DC lightweight Tiara Brown has advanced to the lightweight finals of the Cheo Aponte Tournament in Caguas City, Puerto Rico on Thursday.
Brown, who is originally from Fort Myers, FL, trains at the Headbangers gym in DC and lives in the DC area, scored a second-round TKO over Cristal Montalvo of Puerto Rico. Brown, the 2012 world champion in her weight class, will face 2011 Pan American Games champ Kiria Tapia of Puerto Rico in the championship contest.

Local Gym Profiled in Washington Examiner!

June DC Cards Taking Shape!
The back-to-back DC cards in June are starting to take shape. The Saturday, June 8 G Promotions card at the EchoStage Lounge (former DC Star or DC Tunnel) will have some interesting bouts and a number of local boxers making their pro debuts.
BATB has already told you about WBC Fecarbox Middleweight champion Tony "Mo Better" Jeter's bout against veteran Jimmy "The Dream" LeBlanc. Now comes word that there will be a women's bout on the card that will be very unique.
Lisa Garland of York, SC (10-6, five KO's) will take on Kerri Hill of Little Rock, AK (4-24-1, one KO) in a bout for two minor regional titles. What makes this so unique is that these two ladies have faced each other twice before, with Garland winning both bouts. However, both bouts went the 10-round distance. This bout is scheduled for 12 rounds with each round going three minutes in length instead of the usual two-minute rounds in women's boxing.
Baltimore featherweight prospect Gervonta "Rambo" Davis (2-0, two KO's) has been added to the card and he is looking for an opponent. Other boxers slated for the card are Terron "Kid" Grant (5-0, three KO's) of White Plains, MD as well as debuting boxers Jerrell Harris, Jordan Peters and Marcus Bates.
The Top Flight Promotions card on Saturday, June 15 at the Washington Convention Center has many of its matches already set. As we've mentioned, the head of Top Flight, DC lightweight Ty Barnett, will be in the main event taking on Norfolk, VA veteran Stephon Alexander in a 10-round contest.
There will be two six-round contests, one we've already announced. Undefeated Palmer Park, MD featherweight Kevin "K-Smoov" Rivers, Jr. will participate in his first six-round bout as he faces Rasool Shakoor of Jackson, MI.
The other six-rounder is another bout of youth vs. experience. Forestville, MD junior middleweight Alantez "SlyAza" Fox risks his undefeated record against Damon Antoine of Akron, OH. Fox (11-0-1, four KO's) is coming off a six-round unanimous decision over Keith Collins on April 25 in Tulsa, OK. Antoine (11-46-2, five KO's) was in a contest on May 18 at the UDC Sports Complex in DC against Charles Natal. However, the bout was declared a no-contest because of a power outage.

Amateur Boxing Comes To Laurel, MD June 1!
There will be an amateur boxing show coming to the Gardens Ice House located at 13800 Old Gunpowder Road in Laurel, MD on Saturday, June 1 beginning at 8 PM.
A number of local and regional junior and novice Golden Gloves champions are slated to participate on the card including 2012 Novice 132 pound champion Jefri Gutierrez, 2011 Novice 132 pound champ Andrew Barret, as well as 2013 Junior 115 pound titleholder Andres Garibay and Evgeny Metchenov who participated in the 2013 Golden Gloves.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets for children under 12 are $5. Call 410-419-4348 for details.

Eight Beltway amateurs will represent this region at the Junior Olympic Nationals in Mobile, AL in June.

