champion "Swift" Jarrett Hurd will make the first defense of his title against former world champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout on Saturday, October 14th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Hurd (20-0, 14 KO's), a native of Accokeek, MD, won his title with a ninth-round TKO over Tony Harrison on February 25th at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, AL.  Hurd has knocked out his last six opponents.

Trout, who is from Las Cruces, NM (30-3, 17 KO's), is a former WBA Super Welterweight titleholder, who won his title in February of 2011 with a unanimous decision over Rigoberto Alvarez in Guadalajara, Mexico.  Trout made four defenses of the WBA title before losing to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez by unanimous decision in April of 2013 in San Antonio, TX.  Alvarez's WBC title was also on the line.  Trout would try two more times for a world title, dropping unanimous decisions to Erislandy Lara and, in his most recent outing, to Jermall Charlo for the IBF title in May of 2016 in Las Vegas.  Charlo would vacate the title and Hurd would pick up the belt.

The bout will be part of a Showtime tripleheader in which three of the super welterweight titles will be on the line. Lara, of Houston, TX by way of  Cuba (24-2-2, 14 KO's) defends the WBA Super World Super Welterweight title and the IBO title against undefeated US Olympian 2012  Terrell Gausha of Cleveland, OH (20-0, nine KO's) and Jermell Charlo (29-0, 14 KO's) of Houston, TX will defend the WBC crown against fellow undefeated Erickson Lubin of Orlando, FL (18-0, 13 KO's).

Isley Heads Into Semis In Hamburg!

Middleweight Troy Isley of Alexandria, VA has moved into the semifinals of the 2017 AIBA Elite Men's Championships in Hamburg, Germany. 

Isley won his quarter final bout by a 3-2 decision over Israil Madrimov of Uzbekistan in Tuesday's action.  This means Isley will finish with no worse than a bronze medal.  Isley is one of three Americans still left in the tournament.

Wednesday is a rest day for all competitors.  Isley will return on Thursday with a semifinal contest against Oleksandr Khyzhniak of the Ukraine.

Isley Advances To Quarterfinals In Hamburg!

Alexandria, VA middleweight Troy Isley has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 AIBA Men's Elite World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.

After winning his first bout by walkover, Isley shocked many people in attendance by winning a 5-0 decision over two-time Egyptian Olympian and 2015 Middleweight world champion Hosam Abdin.  Isley, who is the youngest member of the USA Elite team, will look to clinch a bronze medal if he can defeat Israli Madrimov of Uzebekistan on Tuesday.

By the way, one of the coaches of the USA squad is Kay Koroma, also of Alexandria.

Quigley Scores Second-Round TKO In Germany!

Gaithersburg, MD welterweight Gerome "GQ" Quigley, Jr. scored a second-round TKO over Orlen Padilla on August 26th at the Hugenottentalle in Neu-Isenberg, Germany.  The win earns Quigley another regional title -- The German version of the World Boxing Union Welterweight title.

Quigley fought off an early Padilla charge to come back strong and stop Padilla.  No word on the official time of the stoppage.

Quigley remains undefeated at 18-0, 16 KO's.  Padilla falls to 27-7-1, 20 KO's.

Davis Scores Ninth-Round Knockout In Las Vegas!

Baltimore, MD's Gervonta "Tank" Davis has scored a eighth-round knockout over Francisco Fonseca of Costa Rica tonight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Davis, the former IBF Super Featherweight champion who lost his belt on the scales by being two pounds overweight, fought well in spurts but had a tough time keeping Fonseca off of him at times.

In the eighth round, Davis hit Fonseca with a body shot followed by two right hands that looked like they landed slightly behind the head.  Fonseca dropped to his knees and referee Russell Mora counted him out.  The bout ended at 37 seconds of the eighth.

Davis remains undefeated at 19-0, 18 KO's.  Fonseca loses for the first time and he is now 19-1-1, 13 KO's.

Aleem Knocked Out In Third; Nicholson Scores KO In Second!

Richmond, VA middleweight Immanuwel "The Chosen One" Aleem suffered his first pro loss as he was knocked out in the third round by Hugo Centeno, Jr. of Oxnard, CA  Aleem went down from a Centeno left hook and the bout was stopped at 2:27.  Aleem is now 17-1-1, 10 KO's while Centeno rises to 26-1, 14 KO's.  The bout was televised by FS1.

