Kisner, Lockett Drop Decisions In Atlantic City!
Baltimore, MD cruiserweight "Slick" Nick Kisner lost an eight-round split decision to Lamont Capers of Hawley, PA.
According to William Holmes of BoxingInsider.com, Kisner had moments in the bout where he was able to outwork his opponent, but he spent too much time during the fight with his head in his opponents chest and wasn’t throwing enough punches. Capers landed the harder shots in the bout and Kisner lost a point for holding in the seventh round. Kisner did get the decision on one scorecard, 76-75. However, the other two judges each scored the contest for Capers, 77-74.
Kisner's record falls to 16-3-1, six KO's while Capers broke a four-bout winless streak and is now 6-8-2.
Takoma Park, MD cruiserweight Willis "The Prophet" Lockett lost a six-round unanimous decision in a rematch against Chuck "The Professor" Mussachio of Middle Township, NJ.
Mussachio kept Lockett at bay with his jab and Lockett could not counter effectively. Holmes said Lockett did rock Mussachio with a right hand over the top in the fifth round but Mussachio won the bout with his jab and better footwork. Mussachio won by scores of 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56.
Lockett is now 14-17-5, five KO's while Mussachio, in his first bout in three years, is now 19-3-2, five KO's.

Bute Camp Makes Statement On Positive Test!
“I am surprised and sorry about this. I don’t understand what led to this positive result,” Bute said. “I have always passed every anti-doping test that I was asked to take since I won a world title. More recently for my fight against James DeGale, in Quebec City, last November, I was tested eight times from before my training camp until after my fight. I have never taken any illegal products. I have a complete trust in my team. There will be an analysis of the B sample and I am sure that this result will be negative.”
Bute’s promoter Yvon Michel stated, “GYM has always been strongly in favor of a strict anti-doping policy to keep the sport of boxing clean. We are really surprised by this first result and we now hope that the B sample proves that the first result was wrong. Until then, we support Lucian Bute.”

Bute Tests Positive For Banned Steroid-Like Substance After April 30 Title Bout In DC!
The WBC was notified by the District of Columbia Boxing and Wrestling Commission that Bute tested positive for the substance ostarine, which also goes by the names enobosarm and MK-2866. The substance causes steroid-like muscle growth without the side effects of steroids. Ostarine has been on the World Anti-Doping Agency banned list since 2008.
The bout between Jack and Bute ended in a 12-round majority draw. Jack expressed his feelings about Bute's positive findings to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael:
"This is the hurt business. You can die in the ring. It's bad. I like [Bute] as a person. He's a nice guy, but that's not cool at all. You put your life on the line every time you step in the ring and your opponent is cheating? You can die. Anything can happen in boxing.
"I hit him with some very hard body shots and he recovered from them, which I was surprised by. For him to come back that strong in the later rounds, that's what I was thinking about [when I heard about the failed test]. I thought he was an honest guy. I didn't expect that from him.
"He's still couldn't beat me even using something. I won the fight. Everybody thought I won the fight. It should not have been a draw in the first place. Hopefully it could be changed to a win."
The outcome of the bout, more than likely, will be changed to a no-decision. Bute's camp did not respond to a request from ESPN.com for comment on this situation.

In a matchup for the vacant Virginia State Cruiserweight championship, Virginia Beach's Earl "The Bull" Platt won a six-round majority decision over Front Royal's Terry "T-Brick" Roy. This was a roughhouse contest as Platt lived up to his nickname charging forward against the taller Roy. Platt was able to find a home for his straight right hand to the body throughout the contest, which may have been the difference in the bout. Roy, however, did land some straight jabs to Platt's face that opened a cut above Platt's nose. Judge Mark D'Atillo scored the bout a draw at 57-57 while judges Giovanni Lemm and Paul Wallace saw the bout for Platt, 58-56 and 59-55. Reeves Captures Maryland State Cruiserweight Title In Timonium!
(Photos by Kent Green)
Baltimore, MD cruiserweight Travis "Seveer" Reeves scored an eighth-round technical knockout over Frederick, MD's Larry "Hitman" Pryor to win the vacant Maryland State Cruiserweight title in the main event of the Shawstyle Promotions/Shabazz Brothers card at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium.