Russell Cleared to Resume Training; Scheduled to Compete July 13 in Brooklyn!
Undefeated Capitol Heights, MD featherweight "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. has been medically cleared to resume full training after suffering a hairline fracture in his left hand after his last contest.
Russell (22-0, 13 KO's) hurt his hand in the 10-round unanimous decision win over Vyacheslav Gusev on March 2 in Las Vegas, NV. Russell knocked Gusev down in the third round and then fractured his hand in either the fourth or fifth round. Russell still earned a shutout (100-89) on all three judge's cards.
Russell says he has been doing more strength and conditioning training in recent weeks but says he has back to full strength now.
The 2008 US Olympian also kept busy by joining his father, Gary, Sr. in the corner of his brother Antonio who recently won a National Golden Gloves title in Salt Lake City, UT. Antonio also captured the Outstanding Boxer trophy during the tournament. As BATB previously reported, Antonio is the third member of his family to win a National Golden Gloves title.
Russell is now focused on his next outing, which is slated to be on Saturday, July 13 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. This will be the co-feature to the bout featuring Bernard Hopkins against Karo Murat. Russell does not have an opponent, but Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who is promoting the card, tells ESPN.com's Dan Rafael that he would like to match Russell against former WBO Featherweight champ Jhonny Gonzalez of Mexico. Gonzalez (54-8, 46 KO's) would bring a lot of experience to the bout as he has faced a who's who of current and former champions and contenders. Gonzalez's record includes victories over former world champions Mark Johnson, Fernando Montiel and Ratanachi Sor Vorapin. The 31-year-old Gonzalez has also competed against the likes of former champs Gerry Penalosa, Israel Vasquez and current contender Daniel Ponce De Leon.
The two men are ranked among the world's best. Russell is ranked number two by the WBO, three by the WBA and fifth by the WBC. Gonzalez is ranked ahead of Russell in the WBC at number two.

On Friday, June 7 at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY, DC super bantamweight Yieta Johnson will face undefeated John Franklin of Kansas City, MO in a four-round contest. Johnson (2-3, two KO's) has not fought since being knocked out in the first round by Raul Lopez in January of 2010 in New York City. Johnson has never gone the distance in any of his previous bouts. Both of his wins and all three of his losses have been by knockout.
Then on Saturday, June 8 at the Civic Center in Biloxi, MS, DC cruiserweight Richard McCombs makes his return to the ring and he will face debuting former amateur standout Javonte Charles of Memphis, TN. McCombs (1-3, one KO) has not fought since losing by first round TKO to Mario Flores in November of 2010 at DC Star (now known as EchoStage) in DC. McCombs is a relative of former WBC Welterweight champion Maurice Blocker.

Kennedy Gets Second Chance at Yorgey June 15 in Valley Forge, PA!
Windsor Mill, MD middleweight "Relentless" Julius Kennedy gets a rematch against Harry Joe Yorgey of Bridgeport, PA on Saturday, June 15 at the Valley Forge Casino and Resort in Valley Forge, PA.
On March 15 at the Valley Forge Convention Center, Yorgey won a six-round split decision over Kennedy that was controversial to say the least. Kennedy won on one judge's scorecard 58-56. Another judge saw the bout 58-56 to Yorgey. However, the third judge saw the bout 60-54 for Yorgey. That judge, reportedly, will not judge another bout in Pennsylvania according to sources. The rematch is scheduled for 10 rounds.

Barnett Participates In 10-Round Contest June 15 at Washington Convention Center!

Barnett (20-3-1, 13 KO's) will try to bounce back from his ninth round TKO loss to Mercito Gesta on August 3 in Las Vegas. Barnett will face Stephon Alexander of Norfolk, VA (6-5-1, six KO's) in a scheduled 10-round bout. Alexander has won two straight by first-round knockout.

Crews Brings Silver Home From Venezuela; Prepares For Unique Fundraising Adventure in June!
Baltimore, MD middleweight Franchon Crews won a silver medal at the Women's Continental Championships in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela on Sunday. Crews lost a 15-7 decision to Yeneiber Guillen of the Dominican Republic in the 165 Pound title bout.
When Crews comes back home, she will get ready for a very interesting fundraiser. Crews has joined forces with the National Kidney Foundation. This is a campaign that hits home for her because Crews's mother, Sarah, has been battling stage four renal failure due to chronic kidney disease since 2005.
Crews will be participating in the National Kidney Foundation's fourth annual Rappel For Kidney Health which will be held on Saturday, June 8 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel.
During the event, Crews will rappel 28 stories down the side of the hotel! This is to raise funds to cure this disease. Here's how you can help:

Jeter To Face LeBlanc June 8 in DC!
After having his own bout cancelled on his card in May, WBC Fecarbox Middleweight champion Tony "Mo Better" Jeter will return to action on Saturday, June 8 at EchoStage Lounge (formerly DC Tunnel or DC Star).
Jeter (15-3-1, 10 KO's) is slated to take on veteran Jimmy "The Dream" LeBlanc of Weymouth, MA in the main event of a card promoted by G Promotions of Mechanicsville, MD. LeBlanc (13-24-4, five KO's) has fought numerous Beltway Boxers including Jimmy Lange and Alantez Fox and holds victories over Josh Rupard and Luther Smith.