On the undercard, Laurel, MD super middleweight Demond "D'Best At It" Nicholson scored a TKO at the end of the second round against Josue Obando of Guadalajara, Mexico.  After a hard series of punches, Obando could not answer the bell for the third round.  Nicholson is now 18-2-1, 17 KO's while Obando falls to 15-17-1, 12 KO's.

Davis Loses IBF Title On Scales!

Gervonta Davis has been stripped of the IBF Super Featherweight championship because he came in too heavy in his bout against Francisco Fonseca at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Davis came in at 132 pounds, two pounds more than the 130-pound limit while Fonseca came in at the 130-pound limit.  If Davis wins the bout, the IBF title will be vacated.  Fonseca can win the title with a victory over Davis.

Aleem, Nicholson Hit Scales For Bouts In Miami, OK!

Immanuwel Aleem and Demond Nicholson weighed in for their bouts later tonight at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK.  Aleem and Hugo Centeno, Jr. both weighed in at 158.8 pounds for their10-round contest.

The WBC has made it clear that this bout is not for the WBC Silver Middleweight title.  Aleem, who won that belt in January, has apparently been stripped of the title because of inactivity.

Nicholson (17-2-1, 16 KO's) weighed in at 167.6 pounds for his eight -round contest against veteran Josue Obando of Guadalajara, Mexico.  Obando came in three pounds over the super middleweight limit at 171.4 pounds.  Obando (15-16-2, 12 KO's) faces a Beltway Boxer for the third time in his career.  Obando lost by fourth-round disqualification to Travis Reeves on June 17 in Baltimore, MD.  D'Mitrius Ballard won a six-round unanimous decision over Obando in June of 2015 in Philadelphia, PA. 

Baxter, Taylor Gain Victories In North Carolina!

Two Washington, DC-based boxers scored knockout victories in Greensboro, NC on Saturday, August 19th.  Welterweight Johnathan "Bad Badger" Baxter won the vacant UNBC Welterweight title with a second-round knockout of Isaiah Robinson on Durham, NC.  Baxter is now 8-1, seven KO's while Robinson is 3-6, two KO's.

Baxter's cousin, super middleweight Quinton Taylor, made his pro debut with a first-round knockout of Keshair Lindsey of Wilson, NC.  Lindsey is 0-2.

Reed Remains Undefeated With Dominant Unanimous Decision In Nebraska!

Waldorf, MD super lightweight Mike "Yes, Indeed" Reed remained undefeated with a dominant 10-round unanimous decision over Robert "Red Hot" Frankel of Denver, CO tonight at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, NB.

Reed battered Frankel all around the ring during this contest.  Give Frankel a lot of credit for staying upright but Reed was in complete control winning the contest by a 100-90 shutout across the board.  Reed, who is ranked 10th in the world by the WBO, is now 23-0, 12 KO's while Frankel falls to 35-18-1, seven KO's.

Reed Weighs 141 For 10-Rounder In Nebraska!

Mike Reed weighed in at 141 pounds for his 10-round contest against Robert Frankel that will take place on Saturday at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, NB.  Frankel came in at 139 pounds.   The Reed-Frankel bout will be part of the streaming portion of the card that will be on the ESPN app and on ESPN3.

Free Amateur Boxing Events Coming This Month!

There are two amateur boxing events that will be free to the public coming up in the next two weeks.  On August 18-20, there will be the return of the Mayor's Cup Boxing Tournament which will take place at the Raymond Recreation Center located at 3725 10th Street in Northwest DC.

The Mayor's Cup has been a very noteworthy tournament over the years that has involved many of the Beltway's current and former world champions.  On Friday the 18th, the first bout will begin at 6 PM ET.  On Saturday and Sunday, the action gets underway at noon.

Then on Saturday, August 26th, there will be the boxing event that will take place during the 10th annual Cease Fire Don't Smoke The Brothers and Sisters cookout at the Upshur Recreation Center at 14th and Arkansas Avenue in Northwest DC.  The event offers free food and health checkups and proposes a six-month moratorium to stop the killings in the city.  The cookout begins at noon and the boxing card will start at 3 PM.

Reed Faces Frankel August 19th In Nebraska!

Undefeated Waldorf, MD super lightweight Mike "Yes, Indeed" Reed returns to action in a 10-round contest against Robert "Red Hot" Frankel of Denver, Colorado on Saturday, August 19th at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, NB.

Reed (22-0, 12 KO's) last fought on April 8th and won a 10-round unanimous decision over Reyes Sanchez at the MGM National Harbor Casino in Oxon Hill, MD.  Reed has gone the distance in his last three contests.  Reed is ranked number 10 by the WBO.

