Williams, Jr. Suffers Fourth-Round Knockout In WBC Title Clash Against Stevenson!

Laurel, MD light heavyweight Thomas "Top Dog" Williams, Jr. was outgunned in his bid for the WBC Light Heavyweight championship tonight as Adonis "Superman" Stevenson of Quebec, Canada scored a fourth-round knockout at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City.  The bout was shown on Spike TV.

Stevenson dropped Williams with an overhand left in the first round.  However, Williams showed a lot of heart and landed hard shots in the second and third round.  Stevenson did wobble a little bit but did not go down.

In the fourth round, Stevenson landed a crushing left uppercut that dropped Williams face first to the canvas.  Referee Michael Griffin reached the count of 10 and the bout ended at 2:54.

Williams drops to 20-2, 14 KO's. Stevenson made the eighth successful defense of his title and raised his record to 28-1, 23 KO's.

Nicholson, Aleem Battle To Eight-Round Draw In Quebec City!

Beltway Boxers Demond "D Best At It" Nicholson (left) of Laurel, MD and Immanuwel Aleem of Richmond, VA fought to an eight-round majority decision draw tonight at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada.  This picture was taken after their contest this evening.

The bout was shown on a delayed basis on the Spike TV telecast.  Aleem seemed to be the quicker of the two boxers with his hands and feet while Nicholson seemed to land only one punch at a time.  There was a slight controversy in the seventh round when Aleem landed a punch that seemed to drop Nicholson.  However, referee Steve St-Germain ruled a slip.

Aleem got the decision on one judge's scorecard, 77-75 but the other two judges scored the bout even at 76-76.

Nicholson's record is now 17-1-1, 16 KO's while Aleem remains undefeated at 16-0-1, nine KO's.

Hernandez Harrison Scheduled To Face LaManna For USBA Welterweight Title September 16 In Atlantic City!

BATB is hearing reports that undefeated Washington, DC welterweight Dusty Hernandez Harrison will battle with Thomas "Cornflake" LaManna of Millville, NJ in a contest for the vacant USBA Welterweight title.  The bout is scheduled to be held on Friday, September 16 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ.

The bout has not been officially announced, however, both boxers are claiming it is a done deal.  Hernandez Harrison (29-0-1, 16 KO's) is ranked number one in the most recent USBA rankings despite battling to a 10-round split decision draw against Mike Dallas on May 13 at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.  LaManna (21-1, nine KO's) made a recent drop to the welterweight rankings and is listed fourth by the USBA.  LaManna last fought on July 22 and scored a first-round TKO over Engleberto Valenzuela at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

This will be LaManna's third time facing a Beltway Boxer.  In March of 2013, LaManna won a six-round unanimous decision over Joshua Snyder in Atlantic City. Then in March of 2015, LaManna was stopped in the sixth-round by Antoine Douglas on a nationally-televised (ShoBox on Showtime) card in Westbury, NY.  Both those fights took place in the middleweight division.

Another local boxer is ranked in the USBA Welterweight rankings -- Gerome Quigley of Gaithersburg, MD (15-0, 14 KO's) is listed ninth.

Odom Scores Crushing Third-Round TKO At Foxwoods!

Big win tonight for Bowie, MD super middleweight "The King's Son" Jerry Odom.  Taking the nationally-televised ShoBox on Showtime bout on one week's notice and coming off a battle with strep throat, Odom scored a vicious third-round TKO over Julius "The Chef" Jackson of the Virgin Islands at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT.

Jackson, son of the legendary former world champion Julian "The Hawk" Jackson, controlled the action for the first two rounds as he pressured Odom and landed solid inside punches.

However, Odom turned the bout around for good in the third round with one punch, a crushing right hand that landed on the bridge of Jackson's nose and dropped him to the canvas.  Jackson barely beat referee Arthur Mercante, Jr's count but was deemed unfit to continue.  The bout was stopped at 1:57.