For the fourth consecutive year, we can update the list of Beltway Boxers who have captured National Golden Gloves Championships.
This list includes two boxers who are in the International Boxing Hall of Fame (Leonard and Mark Johnson), four future pro world champions (Leonard, M. Johnson, DeMarcus Corley and Lamont Peterson) and three Olympians (Leonard, Heidi Curtis and Gary Russell, Jr.)

Harrison Leads Local Domination in DC!
Now let's come back home to DC where locals put on dominating performances in front of a packed house at the All-In-Entertainment "Champion Class" card at the University of the District of Columbia Sports Complex in Washington, DC.
In the main event, Dusty Hernandez Harrison put together his most dominating and complete performance of his young career scoring a fifth-round TKO over Eddie Soto of Pawtucket, RI. Harrison unleashed a blistering left jab that continuously kept Soto at bay. Harrison landed a brutal right hand to drop Soto in the second round. Later, Harrison used another right to put his most experienced foe away for the night in the fifth round where the bout was stopped at 2:48. Harrison is now 15-0, nine KO's. Soto falls to 12-7, four KO's.
The co-feature saw "The King's Son" Jerry Odom of Bowie, MD score a first-round TKO over Andrew Morias of Monroe, MI. Odom hit Morias with a brutal body shot and then pressured Morias until referee Dave Braslow stopped the action at 1:06 of the round. Odom still has yet to go past the first round and he is now 4-0, four KO's, one NC. Morias is 1-2.
In what was definitely a Beltway Boxing Knockout Of The Year candidate, Alexandria, VA light heavyweight Patrick Coye made his pro debut an explosive one with a brutal right hand that sent the equally debuting Charles Parker of Wilson, NC crashing to the canvas. Referee Sharon Sands got Coye to go to a neutral corner and then immediately stopped the bout at 1:36 of the round. Parker stayed on the canvas for a few moments after but got up under his own power.
The return of Upper Marlboro, MD heavyweight "Big" Phill Brown was not a good one as "The Samoan Truth" Natu Visinia of Lakewood, CA was very powerful as he rocked Brown in the first round with brutal head shots. Brown never went down but was hurt enough for the bout to be stopped at 2:49 of the first. Brown, who was competing for the first time since 2007, is now 6-2, three KO's. Visinia remains undefeated at 9-0, eight KO's.
In the curtain-raising bout, Palmer Park, MD featherweight Kevin "K-Smoov" Rivers, Jr. remained undefeated with a workmanlike four-round unanimous decision over veteran Jason "J-Rock" Rorie of Winston-Salem, NC. Rivers stayed very patient against the awkward Rorie and scored a shutout (40-36) on all three judge's cards. Rivers is now 7-0, five KO's while Rorie is now 6-17, three KO's.
Two scheduled bouts did not take place. As we mentioned earlier, Mike Reed's contest against Damon Antoine was scrapped because Antoine refused the bout. Antoine was even offered extra money to take the contest but still turned the bout down.
Antoine, of Akron, OH ended up taking an all-Ohio bout with Charles Natal of Cleveland. However, karma may have set in as the walkout bout was stopped by a power outage in the arena. The bout was declared a no-contest.
Also, Greg Newby's contest was scrapped at the very last minute as a problem came up with the medicals of his opponent William Prieto.
The card was promoted by All-In-Entertainment. The matchmaker was Michael Walters.

Saturday Out-of-Town Beltway Recap: Russell, Roach, Moore Win National Golden Gloves Titles; L. Peterson Falls in AC while A. Peterson and Williams Win ; Crews Heads Into Finals in Venezuela!
As we said, Saturday, May 18 was a HUGE day for Beltway Boxing with so much going on! In the first of a two-part recap, we will give you the "out-of-town scoreboard" followed by the recap of the card that took place at UDC.