Frankel (35-17-1, seven KO's) is a former WBC USNBC Super Lightweight titleholder who has fought the likes of former contender Michael Stewart as well as former world champion Paul Spadafora and current WBA Welterweight champ Lamont Peterson, who won an eight-round unanimous decision over Frankel in Little Rock, AK in September of 2005.  Frankel last fought on April 8th and won a 10-round unanimous decision over Johnny Rodriguez in Denver.

This bout will be on the undercard of the World Super Lightweight Unification bout between WBC/WBO champion Terrence Crawford and WBA/IBF titleholder Julius Indongo.  The Reed/Frankel contest is scheduled to be shown on the ESPN3 channel or the ESPN streaming app.

Beltway Weekend Wrap-Up!

Along with the Nation's Fight Night card at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC, a number of Beltway Boxers were in action elsewhere on Saturday, August 12th.  Here is a recap.

Four locals participated on the Ponytail Promotions card at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, VA.  Undefeated Bethesda, MD bantamweight Alexandru "Spartan" Marin scored a second-round TKO over former WBA and WBC Interim Minimumweight champion Juan "El Exterminador" Palacios of Managua, Nicaragua.

Marin, a native of Romania, dropped Palacios twice before the bout was stopped at 2:21.  Marin, who holds the IBO International Bantamweight championship, is now 14-0, 10 KO's.  Palacios has lost five in a row and his record falls to 29-9-2, 22 KO's.

Ashburn, VA super lightweight Seth "Killer B" Billups also remained undefeated by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Rynell Griffin of New Orleans, LA.  Billups won by scores of 58-55 across the board to raise his record to 9-0, six KO's while Griffin's record drops to 8-31-2, two KO's.

Also on the card, Ashburn middleweight Carlos Cruz lost a four-round unanimous decision to George Sheppard of Newport News, VA.  Cruz is now 1-2, one KO and Sheppard wins his first pro bout and is now 1-2. 

DC super lightweight Lamont White lost a six-round unanimous decision to Portsmouth, VA veteran "Dangerous" Dorin Spivey.  No scores were given.  White is now 1-9, one KO, one NC while Spivey is now 49-7, 33 KO's.

At Turner Hall in Madison, WI, Silver Spring, MD middleweight Ashton "The Goon" Sykes made a successful pro debut with a four-round unanimous decision over Jeffrey Wright of Milwaukee, WI.  Sykes won a Washington Golden Gloves championship earlier this year.  Wright is now 4-8-1, four KO's.

Harris Wins Main Event By Unanimous Decision!

Hyattsville, MD welterweight Patrick Harris won a six-round unanimous decision over a very game Jesus Lule of Mexico.

Harris relied mostly on his inside work, landing crunching shots to Lule's body.  Harris didn't rely much on his jab as he was able to pummel Lule inside.

Harris won by shutout across the board, 60-54 to remain undefeated at 12-0, seven KO's.  Lule falls to 11-23-1, two KO's.

Ennis Makes Short Work Of Cano!

In the co-feature at the Howard Theatre,  highly -touted Philadelphia, PA welterweight Jaron "Boots" Ennis made short work of Ricardo Cano of Guadalajara, Mexico, scoring a first-round knockout.

Ennis jumped on Cano early and backed him into a neutral corner.  Ennis landed a left hand to the body and followed with a sweeping right hook to the head to drop Cano.  After reaching the count of eight, Referee Sharon Sands stopped the bout at 40 seconds.

Ennis is now 14-0, 12 KO's while Cano falls to 17-14-5, 10 KO's.

Martin Wins Unanimous Decision!

DC welterweight Kareem "Reemo" Martin bounced back from suffering his first pro loss by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Evincii "Prize Fighter" Dixon of Lancaster, PA.

Martin's offensive output turned Dixon into a punching bag with feet as Dixon gave back very little offense in return.  Martin punctuated his performance with quick and powerful flurries in the final round.  Martin scored a shutout on all the judges's cards. 

Martin is now 9-1-1, three KO's.  Dixon drops to 7-19-2, two KO's.

Crews -Dezurn Captures Unanimous Decision In Slugfest!

Baltimore, MD light heavyweight Franchon Crews-Dezurn won a four-round unanimous decision over "Lady Rocky" Sydney LeBlanc of Gretna, LA.

