Lamont Roach, Jr. Added to Broner-Taylor Card September 6!

Upper Marlboro, MD lightweight Lamont Roach, Jr. will compete on the Saturday, September 6 card at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH.  That's the card that features Emanuel Taylor challenging Adrian Broner in the main event.

Roach, Jr. (2-0, one KO) will take on Rocco Espinosa of Las Vegas, NV (4-8) in a four-round contest.  Roach is coming off a first-round stoppage of Miguel Antonio Rodriguez on June 5 in Boston, MA.  Rodriguez dislocated his shoulder in the contest.

Espinosa dropped a four-round split decision to undefeated Santiago Guevara on January 24 in Indio, CA.  Espinosa will be facing an undefeated boxer for the third straight time as he tries to break a three-bout losing streak.

Amateur Boxing Returns To Shake And Bake in Baltimore September 6!

A number of talented amateur boxers are slated to participate at the amateur boxing event on Saturday, September 6 at Shake And Bake located at 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore, MD.

Junior middleweight Malik Hawkins will appear on the card on what is slated to be his amateur swan song. Also scheduled to appear is multi-time junior national champion Lorenzo Simpson as well as Sharif Rahman, youngest son of former undisputed heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman.

Featherstone Amateur Swan Song Highlights Amateur Card in Baltimore September 20th!

Baltimore Boxing is bringing an amateur card to the William Myers Pavilion on Saturday, September 20th at 7:30 PM.  Myers Pavilion is located at 4300 West Bay Avenue in Brooklyn, MD.

The featured bout will mark the amateur finale for Baltimore middleweight Jerome Featherstone.  The 2013 Regional Golden Gloves champion will battle Francisco Bustos of Washington, DC for the East Coast Middleweight championship.  Featherstone, who started boxing just two years ago, is looking to turn pro by the end of this year.

There will be two other title bouts on the card.  Joey Veazey, who won a silver medal at the 2014 National Junior Golden Gloves, battles Keayen Coleman for the Maryland Welterweight title and Justin Knight faces Allan Burris for the Maryland Junior Welterweight championship.  

There will also be an award presentation -- the Murray B. Smith "School of Hard Knocks" award -- named after promoter Jake Smith's father.  The award will go to former IBF Junior Middleweight champion and Baltimore's own Vincent "The Ambassador" Pettway.

September 27 Is Championship Saturday Along The Beltway!

We will conclude what will be a VERY busy September of boxing along the Beltway with two championship contests that will be held in separate locations on Saturday, September 27.

Undefeated WIBA Welterweight champion Tori "Sho Nuff" Nelson of Ashburn, VA will make the fourth defense of her title when she faces Australian Arlene Blencowe in a 10-round contest at the ABC Sports Complex in Springfield, VA.

Nelson (10-0-3, one KO) won a 10-round unanimous decision over Nicole Woods on June 28 at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore,MD.

Despite having just four pro bouts, Blencowe (2-2) has held the WIBA Junior Welterweight title and the WBF Welterweight crown.  Blencowe lost her last outing -- an eight-round unanimous decision to Sabrina Ostowari on February 14 in Queensland, Australia.


On the same night at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, undefeated DC welterweight Dusty Hernandez Harrison will face veteran Hector "Hurricane" Munoz of Albuquerque, NM in a 10-rounder for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Welterweight title.

Harrison (23-0, 12 KO's) is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Wilfredo Acuna on June 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Munoz (23-13-1, 15 KO's) has faced some top-flight competition in his 12-year career including, Shawn Porter, Mike Jones, Jermall Charlo, Danny O'Connor and Hector Camacho, Jr.  Munoz scored a first-round knockout over winless Fidel Zazueta on June 14 in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Buchanan Vs. Johnson: What's Your Opinion?

For the first time in a long while, I have decided to put up a poll on an upcoming bout.  Since there has been so much talk about a showdown between Beltway light heavyweights Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan and Alexander "The Great" Johnson and now that the eight-round bout is less than a month away, I wanted to know what the Beltway Boxing community thought.  Please answer this poll about the contest that will take place on the GFS Promotions card on Saturday, September 20 at the Washington Convention Center.  Also, please watch the great promo video that accompanies it.

Reed To Throw First Pitch At Baysox Season Finale!