The Beltway has two more National Golden Gloves champions! Congratulations to Gary Antonio Russell (left) and Lamont Roach, Jr. who captured titles with decision wins in Salt Lake City, UT.
Russell won the 123-pound title over Ja'Rico O'Quinn of Detroit. Russell is now the third member of the Russell Family to win a national Golden Gloves title.
However, Antonio did something that neither Gary, Jr. (2005) or Allen (2010) did: He was named the "Golden Boy" of the tourney -- the Outstanding Boxer. This is the second consecutive year a Beltway Boxer has captured that award following Jerry Odom in 2012.
Roach captured the 132-pound championship with a victory over Maliek Montgomery of Knoxville. Roach is just 17 years old and has had an outstanding year adding this title to his USA Boxing National crown he won earlier this year. Russell also won the title at the USA Nationals.
The DC Region has won eight national Golden Gloves titles in the last four years. In what has become an annual ritual, we will update the Beltway list later today.
The Beltway can also lay partial claim to a third Golden Gloves title as Marquis Moore won the 165-pound championship. Although Moore is originally from Fort Washington, MD, he represented the Colorado-New Mexico Region because he is in the Army out of Fort Carson, CO.
Let's move to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, where the only bump in a dominating night for the Beltway took place in the most important bout of the night. IBF Junior Welterweight champion Lamont Peterson was dominated by WBC Interim titleholder Lucas Matthysse and was stopped in the third round. Peterson was dropped once in the second and twice in the third before the bout was stopped at 2:14. Peterson is now 31-2-1, 16 KO's while Matthysse's record rises to 34-2, 32 KO's.
The bout was a non-title affair so neither man loses his title. Originally, BATB thought that Peterson's loss would scuttle plans for a Sept.7 card at Verizon Center in DC. However, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said during the post-fight press conference that's where he wants to stage the bout between Matthysse and WBC actual champ Danny Garcia. Peterson would, more than likely, defend his title on that card.

Rivers Wins Unanimous Decision!
Kevin "K-Smoov" Rivers, Jr. has won a four-round unanimous decision over Jason Rorie. All three judges scored the bout 40-36. Rivers is now 7-0, five KO's. Rosie is 6-17, three KO's.
We have just received word that Greg Newby's bout against William Prieto has been scratched. Prieto had medical issues.

Crews Wins Opener at Women's Continental Championships in Venezuela!
Baltimore, MD 165-pounder Franchon Crews won her opening bout at the 2013 Women's Continental Championships in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela on Thursday.
Crews defeated Bastieri Danieli of Brazil 18-10 in the quarterfinals. Crews will face Venezuelan Francelis Carmona in the semis on Saturday.

Peterson Weighs 136 1/2; Williams 175 in Atlantic City!
Anthony Peterson and his opponent Dominic Salcido tipped the scales at 136 1/2 for their encounter at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Thomas Williams and his foe, Otis Griffin, both weighed in at 175 pounds.
Both bouts are slated to be shown during the Showtime Extreme channel's telecast beginning at 7 PM ET.

The Reed-Antoine bout may not happen although both men weighed in as if they would fight each other. Reportedly, Antoine's camp did not agree to the contest. As of now, however, the bout is on.

Services Announced For Vardell McCann!
The services for longtime Beltway trainer Vardell McCann have been announced. Mr. McCann's homegoing service will take place on Monday, May 20 at Maple Springs Baptist Church located at 4131 Belt Road in Capitol Heights, MD. The viewing will be from 9 AM to 11 AM with the service immediately following.

Ward Battles To Majority Draw in New York!
DC cruiserweight Andre Ward fought to a four-round majority draw against the debuting Jay Rodriguez of New York Wednesday night at BB King's Bar and Grill in New York City.
Ward got the nod on one card 39-37 but two other judges saw the draw at 38-38. This is the third draw of Ward's career and his record now stands at 1-1-3.

The weigh-in for the All-In-Entertainment "Champion Class" card will be held on Friday, May 17 at the University of the District of Columbia Auditorium next to the Sports Complex. The weigh-in begins at 6 PM and will be free and open to the public. We hope to get the complete lineup of the card tomorrow.
If you are traveling to UDC on Saturday via Metro, be advised that there are a couple of work zones on the Red Line including from Dupont Circle to the Van Ness station (where the UDC Sports Complex is) and between Rhode Island Avenue and Takoma stations. Trains will be single-tracking through those work zones, so give yourselves extra time to get through those stations. Metro says there will be trains coming every 24 minutes between Glenmont and Shady Grove.

Roach, Jr. Advances in National Golden Gloves!
Lamont Roach, Jr. has advanced to the second round of the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in Salt Lake City, UT. Roach defeated Rodrigo Rubio of Iowa by decision in the 132-pound class.
In the 178-Pound Division, Joe Jones III lost in the first round by decision to John Phillips of Hawaii.