The bout was a slugfest from start to finish as both ladies landed clubbing shots at each other.  LeBlanc tried to live up to the Rocky nickname as she called Crews-Dezurn in to exchange punches.

The judges saw a more powerful output from Crews-Dezurn as she won the bout by shutout across the board.  Crews-Dezurn is now 2-1, one KO.  LeBlanc's record drops to 4-3-1.

Brown Scores Second-Round TKO!

Bladensburg, MD lightweight "The Dark Menace" Tiara Brown scored a second-round TKO over "Unpredictable" Tammy Franks of San Antonio, TX.

Brown was able to land strong shots with both hands that battered Franks all over the ring before the bout was stopped by referee Brent Bovell at 49 seconds of the second round.  Brown is now 3-0, two KO's.  Franks is now 2-29-1.

Lee Looks Impressive In Second-Round Stoppage!

In the third bout of the evening at the Howard Theatre, Coachella, CA welterweight Brandun Lee put on a sterling performance en route to a second-round TKO over the normally tough Roy "The Reaper" Garcia of Alice, TX.

Lee quickly started his dominance by landing precise blows to the head and body.  The confident 18 -year-old Lee was so in control, he took a brief moment to pose in front of a ringside photographer during the action.

Lee quickly overpowered Garcia  before referee Sharon Sands halted the bout at 1:23 of the second round.

Lee remains undefeated at 5-0, four KO's.  Garcia falls to 4-24-1, two KO's.

Irby Makes Short Work Of Late Sub!

Tyrek "I.G.B. Irby of Hyattsville, MD scored an easy first-round KO over late sub Anthony Alston of Raleigh, NC.

Alston was extremely overmatched as Irby pressured him and landed numerous punches.  Alston looked for a place to fall and finally did on his back.  Referee David Braslow counted to 10 and the bout ended at 58 seconds.

Irby is now 4-0, two KO's while Alston is 0-2.

Tazhibay Opens Howard Theatre Card With Unanimous Decision Win!

In the first bout of the Nation's Fight Night card at the historic Howard Theatre in Washington, DC, welterweight Shynggyskhan Tazhibay won a four-round unanimous decision over veteran Robert "Hitman" Hill of Gulfport, MS.

Tazhibay landed solid shots to the body throughout the contest.  Hill was very durable but had no offense in return.  Tazhibay won by shutout (40-36) across the board to raise his record to 5-0, two KO's.  Hill is now 7-34-1, one KO.

Kirby Drops Debut In Philadelphia!

Washington, DC light heavyweight Dameron Kirby had a rough start to his pro career on August 11th when he was knocked out in the first round by Christian Montano of Houston, TX at the Sugar House Casino in Philadelphia, PA.

No word on how the knockout took place but the bout was stopped at 2:25.  Montano is now 2-0, two KO's.

Isley To Represent US in Germany August 25-September 2!

Alexandria, VA amateur middleweight Troy Isley will make his second visit to Germany this year as he will be competing for the United States in the 2017 Elite Men's World Championships in Hamburg August 25-September 2.

Isley won his first international victory in Open Division competition in Halle, Germany at the Chemistry Cup.  Isley advanced to the semifinals of that tournament in March.

Isley punched his ticket to the Elite championships by finishing in the top eight at the Continental Championships in Honduras in June.

Currently, Isley and his US Elite Men's High Performance Squad teammates are in Cologne, Germany attending an acclimation camp.  The US team is making final preparations along with boxers from Brazil, Germany, Hungary, Jordan, Mongolia, The Netherlands and Poland.

Isley is the second Beltway amateur to compete in Germany this month.  Lorenzo Simpson of Baltimore, MD won a silver medal at the Brandenburg Cup in Frankfurt, Germany on August 5th.

August 12th Howard Theatre Card Coming Together!

The "Nation's Fight Night" card that will take place on Saturday, August 12th at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC is coming together.

Headlining the card will be undefeated Hyattsville, MD super lightweight Patrick Harris who will take on veteran Jesus Lule of Fort Myers, FL in a six-round contest.  Harris (11-0, seven KO's) won an eight-round unanimous decision against Omar Garcia in his last outing on April 8th at the MGM National Harbor Casino in Oxon Hill, MD.

Lule, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil (11-22-1, two KO's), scored a second-round TKO over Ismael Serrano on June 27th in Bethlehem, PA.  This is Lule's second visit to the Nation's Capitol. Lule lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Lamont Roach, Jr. in March of 2016 at the DC Armory.