Undefeated Waldorf, MD junior welterweight Mike "Yes, Indeed" Reed has been chosen to throw out the first pitch at the season finale for the Bowie Baysox baseball team on Sunday afternoon August 31 at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie.

Reed (10-0, six KO's) will be on the mound before the game begins at 2:05 PM.  Reed is slated to be back in the boxing ring on Saturday, October 4 when he returns to Bally's Atlantic City in New Jersey.

Broner Versus Peterson ---NOT!!!

Some of you may have seen the above picture from Adrian Broner's Instagram feed with Broner standing nose-to-nose with IBF Junior Welterweight champion, DC's own Lamont Peterson.

The caption underneath read that Broner was going to face Peterson in his next bout on October 18 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.  This would mean that Broner would back out of his September 6 contest with Emanuel Taylor in Broner's hometown of Cincinnati, OH.

If it were actually true.  Broner played an August Fool joke that very briefly unsettled folks around the boxing world.  The Peterson camp got a lot of calls concerning this situation.  I can assure you this bout will not happen.  Broner and his camp has, actually, been training with Peterson at the Headbangers gym in DC for the last two months in preparation for the bout with Taylor, which is still on.

Alantez Fox Signs With DiBella Entertainment and New Legend Boxing!

Undefeated Forestville, MD junior middleweight Alantez "SlyAza" Fox has signed a promotional agreement with DiBella Entertainment and New Legend Boxing.

Fox (12-0-1, four KO's) impressed his new promoters back in September of 2012 when he fought another DiBella/New Legend prospect, Frank Galarza, to an eight-round draw in Queens, NY.

"Fox is an undefeated, super high quality junior middleweight," said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. "We feel that Galarza is one of the best 154lb. fighters in the world and Fox gave him his toughest fight. We believe that, along with Galarza, he too can be a force on the championship level in the competitive 154lb. division."

"I am excited about the signing of our new prospect, Alantez Fox," said Felipe Gomez, of New Legend Boxing. "I saw him for the first time in 2012 when he fought Galarza on one of my New Legend shows. Watching him fight, I really had a lot of interest in him. With his height, reach and boxing skill, Fox is going to be a huge threat in the junior middleweight division."

Fox has not fought since his six-round unanimous decision
over Zain Shah in September of 2013 at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.  Fox is scheduled to return to Rosecroft on September 12 in a six-round contest.

World Champions Get Together in Baltimore!

A number of current and former world champions were in attendance for the Hardwork Promotions card at the Patapsco Arena Saturday night.  These were some of the Beltway's finest!

Nicholson Wins In Four; Reeves Takes Six-Round Unanimous Decision!

In the main event at Patapsco Arena,Laurel, MD middleweight Demond "D'Best At It" Nicholson saw one streak end and one continue.

For the first time in his young career, Nicholson was taken past the first and second rounds.  Nicholson stopped his previous seven opponents in the first.  However, Nicholson kept his overall stoppage streak alive by scoring a TKO over a very tough Taneal Goyco of Philadelphia, PA at the end of the fourth round.

The stoppage came with a bit of controversy.  Late in the fourth, Nicholson dropped Goyco with a quick right hand. Goyco tried to get up twice and fell before getting up to beat the count.

As the bell sounded to end the round, Goyco walked unsteadily to his corner, which happened to be where the ringside doctors were sitting.  Chief Physician Dr. John Stiller took a look at Goyco on his stool and immediately told referee Kenny Chevalier to stop the bout.  The Goyco corner was furious but Stiller was very adamant about his decision.

Nicholson remains perfect at 9-0, nine KO's.  Goyco is now 6-8-1, three KO's.

The co-feature saw Baltimore, MD cruiserweight Travis "Seveer" Reeves dominate Bryan "Wildman" Donahue of Philadelphia en route to a six-round unanimous decision.

Reeves hit Donahue with every punch seemingly possible.  However, Donahue showed his toughness by urgent Reeves to hit him more.  Reeves won by shutout on all three cards, 60-54 to raise his record to 6-2-2, two KO's while Donahue falls to 3-10-2.

Edwin "El Matador" Reyes
won a four-round majority decision over Benjamin "Wildcat" Olinga. Reyes's corner, led by legendary Adrian Davis, won this bout for him.  Reyes moved from side to side and allowed Olinga to come forward.  Reyes was more aggressive the rest of the way and that gave him the edge.  Reyes won by scores of 39-37 (twice). One judge had it even.