Andre Ward Weighs 199 For New York Battle at BB King's!
DC cruiserweight Andre Ward weighed in at 199 pounds for his four-round contest against the debuting Jay Rodriguez of New York City tonight at BB King's Bar and Grill in New York City. Rodriguez tipped the scales at 195.
Ward (1-1-2) hasn't fought since his four-round draw with Mario Flores on October 27 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

Anthony Peterson Returns May 18 in Atlantic City!
For the first time since December of 2011, there will be two Peterson Brothers competing on the same card. Lightweight Anthony Peterson will join his older brother, Lamont on the Saturday, May 18 card at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.
Anthony Peterson (31-1, 20 KO's) has not fought since December 10, 2011 when he won a 10-round unanimous decision over fellow Beltway Boxer Daniel Attah at the Washington Convention Center, the same card Lamont Peterson won the IBF/WBA 140-Pound championship from Amir Khan.
Anthony Peterson's opponent will be Dominic Salcido of Rialto, CA in this 10-round contest. Salcido (18-4, nine KO's) has lost three of his last four but has gone the 10-round distance in his last two bouts. Salcido is moving up in weight from super featherweight for this contest. Thomas Williams, Jr. to Face Former 'Next Great Champ' Griffin in First 10-Round Bout on Peterson-Matthysse Undercard in Atlantic City!
Undefeated Fort Washington, MD light heavyweight Thomas "Top Dog" Williams, Jr. takes a nice step up in opponent name recognition on Saturday, May 18 when he battles Otis "Triple O.G." White Brings Silver Home From Ukraine!
Waldorf, MD's Jordan White has won a silver medal at the Victory Cup Tournament in Uman, Ukraine. White lost his championship bout in the 101-pound division to Jevgenij Osvajannkov of the Ukraine. The United States team won three gold, two silver and five bronze medals during the tournament.

Emmanuel Taylor to Battle For NABF 140-Pound Title and Number One Ranking July 19 in New York!
BATB has learned that Edgewood, MD junior welterweight Emmanuel "Tranzformer" Taylor has signed for a bout on Friday, July 19 that will be for the NABF 140-pound title and the top ranking in the WBC. The bout will be shown on ESPN2 and will be held at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, NY.
Taylor (17-1, 12 KO's) has had an incredible 2013 thus far scoring knockout victories on national television in his last two outings. On January 25, Taylor stopped Raymond Serrano in the sixth round at the Paramount on a Showtime ShoBox telecast. Taylor then got up off the canvas to knock out Victor Cayo in the eighth round on March 8 in Atlantic City, NJ on an ESPN2 card. Taylor is currently ranked sixth by the IBF and 12th by the WBC.

We now have details on the two victories notched by Beltway Boxers this past Friday at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK.
Burke, VA middleweight Antoine "Action" Douglas scored a first-round knockout over Coy Witt of Richlands, VA. The bout was stopped at 1:36. Douglas is now 7-0, five KO's. Witt is 2-4, one KO.
Baltimore, MD junior middleweight Cecil McCalla also remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Abel Perry of Colorado Springs, CO. McCalla raises his record to 16-0, six KO's while Perry falls to 18-7, nine KO's.

Jordan White Advances to Victory Cup Finals In The Ukraine!
Waldorf, MD 101-pounder Jordan White has advanced to the finals of the Victory Cup Tournament in Uman, Ukraine this weekend. So far, White has scored victories over two Ukrainian opponents. On Saturday, White won a 3-0 decision over Vladislav Zarachnij.
Given the time difference, it is possible White has already competed in the finals today. As soon as we get the result, we will pass it along.
White's performance follows on the heels of Alexandria, VA female lightweight Iesha Kinney who won a unanimous decision over Elizabeth Dillion of England last week in Tampere, Finland.

Phil Jackson Benson Captures WBC Fecarbox Super Middleweight Title With Seventh-Round TKO!