DC welterweight Kareem "Reemo" Martin returns to action against Evincii "Prize Fighter" Dixon of Lancaster, PA in a six-round bout.  This will be the first bout for Martin (8-1-1, three KO's) since his eighth-round TKO loss to David Grayton on August 23rd in Bethlehem, PA.   Dixon (7-18-2, two KO's) has fought his last four bouts in California and is 0-3-1 in those contests.  Dixon's last outing saw him get knocked out in the second round by Ruslan Madiev on April 6th in Costa Mesa.

There will be two ladies bouts on the card.  Baltimore, MD super middleweight "The Heavy-Hitting Diva" Franchon Crews-Dezurn will be in a four-round bout against Sydney "Ginger the Ninja" LeBlanc of Gretna, LA. Crews-Dezurn (1-1, one KO) bounced back from his pro debut loss to newly-crowned world champion Claressa Shields in November to score a first-round TKO over Latashia Burton on March 25th at the University of the District of Columbia.  LeBlanc (4-2-1) lost her last bout against Shields, dropping an eight-round unanimous decision on June 16th in Detroit, MI.  LeBlanc also has a victory over Burton -- a four-round unanimous decision in June of 2013.

Also, Bladensburg, MD featherweight "The Dark Menace" Tiara Brown will battle veteran Tammy "The Tigress" Franks of San Antonio, TX in a four-round contest.  Brown (2-0, one KO) won a four-round unanimous decision over Natalie King on the March 25th UDC card.  Franks (2-28-1) lost a four-round unanimous decision to Elvina White on April 25th in Tunica, MS.

In another four-round bout, undefeated DC super welterweight Shynggyskhan Tazhibay will face Robert "Hitman" Hill of Gulfport, MS.  Tazhibay (4-0, two KO's) makes his first appearance since May of 2016 when he won a four-round unanimous decision over Ahmet Kayrelti in Timonium, MD.  Hill (7-33-1, one KO) won a six-round unanimous decision over Roy Garcia in his last outing on July 29th in Gulfport.

DC lightweight Tyrek "I.G.B" Irby is scheduled to take on Pablo Capul of San Diego, CA by way of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico in a six-round contest. However, that has not been finalized.  Irby (3-0, one KO) won a six-round unanimous decision over Brandon Sanudo on June 3rd in Fort Washington, MD.  Capul (9-23, five KO's) lost a four-round unanimous decision to the debuting Brandon Trejo on May 19th in Ontario, CA.

Also on the card will be undefeated Philadelphia, PA welterweight Jaron "Boots" Ennis who will face Ricardo Cano of Guadalajara, Mexico in an eight-round bout.  After a stellar amateur career, Ennis (13-0, 11 KO's) has had an outstanding start to his pro career. In his last outing, Ennis stopped Robert Hill in the third round in Durham, NC.  This is the second trip to the Beltway for Ennis.  In June of 2016, Ennis needed just 20 seconds to stop Deshawn Debose in Springfield, VA.  Recently, Ennis was named the Philadelphia Boxing Rookie of the Year.

Cano (17-13-5, 10 KO's) makes his first trip to the Continental United States with this bout.  Cano will try to bounce back from suffering a first-round knockout against Jelame Garcia on March 25th in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

California rookie welterweight Brandun Lee will compete in a four-round contest against veteran Roy Garcia of Alice, TX.  The 18-year-old Lee (4-0, three KO's) makes a quick return to action after winning a four-round unanimous decision over Donovain Battle on July 29th in Charlotte, NC.

Garcia (4-24-1, three KO's) also returns quickly after suffering his July 29th loss to Robert Hill in Gulfport, MS.  Garcia returns to DC for the second time after dropping a six-round unanimous decision to Cobia Breedy on March 25th at UDC.  Garcia also lost to Eric Hernandez by six-round unanimous decision in December of 2016 in Springfield, VA.

Davis Now To Defend Title Against Undefeated Fonseca!

There has been a change in the opponent for IBF Super Featherweight champion Gervonta Davis on Saturday, August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Davis will now face undefeated Francisco Fonseca of San Ramon, Alajuela, Costa Rica in the co-feature to the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor bout.  Fonseca (19-0-1, 13 KO's) is the IBF Inter-Continental Super Featherweight champion and is ranked seventh by the IBF.  Fonseca last fought on March 31 and scored a third-round knockout over Eliecer Lanzas in San Jose, Costa Rica. Fonseca will compete in the United States for the first time in his career.