Reyes goes the distance for the first time and is now 4-0, three KO's.  Olinga is now 1-8. 

Mario "Bazooka" Flores used a crushing shot to the solar plexus to stop Devon Mosley at 58 seconds of the first.

Baltimore heavyweights Lonnie Kornegay and Alando Pugh fought to a four-round majority draw.

M. Taylor Weighs 184 For Six-Round Bout In Chicago!

Baltimore boxer Maxell "The General" Taylor returns to action tonight at US Cellular Field in Chicago, IL in a six-round contest against undefeated hometown boxer Mike "Hollywood" Jimenez.

Taylor (18-7-1, eight KO's) will be looking to break a three-bout losing streak that took place against opponents with a combined won-loss record of 49-3.  Taylor was stopped in all three contests.  Jimenez (14-0, 10 KO's) is coming off a six-round unanimous decision over Lester Gonzalez on April 18 in Hammond, IN.

Taylor weighed 184 pounds while Jimenez came in at 176 pounds.

Kelly Upset, Martin Scores KO In California; Corley Wins WBF Title in Florida!

Interesting night for Beltway Boxers on both coasts Friday night.

DC heavyweight Danny "Smooth" Kelly suffered his first pro loss as he dropped a six-round unanimous decision to late sub Avery Gibson of Los Angeles at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA.   According to reports, Kelly was simply outworked for the duration of the bout and lost by scores of 60-53, 59-54 and 57-56.

Kelly's record is now 6-1-1, five KO's while Gibson rises to 4-6-2, one KO.

DC middleweight Kareem "Reemo" Martin did indeed appear on this card and made short work of the debuting Taif Harris of Palmdale, CA dropping him two times en route to a first-round stoppage at 1:57.  Martin is now 2-0-1, two KO's.

Meanwhile at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, FL, former WBO Junior Welterweight champion DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley captured the vacant WBF (World Boxing Federation) North American Junior Welterweight title with a second-round TKO over late sub Dedrick Bell of Memphis, TN.  Bell replaced David Rodela in the bout.    Corley is now 41-22-1, 25 KO's while Bell dropped to 12-20-1, seven KO's.

Kelly Hits Scales In California; Will Face Different Opponent!

Danny Kelly weighed in at 249 pounds for his six-round contest tonight at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA.

Kelly's opponent has changed. Avery Gibson of California (3-4-1, two KO's) will replace Javier Torres in this bout.  Gibson has lost two straight -- he weighed in at 245 pounds.  Kelly's original bout was slated to make tonight's ESPN2 telecast.  No word yet on whether this bout will be shown.

Kareem Martin was slated to be on the card but, according to reports, his bout has been scratched.

Crews Battles Spencer In Rematch During 'Battle Of The Frontiers' In Montreal Tonight!

Multi-time national amateur champion Franchon Crews of Baltimore will be participating with Team USA tonight in Montreal, Quebec, Canada as part of a dual event with Team Canada being called the "Battle of the Frontiers."

Crews will face a familiar foe in 2012 Canadian Olympian and three-time world champion Mary Spencer in a middleweight contest.  Crews defeated Spencer in March of this year at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

In fact, Team USA, which also features the likes of Olympic bronze medalist Marlen Esparza and Olympian Queen Underwood, won six of nine contests during the first meeting of the two countries in March.

Amateur Boxing in Southeast Friday Night!

We have another free amateur boxing card coming to town on Friday, August 22 at 6 PM at the Ferebee Hope Recreation Center located at 3899 8th Street in Southeast DC.

The weigh-in for the event will be at 3 PM and the card gets underway at 6 PM.

There will be a lot of amateur action in the area over the next few weeks.  On Saturday, August 23, there is the card at the Laurel Ice House followed by the Cease Fire event on August 30 in Northwest DC.  There will also be two events in the first two weeks of September as well.

Amateur Boxing Comes to Northwest DC August 30!

The event has become a late-summer tradition in DC and for the seventh year, it returns for another great event of food, fun and amateur boxing.

The event is the Cease Fire Don't Smoke the Brothers and Sisters amateur boxing event and cookout that will take place on Saturday, August 30 at the Upshur Recreation Center located at 14th and Arkansas Avenue in Northwest DC.  Universal Madness and the UMAR Learning Center in DC are also sponsors of the event.