Landover, MD super middleweight "The Real Deal" Phil Jackson Benson captured the vacant WBC Fecarbox Super Middleweight title with a seventh-round TKO over a very game Maxell "The General" Taylor of Baltimore in front of a raucous packed house at Club One Fitness in Millersville, MD. The card was promoted by Jeter Promotions.
Jackson Benson used devastating body shots to gain the advantage in the contest. From the opening round, Jackson Benson used the body work to set up his head shots and get Taylor against the ropes. Taylor would gamely fight back but the punches took their toll. Benson would have a big fifth round that almost got the fight stopped. However, Taylor bounced back to have a good sixth round.
But in the seventh, Benson amped up the pressure and forced referee Kenny Chevalier to stop the contest at 1:15 of the round. Benson is now 12-1, 11 KO's and has stopped his last seven opponents. Taylor falls to 18-5-1, eight KO's.
The co-feature bout between heavyweights "The Big Ticket" Dwayne McRae of Columbia, MD and Norfolk, VA's Dennis Benson was ruled a double disqualification after the two boxers had an altercation before the bell rang.
Benson was already in the ring when McRae, who was fighting for the first time since September of 2011, entered and did his ring walk near Benson's corner. The two exchanged words and tangled. Referee Bill Clancy and Maryland State Athletic Commission members separated the two and sent them back to their corners. Clancy warned both men that any more infractions would result in a disqualification.
Round one lasted approximately 20 seconds before the two men clinched and wouldn't let go. Clancy had to physically separate the two boxers before waiving the bout.off. No word yet on any penalties for the two men after the altercation.
In the opening pro bout, Ferndale, MD heavyweight "Slick" Nick Kisner won a four-round unanimous decision over Willie "Blackout" Chisolm of Clearwater, FL. Kisner used great lateral movement and solid combinations to frustrate Chisolm and win by shutout (40-36) on all three scorecards. Kisner remains undefeated at 12-0-1, five KO's while Chisolm falls to 7-15, four KO's.

Noted Trainer Vardell McCann Passes!
Sad news to report. Longtime Beltway trainer Vardell McCann passed away earlier this week reportedly of a heart attack.
McCann was a part of the Beltway Boxing scene for more than 50 years, first as a boxer, then as a trainer, primarily at the Hillcrest Boxing Gym. Also, McCann worked with the celebrated "Hard Corps" group of Derrell Coley, Reggie Green, Gerry Payne and Reuben Bell.
McCann was very well respected throughout the community. As recently as this past February, McCann was among many legendary local figures honored by the Potomac Valley Association of USA Boxing for his service. Vardell McCann was a truly wonderful person who was a pleasure to know. He will truly be missed!

Jeter Title Bout Scrapped; Rest of May 11 Card Intact!
BATB has learned that the WBC Fecarbox Middleweight title bout between champion Tony Jeter and Victor Hugo Correa slated for Saturday, May 11 at Club One Fitness in Millersville, MD has been called off. However, the rest of the Jeter Promotions card -- including another WBC Fecarbox title bout -- will still take place.
Jeter Promotions learned late Thursday that something was wrong when Correa didn't arrive to be picked up at a local airport. Subsequently, Correa sent an email saying he was not coming due to an illness. This was after all the necessary documentation -- including medical forms -- had already been received. After some last-minute tries to find a replacement, the bout had to be called off.
Where some promoters may have cancelled the card outright, Jeter Promotions told BATB that it would not be right to the other boxers on the card to cancel, so the card will go on as scheduled with the bout between Phil Jackson Benson and Maxell Taylor for the vacant WBC Fecarbox Super Middleweight title as the new main event.