Davis To Defend Title Against Former Three-Time Champ Martinez August 26th!

IBF Super Featherweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis of Baltimore, MD will make the second defense of his title against former three-time world champion Ramon "Rocky" Martinez of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, on Saturday, August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.  The bout will be a featured bout on the Floyd Mayweather, Jr.-Conor McGregor card and will be shown on the pay-per-view telecast.

Davis (18-0, 17 KO's) made a successful first defense of his world title with a dominant third-round TKO over Liam Walsh on May 20th in London, England.  Martinez (29-3-3, 17 KO's) has held the WBO version of the super featherweight title three times.  In March of 2009, Martinez won his first title, scoring a fourth-round TKO over Nicky Cook in Manchester, England.  Martinez made two defenses before losing to Ricky Burns by 12th round unanimous decision in September of 2010 in Glasgow, Scotland.

In September of 2012, Martinez would regain the WBO title with a 12-round split decision over Miguel Beltran, Jr. in Las Vegas.  After two defenses, Martinez would drop the title to Mikey Garcia by eighth-round TKO in Corpus Christi, TX in November of 2013.  Martinez would win the title a third time with a 12-round unanimous decision over Orlando Salido in April of 2015 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  After battling Salido to a draw in the rematch in Las Vegas in September of 2015, Martinez would lose the title to Vasyl Lomachenko in his last outing on June 11th in New York City.

Lockett, Singletary Fall in Atlantic City Bouts!

Two Beltway Boxers lost in bouts Saturday at the Claridge Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.  Willis "The Prophet" Lockett of Takoma Park, MD dropped a six-round unanimous decision to undefeated Trenton, NJ cruiserweight Mike Hilton.  Lockett lost by scores of 60-54, 58-56 and 60-53 to drop his record to 14-21-6, five KO's.  Hilton went the distance for the first time in his pro career and he is now 7-0. six KO's.

Washington, DC middleweight Jessie Singletary was stopped in the first round by Shaddy Gamhour of Pensacola, FL.  Gamhour dropped Singletary with a right hand and the bout was halted at 1:43.  Singletary is now 0-3.  Gamhour, who is trained by former world champion Roy Jones, Jr., raised his record to 4-0, three KO's.

Simpson Secures Silver In Germany!

Reisterstown, MD middleweight Lorenzo Simpson captured a silver medal during competition at the Brandenburg Cup in Frankfurt, Germany.

After winning his semifinal contest on Friday against a boxer from Israel, Simpson dropped a split decision in the 165-Pound championship Saturday to Ivan Papakin of the Ukraine.  Boxers from the United States won three gold and two silver medals during the competition.

Lockett, Singletary Tip Scales In Atlantic City!

Two Beltway Boxers weighed in for contests that will be held on Saturday at the Claridge Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

Willis Lockett of Takoma Park, MD (14-20-6, five KO's) weighed in at 194.6 pounds for his six-round contest against Mike Hilton of Trenton, NJ.  Hilton (6-0, six KO's) came in at 198 1/2.

Jessie Singletary of Washington, DC (0-2) tipped the scales at 167.3 pounds for his four-round bout against Shaddy Gamhour of Pensacola, FL (3-0, two KO's) who weighed 163 1/2.

Simpson Wins First International Contest In Germany!

Reisterstown, MD amateur middleweight Lorenzo Simpson made a successful international debut by winning his first contest at the Brandenburg Cup Tournament in Frankfurt, Germany.

Simpson won a 5-0 decision over Tyson Aloama of Italy in a bout on Wednesday.  Simpson will now face Yan Zak of Israel in today's semifinal action.

Beltway Amateurs Win Three Titles At Ringside World Championships In Missouri!

Congratulations to three Beltway amateurs who captured titles at the Ringside World Championships at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence, MO this past week.

Greenbelt, MD's Amelia Moore won her second straight major amateur championship in July by winning the Ringside title in the Women's Senior Open 141 Pound division.  Moore defeated Crystal Aceves of El Paso, TX in the championship bout.  Earlier in the month, Moore won her first Women's National Golden Gloves championship.

Maximus Garland of Waldorf, MD won the Boys Junior Open (15-16) title at 125 pounds with a victory over Angel Garcia of Laredo, TX.   Also, Washington, DC's Adam Weers, who serves as the chair of the DC Boxing And Wrestling Commission, captured his second straight Ringside title in the Men's Masters division with a win over Alfonso Vasquez of St. Paul, MN.