With the win, Odom breaks a two-bout winless streak and is now 14-2-1, 13 KO's.  Jackson suffers his second straight knockout loss and falls to 19-2, 15 KO's.

Fox Scores Sixth-Round TKO At Foxwoods!

Alantez "SlyAza" Fox remained undefeated Thursday night with a sixth-round TKO over Paul Valenzuela, Jr. of Mexico at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT.

Here is how Fightnews.com's Jason Marchetti saw the contest:

The fight opened with Valenzuela scoring on the inside with body shots followed by overhand right hands. In the 2nd, Fox landed a flush straight right hand to the temple and wobbled Valenzuela on the ropes. As the fight progressed, Fox used his jab to keep Valenzuela away and the tiring opponent took more and more punishment as cuts opened on both sides of his face. Fox scored heavy with his left hook in the 5th and Valenzuela could not answer the bell at the end of the 6th round. Fox was likely way up on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage by the ringside doctor.

Fox raised his record to 20-0-1, nine KO's while Valenzuela falls to 17-4, 11 KO's.

Kisner Wins UD, Kayretli Draws In Erie; Amoako Drops UD In Birmingham!

Three Beltway Boxers were in action Saturday night with mixed results.

Baltimore, MD's "Slick" Nick Kisner bounced back from his unanimous decision loss earlier this year to score a four-round unanimous decision victory over Steven Tyner of Akron, OH in a heavyweight bout held at the Roar At The Shore biker rally in Erie, PA.

Kisner won by shutout (40-36) in the heavyweight encounter to raise his record to 17-3-1, six KO's.  Tyner falls to 3-14-3, two KO's.

Also on the card, Fairfax, VA welterweight Ahmet "The Turk" Kayretli battled to a four-round majority decision draw with Joshua Jones of Philadelphia, PA.  Here's how Kurt Wolfheimer of Fightnews.com described the bout:

Jones opened the fight boxing well from the outside. However, Kayretli made a game of it in the second with wild charges and combinations. Jones turned the tables again in the third as he kept Kayretli off balance with well-timed counters. The fight was on the line in the fourth and final round. Jones seemed to do just enough while timing the rushes with counters, but Kayretli was the aggressor as the fight ended. One judge saw the fight 39-37 for Jones but was overruled as the other two officials saw the fight 38-38 even for the majority draw.

Kayretli, a native of Turkey, is now 0-1-1 in his young pro boxing career as he continues to make a transition from Mixed Martial Arts.  Jones is now 2-0-1, two KO's.

At the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, AL, lightweight Samuel "Bruno" Amoako of Silver Spring, MD lost a six-round unanimous decision to Ryan "Blue Chip" Martin of Cleveland, OH.  Amoako seemed to be his usual durable self but had very little offense for Martin who was landing shots at will, according to Tracy Morin of Fightnews.  Amoako, who has lost eight in a row, is now 21-12, 15 KO's.  Martin remains undefeated at 15-0, nine KO's.

Odom To Face Jackson In Eight-Round ShoBox Co-Feature July 22 At Foxwoods!

Bowie, MD super middleweight "The King's Son" Jerry Odom returns to action in an important, nationally-televised eight-round contest against Julius "The Chef" Jackson of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on Friday, July 22 at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT.  The bout will be a co-feature bout on ShoBox on Showtime as the program celebrates its 15th anniversary.

Odom (13-2-1, 12 KO's) is coming off an eight-round majority draw with Ronald Ellis on February 19 in Atlantic City, NJ.  Ironically, Odom is replacing Ellis in this bout. Ellis suffered a hand injury in training and could not compete.  This will be Odom's fifth straight appearance on ShoBox -- he is 2-1-1 in his previous ShoBox opportunities.  Odom also had a tough seventh-round knockout victory on ESPN2 in July of 2014.