Douglas, McCalla Hit Scales in Oklahoma!
Two undefeated Beltway Boxers are on a card at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK on Friday night, May 10. Middleweight Antoine "Action" Douglas of Burke, VA will take on Coy Witt of Richlands, VA in a six-round matchup. Douglas (6-0, four KO's) is coming off a second-round knockout of Juan Zapata on April 12 in Whitehall, NY. Witt (2-3, one KO) will be trying to break a three-bout losing streak.
Also on the card, Randallstown, MD junior middleweight Cecil McCalla returns to action after a more than 10-month absence as he faces Abel "Truth Serum" Perry of Colorado Springs, CO in another six-round bout. Harrison Gets Opponent for May 18 in DC!
Undefeated DC welterweight Dusty Harrison has an opponent for his eight-round main event contest on the All-in-Entertainment "Champion Class" card on Saturday, May 18 at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) Sports Complex in Washington, DC. Harrison will face Eddie Soto of Pawtucket, RI by way of Puerto Rico.
Harrison (14-0, eight KO's) is coming off a six-round unanimous decision over Jonathan Garcia on April 12 in Dover, DE. Soto (12-6, four KO's) got off to a great start in his pro career winning his first 12 bouts. However, Soto has had difficulty as he has stepped up in competition losing his last six. Soto has faced the likes of Edgar Santana, Danny O'Connor, Jose A. Gonzalez and Mike Faragon in his last six bouts.
The co-feature bout that was originally announced for this card is still intact -- the return of Upper Marlboro, MD heavyweight "Big" Phill Brown (6-1, three KO's) taking on undefeated Nati Visinia of San Diego, CA (8-0, seven KO's) in a six-round bout.
Also on the card, Waldorf, MD welterweight Mike "Yes, Indeed" Reed returns to action in a four-round contest against the debuting Christian Daniel of Wilson, NC. Reed (2-0, two KO's) has had both of his bouts end in the first round.
Bowie, MD super middleweight "The King's Son" Jerry Odom will be on the card as he takes on Drew Morias of Monroe, MI in a four-round encounter. Odom (3-0, three KO's, one NC) also has yet to fight after the first round. Morias (1-1) won a four-round unanimous decision over Desmond Jackson on April 27 in Toledo, OH.
Alexandria, VA welterweight "The Baby-Faced Assassin" Yurii Polishchuk will also be on the card as he will face Charles Natal of Cleveland, OH in another four-rounder. Polishchuk (1-0, one KO) registered a first-round knockout over Demetrius Winbush in his pro debut on April 20 at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD. Natal (1-0-1) had a four-round draw with Brett Simmons on November 24 in Lorain, OH.
Fairfax, VA junior welterweight Joseph Rector (1-1, one KO) will try to bounce back from his first-round TKO loss to David Warren Huffman on October 27 in Fairfax when he faces Philadelphia, PA's Blair Cobbs who will be making his pro debut.
Also on the card, Alexandria, VA light heavyweight Patrick Coye will make his pro debut against the equally debuting Charles Parker of Wilson, NC. There are also bouts scheduled for Palmer Park, MD featherweight Kevin "K-Smoov" Rivers, Jr. (6-0, five KO's) and DC light heavyweight Greg Newby (7-0, four KO's). Both bouts are slated for six rounds, a first for Rivers.
Another out-of-town boxer -- "The Real Coolie Bully" Elton Dharry of San Diego, CA by way of Guyana (13-5-1, seven KO's) -- is also slated to be on the card.

An interesting internet scenario will be taking place over the next two weeks in the Beltway region as GoFightLive will have live pay-per-view internet streaming of both cards that will take place in the area in the coming weeks.
First, GFL will be in Millersville, MD for the Jeter Promotions "Double Trouble" card at Club One Fitness on Saturday, May, 11. That means TWO regional title bouts shown live on the internet -- Tony "Mo Better" Jeter defends his WBC Fecarbox Middleweight championship against Victor Hugo Correa and the all-Beltway matchup between Phil Jackson Benson and Maxell "The General" Taylor for the vacant WBC Fecarbox Super Middleweight title plus bouts including "Slick" Nick Kisner and "The Big Ticket" Dwayne McRae along with five scheduled amateur bouts.
In the interest of full disclosure, yours truly along with "The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears will be handling the announcing duties for the broadcast. Also, Jeter will be one of the guests on the premiere of GFL's GoFightLive Radio on Thursday, May 9 at 7 PM ET.
One week later on Saturday, May 18, GFL comes down the road to the Nation's Capitol for the All-In-Entertainment "Champion Class" card at the UDC Sports Complex in DC. This card features Dusty Harrison in the main event along with a number of young Beltway locals.
One bit of clarification -- the EPIX channel is sponsoring the card but will NOT be televising it.

The Saturday, May 11 co-feature bout for the vacant WBC Fecarbox Super Middleweight championship looks to be a solid contest between Landover, MD's Phil Jackson Benson and Maxell "The General" Taylor of Baltimore, MD. Legendary Beltway Trainer Dave Jacobs Turns 80!

We don't celebrate many birthdays here but this one truly deserves a celebration. Happy 80th birthday to legendary trainer Dave Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs has worked with many local boxers over many years including Sugar Ray Leonard and Andrew Maynard just to name a short few.
One of the nicest men in this business deserves a strong celebration!