Reeves was very aggressive throughout the contest repeatedly pushing Pryor up against the ropes. Reeves, however, was smothering his punches in the early part of the contest. In the seventh round, Reeves received credit for a knockdown as he found his distance and landed a crushing overhead right to Pryor's face. The punch made Pryor stumble against the ropes. Referee Brent Bovell ruled a knockdown for Reeves as the ropes kept Pryor from hitting the canvas. Finally, Reeves landed a series of right hands that forced Pryor into a neutral corner. Pryor could not defend himself and Bovell stopped the contest at 42 seconds.
Reeves registered his ninth straight win and third straight knockout to raise his record to 12-2-2, six KO's. Pryor's record falls to 9-13, five KO's.
In an outstanding co-feature bout, Washington, DC flyweight Tyrieshia "Lady Tiga" Douglas won an eight-round unanimous decision over a very tough Anahi "Pantera" Torres of Mexico City, Mexico.
The bout was fought at extremely close quarters throughout as the two ladies traded jabs and body punches. Douglas's speed and accuracy proved to be the difference in the contest as she would land three punches to Torres's one on a regular basis. Despite the phone-booth style contest, there were very few head clashes. When one did take place in the seventh round, the two ladies stopped punching, Douglas wiped away any sweat away from Torres's forehead and the two ladies embraced in an incredible display of sportsmanship.
Douglas, the older sister of middleweight contender Antoine "Action" Douglas, won by scores of 80-72 (twice) and 78-74. Douglas is now 11-1, four KO's while Torres is now 13-14-1, two KO's.
Rookie Baltimore light heavyweight Stephon "The Surgeon" Morris scored a third-round TKO over the debuting Brian "Prime Time" Stevens of Jeffersonville, IN. Morris broke down Stevens throughout the contest, eventually landing a series of left and right hands to Stevens's head late in the third round, forcing referee Kenny Chevalier to stop the contest at 2:45. Morris, who sold $25,000 worth of tickets to the event, raises his record to 2-0, two KO's.
In an all-Baltimore welterweight matchup, James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson registered a fifth-round TKO over Kevin "The Scarecrow" Womack, Jr. when Womack suffered an injury to his right eye. Both men landed consistent punches throughout the awkward bout before an accidental thumb to the eye caused Womack's eye to blur. Ringside doctors observed the injury and deemed Womack unfit to continue. The bout was stopped at 2:36 of the fifth. Stevenson is now 23-2, 16 KO's while Womack falls to 7-11-3, five KO's.
In a minor upset, veteran Philadelphia, PA light heavyweight Taneal "Spider" Goyco won a six-round split decision over previously undefeated Devin Butcher of Baltimore. Butcher had an early offensive advantage as he landed solid shots with his right hand. But Goyco eventually wore down Butcher with constant pressure. Butcher lost a point in the sixth round for holding which may have been the difference on the judge's scorecards. Judges Brent Bovell and Don Risher scored the bout for Goyco 57-56 while judge Paul Wallace saw the bout for Butcher by the same score. With the win, Goyco evens his record at 8-8-1, three KO's while Butcher drops to 5-1, three KO's.
DC super welterweight Shynggyskhan Tazhibay won a four-round unanimous decision over the debuting Ahmet "The Turk" Kayrelti of Fairfax, VA. Tazhibay spent the bulk of the round chasing Kayrelti around the ring as Kayrelti used tremendous foot speed to try and avoid Tazhibay's onslaught. Tazhibay did land his share of solid punches to win the bout by shutout on two of the judge's scorecards, 40-36. One judge saw the bout 39-37 for Tazhibay, who remains undefeated at 4-0, two KO's.
Owings Mills, MD heavyweight Colby Madison won a four-round unanimous decision over Baltimore heavy Lonnie Kornegay. Madison, whose pro debut lasted 30 seconds, did a solid job fending off the constant pressure of the veteran Kornegay. Madison used good footwork to put himself in position to land punches to Kornegay's face. Madison also dealt well with a cut along his left eye caused by an accidental head butt from Kornegay. Madison won the bout 39-37 on all judge's scorecards. Madison is now 2-0 while Kornegay is 1-13-3.
Las Vegas, NV based super welterweight Cody "The Crippler" Crowley won a six-round unanimous decision over Corey McCants of Douglasville, GA. Crowley dominated the bout offensively against the durable McCants and won the bout by shutout (60-54) on all scorecards. Crowley remains undefeated at 8-0, five KO's while McCants falls to 2-15-2, one KO.