Jackson (19-1, 15 KO's) will try to bounce back from suffering his first loss where he was stopped in the second round by Jose Uzcategui on October 6 in San Antonio, TX. . Jackson is the son of former world champion Julian "The Hawk" Jackson and the older brother of John "Dah Rock" Jackson, who just lost a world title shot to Jermell Charlo in May.

Kisner, Amoako Hit Scales For Saturday Bouts In Pennsylvania And Alabama!

Two more Beltway Boxers will return to action in bouts that will take place on Saturday, July 16.

Baltimore, MD cruiserweight "Slick" Nick Kisner returns to action in a six-round contest against Steven Tyner of Akron, OH at the Roar At The Shore in Erie, PA.  Kisner (16-3-1, six KO's) looks to bounce back from his eight-round split decision loss to Lamont Capers on May 27 in Atlantic City, NJ.  Tyner (3-13-3, two KO's) comes off a four-round split decision draw with Alexander Dedovets on June 11 at the Presque Isle Downs Casino in Erie.

Kisner weighed 216 pounds while Tyner tipped the scales at 210.

Meanwhile at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, AL, Silver Spring, MD-based junior welterweight Samuel "Bruno" Amoako will be in an eight-round bout against undefeated Ryan "Blue Chip" Martin of Cleveland, OH.  Amoako (21-11, 15 KO's) last fought on May 13 and lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Abner Cotto at the DC Armory.  Amoako, a native of Accra, Ghana, has lost seven in a row, his last six by unanimous decision.  Martin (14-0, nine KO's) has scored three straight knockouts including a fifth-round KO of Rosbel Montoya on April 23 in Inglewood, CA.

Both men weighed in at 138 pounds.  This contest is on the non-televised undercard of the title bout between WBC World Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and challenger Chris Arreola.

Beltway Boxers Head To Norfolk July 16!

Three Beltway Boxers will be a part of a Ponytail Promotions/Sho Nuff Promotions card at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, VA on Saturday, July 16.

Columbia, MD light heavyweight Kwame Ritter returns to action in a four-round contest against the debuting Nathaniel Edge of Snow Hill, NC.  Ritter (2-0, one KO) has not fought since winning a four-round unanimous decision over Santos Martinez in March of 2015 in Woodlawn, MD.

Featherweight James "Too Slick" Early of Seat Pleasant, MD continues his busy 2016 with his third bout in five months.  Early (2-0) will battle with Marquis Pierce of Newark, NJ (1-9) in a four-rounder.   Early won a four-round unanimous decision against Tyshae Ferguson on May 14 in Timonium, MD.  Pierce won his pro debut in June of 2013 but has lost nine in a row since then.  That streak includes a four-round unanimous decision loss to Alex Barbosa on May 14 in Philadelphia, PA.

The card will also mark the pro debut of Baltimore, MD super featherweight Mack Allison IV.  The son of noted Baltimore trainer Mack Allison III had a solid amateur career, winning a Junior Golden Gloves title and faced the likes of James Early and Keeshawn Williams in the Open Division of the Washington Golden Gloves.  Allison IV will take on Brian Raglin of Indianapolis, IN (0-13) in a four-round bout.  Raglin has been stopped in every bout he has been in, including first-round stoppage losses to Beltway Boxers Cobia Breedy and Drayvontay Speed Rawls.

Three popular Tidewater-area boxers will participate in the featured contests on the card.  Frankie "The Freight Train" Filippone of Norfolk (20-5-1, seven KO's) will battle Dennis Sharpe of Bayonne, NJ (17-20-4, four KO's) in a 10-round super middleweight contest.  Lightweight "Dangerous" Dorin Spivey of Portsmouth, VA (45-7, 33 KO's) will face off with Stephon McIntyre of Jonesboro, GA (2-22-2) in an eight-round encounter.  Also, heavyweight Jerry "Slug" Forrest of Newport News, VA (12-2, 11 KO's) will take on Lamont "Too Smooth" Capers of Hawley, PA (6-8-2) in a six-round bout. Capers is coming off an upset eight-round split decision win over Nick Kisner on May 27 in Atlantic City, NJ.

'Discombobulating' Jones Heads To China July 9!

DC Boxing Hall of Fame ring announcer Henry "Discombobulating" Jones is in Chengdu, China getting ready for a big assignment this weekend.  Jones will be the announcer for a Pacquiao Promotions card on Saturday, July 9 at the Sichuan Gymnasium.

Scheduled to be on the card is a 10-round bout for the vacant WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council Welterweight Title between Rafik Harutjunjan of The Netherlands (9-0, five KO's) and Sonny Katiandagho of The Philippines (9-1, five KO's).

Also on the card is a female bout that includes someone who should be familiar to Beltway Boxing fans -- "Little Miss Tyson" Melissa St. Vil of Brooklyn, NY (7-2-3) will take on "La Super Baby" Katy Wilson Castillo of the Dominican Republic (18-1, 11 KO's) in a 10-round encounter.

St. Vil has fought twice at the Jonathan Ogden Foundation boxing event in Cockeysville, MD including in 2015 when she lost a 10-round decision to Jennifer Salinas in a bout that was named the Beltway Boxing Bout Of The Year.   Since that bout, St. Vil won the vacant WBC Silver Female Super Featherweight title in Auckland, NZ on April 16.  Castillo is the IBF Female Super Bantamweight champion.  No word if either title will be on the line in this contest.

Jones would like to thank all of his supporters for your support throughout his 28-year announcing career!

Crystal City Card Changed To August 19!

The King's Promotions/Keystone Boxing card that was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 6 has been postponed until Friday, August 19 in the same location.

The featured bouts remain the same -- Myke "The Professor" Fox of Forestville, MD (10-0, two KO's) vs. Somner "Magic Man" Martin of Martinsburg, VA (5-2, three KO's) in an eight-round super lightweight main event and the six-round all-Maryland heavyweight co-feature between  Luther "Lights Out" Smith of Bowie (5-0, four KO's) and Mike "Silverback" Balogun of Upper Marlboro (6-0, five KO's).

A few additions and subtractions to this card, possibly because of the new date.  The card is slated to mark the first Beltway appearance of Washington, DC bantamweight Jordan "Shortdog" White (2-0, two KO's) in a four-round encounter.  White, however, is scheduled to be on a card on Saturday, July 9 at the Sun Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ.  White's opponent is Juan Carlos Benavides of Sonora, Mexico (5-8-1, two KO's).

Also, Owings Mills, MD heavyweight Colby Madison has been added to the card.  Madison (2-0, one KO) won his last bout by four-round unanimous decision to Lonnie Kornegay on May 14 in Timonium, MD.

Two Beltway Boxers fought on a card at the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, CT Thursday night.
Baltimore, MD light heavyweight Willie "For Real" Williams lost by second-round TKO to undefeated Charles Foster of New Haven, CT.  The bout was stopped at 2:01.  Williams has dropped four in a row and is now 14-12-2, four KO's.  Foster is 11-0, six KO's.

"The Bolivian Queen" Jennifer Salinas of Manassas, VA scored a fourth-round TKO over late sub Angel "Non-Stop" Gladney of Columbia, SC.  According to Jason Marchetti of Fightnews.com, Salinas, now fighting out of Providence, RI, was in control the entire bout, aggressively throwing right and left hooks to the head and body. Salinas fought on the inside and from a distance when her opponent allowed, winning all the rounds until the TKO. It was unclear whether it was the referee or the doctor standing on the mat that called off the fight, but Salinas earned the knockout with her onslaught of landed combinations.  The bout was halted at 1:51.  This is the third win Salinas has earned over Gladney.  Salinas won by fifth and 10th round decisions in the two previous bouts.

Salinas, competing on her birthday, has won eight straight contests and is now 19-3, five KO's. Gladney drops to 9-12-1, six KO's.