The opening contest saw Seat Pleasant, MD featherweight James "Too Slick" Early win a four-round unanimous decision over Tyshae Ferguson of Danville, VA. Early was indeed too slick for Ferguson as he was able to combine movement with solid shots against Ferguson to gain a shutout win (40-36) on all cards. Early is now 2-0 while Ferguson remains winless at 0-6.
After the card, we conducted one of the classiest interviews heard on this blog in quite some time as we spoke to both Travis Reeves and Larry Pryor after their cruiserweight title bout. Please listen:

Update On Maryland State Fairgrounds Card!
The main event remains the same -- a 10-round bout for the Maryland State Light Heavyweight title pitting Travis "Seveer" Reeves of Baltimore (11-2-2, five KO's) against Larry "Hitman" Pryor of Frederick (9-13, five KO's).
Another bout still on the card will be an eight-round female contest between DC flyweight Tyrieshia "Lady Tyga" Douglas (10-1, four KO's) and Anahi Torres of Tlalnepantla, México (13-13-1, two KO's)
Now, here are some bouts that have been added in the last two weeks:
In a six-round, all-Baltimore welterweight matchup, James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson will take on Kevin "The Scarecrow" Womack, Jr. Stevenson (22-2, 15 KO's) has lost two of his last three contests including an eight-round unanimous decision to Roberto Garcia in April of 2015 in Chicago, IL. Womack (7-10-3, five KO's) has lost five in a row to boxers with a combined won-loss record of 44-1-1. Womack lost his last bout by fourth-round TKO to Ed Brown on November 12 in Cockeysville, MD.
Undefeated Baltimore super middleweight Devin Butcher will compete in his first scheduled six-round contest when he battles Taneal Goyco of Philadelphia, PA. Butcher (5-0, three KO's) has knocked out his last three opponents including a fourth-round TKO of Darryl Watkins on December 12th in Baltimore. Goyco (7-8-1, three KO's) has not fought since winning a six-round unanimous decision over Dennis Hasson in November of 2014 in Valley Forge, PA. The last time Goyco was in Baltimore was in August of 2014 when he lost by fourth-round stoppage to Demond Nicholson at the Patapsco Arena. Goyco has also won in Baltimore as he knocked out Jeremy Trussell in the sixth round in April of 2014 in the same location.
Rockville, MD welterweight Shynggyskhan Tazhibay returns to action in a four-round bout against the debuting Ahmet "The Turk" Kayretli of Fairfax, VA by way of Turkey. Tazhibay, a native of Kazakhstan (3-0, two KO's), went the distance winning a four-round unanimous decision over Riarus Dudley on April 1 in DC. Kayretli makes a transition to boxing from mixed martial arts. Kayretli is 5-1 as an MMA fighter.
Rookie Baltimore super middleweight Stephon "The Surgeon" Morris will take on Derek Ntifo of Georgia in a four-round encounter. Morris (1-0, one KO) made his pro debut on December 12 and scored a second-round TKO over Cassanova Brooks at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore. Ntifo (0-2) last fought in February of last year and lost to Orlando Jewell by second-round TKO in Atlanta, Georgia.
In an all-Baltimore heavyweight contest scheduled for four rounds, rookie Colby Madison (1-0, one KO) will face veteran Lonnie Kornegay. Madison needed just 30 seconds to win his pro debut over Dominique Barnes on April 9 in Springfield, VA. Kornegay (1-12-3) will look to bounce back from a four-round unanimous decision loss to Mike Balogun on July 24 at the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore. Kornegay is the only boxer to date to take Balogun the distance. In fact, Kornegay has only been knocked out once in his 16-bout career. That knockout loss came in Kornegay's pro debut against Darnell Wilson in September of 2001 in Glen Burnie, MD. Kornegay lost by second-round TKO.
Seat Pleasant, MD featherweight James Early will make his Beltway debut on this card when he takes on Tyshae Ferguson of Danville, VA in a a four-round contest. Early (1-0) made his pro debut in Norfolk, VA on March 5 and won a four-round unanimous decision over Arthur Parker. Ferguson (0-5) lost his last bout by second-round TKO to DeVonte Allen on March 11 in Weirton, WVA.
Baltimore light heavyweight Marvin Farjah Johnson will make his pro debut against the equally-debuting Brian Stevens of Indiana in a four-round. Johnson is the son of legendary Baltimore-based trainer Marvin McDowell.
Also on the card will be undefeated Douro, Ontario, Canada middleweight Cody Crowley (7-0, four KO's) who will take on Corey McCants of Cincinnati, OH (2-14-2, one KO) in a six-round encounter. Crowley last fought on March 19 and won a six-round unanimous decision over Antonio Chaves Fernandez in Boston, MA. Crowley makes his second trip to Baltimore. In his last Charm City outing, Crowley scored a first-round knockout over Kevin Cooper on December 12. McCants has lost four in a row, going the distance each time.

One other note from the Regionals: Apparently someone walked off with the Golden Gloves Championship logo banner. They would like to have it returned. Here is a statement from the Washington Golden Gloves organization:
“At the Washington Golden Gloves Regional Championships on Saturday night, April 30, at Rosecroft Raceway, the Washington, DC Golden Gloves banner, which was hung just outside the room for the DC/Maryland boxers, was taken. If anyone knows of its whereabouts, it would be very much appreciated if it was returned to the main office at Rosecroft, no questions asked. This banner represents all of the Golden Gloves boxers from the DC/Maryland region and they and their families are proud to use it as the backdrop for photo opportunities at the championship finals. It means so much to so many, and it is hung so that everyone (boxers, coaches, parents, siblings and friends) might get use from it. Thank you in advance for doing the right thing!”

Jack, Bute Battle To Majority Draw in WBC Super Middleweight Clash; . DeGale Defends IBF Super Middleweight Title in DC!
The main event saw WBC champion Badou Jack "The Ripper" of Las Vegas, NV by way of Stockholm, Sweden battle former world champion Lucian Bute of Laval, Quebec, Canada by way of Romania to a 12-round majority draw.
Both men threw solid shots at each other, however it looked as if Bute got off to a better start early in the contest. By the midway point, however, Jack started to take control of the bout, stunning Bute with a straight left hand. Bute managed to land a sweeping overhand left in the sixth that kept him in the bout. As the bout headed towards the championship rounds, Jack seemed to put on the pressure as Bute tired. However, Jack did not do enough to earn the victory outright, according to the judges. Local judge Steve Rados saw the bout for Jack 117-111. Judges Omar Mintun, Sr. and Glen Crocker both saw the draw at 114-114. Jack remains WBC champion and is now 20-1-2, 12 KO's while Bute is 32-3-1, 25 KO's.
In the co-feature, IBF Super Middleweight titleholder James "Chunky" DeGale of Harlesdon, England successfully defended his crown with a tough 12-round unanimous decision over Rogelio "Porky" Medina of Hermosillo, Mexico.
DeGale used his long reach and quick hands to land shots from distance throughout the contest. However, the very game Medina was able to get inside and pound away at DeGale's midsection. The two traded shots back and forth in the middle rounds and both men landed flush uppercuts and hooks. By the end of the bout, DeGale seemed to slow down by staying on the ropes as Medina continued to put on the pressure. However, DeGale did enough early in the bout to get the win. Judge John Madfis scored the bout 115-113 while judges Tony Paolillo and Steve Gray saw the contest 117-111 for DeGale, who is now 23-1, 14 KO's while Medina falls to 36-7, 30 KO's. Beltway referee Malik Waleed was the third man in the ring.
The plan is for Jack and DeGale to meet later this year to unify the WBC and IBF titles.
In other undercard bouts not previously posted, Chris "Young King" Pearson of Dayton, OH won a 10-round unanimous decision over Joshua Okine of Silver Spring, MD. Pearson started off very well in the bout but tired late, giving Okine a little bit of a reprieve. All three judges (David Braslow, Wayne Smith and Paul Wallace) scored the bout 98-92. Pearson is now 17-1, 11 KO's while Okine falls to 22-6, 15 KO's.
Super lightweight Sharif "The Lion" Bogere of Las Vegas won a dominant 10-round unanimous decision over Samuel Amoako of Silver Spring. Bogere used solid hand and foot speed to keep Amoako at bay throughout the contest. Amoako seemed happy to survive the contest as all three judges scored a shutout for Bogere, 100-90. Bogere is now 28-1, 19 KO's and Amoako falls to 17-10, 14 KO's.
Undefeated Brooklyn, NY light heavyweight Carlos Gongora scored a second-round TKO over Zacharia Kelley of Lawton, OK. Gongora blasted away at Kelley from the opening bell and scored two knockdowns in the second round before referee Kenny Chevalier stopped the bout at 1:50. Gongora is now 6-0, four KO's while Kelley is 5-14, five KO's.