The cookout will begin at noon and last until 8:30 PM.  The food is free and there will also be free medical screenings.  The boxing will commence at 3 PM.

As in previous years, the event also calls for a six-month moratorium to stop the killings in the city.  For more information, call 202-210-1960.

Taylor and Broner Meet In Press Conference for September 6 Contest!

Emanuel "Tranzformer" Taylor (right) and Adrian "The Problem" Broner met each other this past Thursday in the first press conference to announce their Saturday, September 6 12-round contest at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, OH.

Both men had plenty to say during this conference about the bout.
Taylor:  “He can’t get under my skin. I always keep my calm. I knew he was going to talk, but at the end of the day we have to throw our hands. I’m definitely an underdog, but I can’t tell you my game plan. We just have to go in there and do what we have to do to get a win. I have to beat him really bad to get the win, I know that. I know we’re going up against the odds fighting him in his hometown. I’m going to go in there and fight my fight. That’s what we train hard for. I saw his fight against [Marcos] Maidana and I saw a lot of weaknesses there. But that’s not the only way he can be beaten. I definitely can take advantages of his weaknesses but I have some other plans for fighting this guy. I’m definitely looking to make a statement. This is the biggest fight of my career. This is what I’ve been working for my whole life since I was a little kid. It’s my time to make a statement. I’m coming to fight to give the fans what they want. At the end of the day may the best man win. I’m coming here to fight and do my thing.”

Broner: “I’m more than excited to be back in Cincinnati. It’s like when you spoil a kid —when you buy a kid a new pair of sneakers, the next time they come out they are going to expect another pair. Every time I’ve fought at home I gave my fans a knockout. I spoiled my fan base in Cincinnati. So every time I fight here that’s what they want.bI have to give them a knockout, I got to. And it’s got to be pretty, too. I think I’m going to hit him with the 30 piece and the biscuit. My fans keep supporting me and I’m going to fight for them. We’ve waited a long time to get to this spot and now we have to stay on top.

“My mind isn’t anywhere but on Emanuel Taylor. That’s my main objective. After I get my job done then I’ll think about another fight. But right now I’m focused on what I have to do. I’m going to put on a show like I always do and I’m ready right now. I know Taylor pretty well and I respect him, but at the end of the day he’s my enemy. I have to go out there and get my victory.”

Corley Battles Rodela August 22 In Tampa!

BATB has learned that former WBO Junior Welterweight champion DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley will take on David Rodela of Oxnard, CA on Friday, August 22 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, FL.  The bout will be for the vacant WBF North America Light Welterweight championship.

Corley (40-22-1, 24 KO's) battles for the first time in 2014.  Corley lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Franklin Mamani on December 13 in La Paz, Bolivia.  The bout was for the WBC Fecarbox Junior Welterweight title.

Rodela (17-9-3, seven KO's) is battling a Beltway Boxer for the second straight time. Rodela won an eight-round unanimous decision over Tyrell Samuel on July 11 in Oxnard.

Kelly, Martin Head to California August 22!

Two Beltway Boxers will head to the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA on Friday, August 22.  This card will be the final ESPN2 Friday Night Fights telecast for the season.

There is a possibility that one of the local boxers might make the telecast.  Undefeated DC heavyweight Danny "Smooth" Kelly will face fellow undefeated boxer Javier "Monster" Torres of Long Beach, CA in a six-round contest.  Kelly (6-0-1, five KO's) is coming off a first-round TKO over Eric Newell on June 5 in Boston, MA.  If the bout does make the telecast, this will be Kelly's second straight national TV appearance.  The bout against Newell was shown on Fox Sports 1.

Torres (6-0-2, three KO's) is coming off a four-round draw against Rodney Hernandez on March 14 in Tustin, CA.  This will be the first scheduled six-round contest for Torres.

Also on the undercard, rookie DC welterweight Kareem "Reemo" Martin will be in a four-round contest against the debuting Taif Harris of San Diego, CA.  Martin (1-0-1, one KO) battled to a four-round draw against Azamat Umarzoda on May 16 in Mashantucket, CT.

The main event on this card is the returning former world champion Austin Trout taking on Daniel Dawson.

Amateur Boxing Returns To Laurel August 23!

Jeter Promotions and Crawford Boxing will bring another amateur boxing card to the Laurel Ice Gardens located at 13800 Old Gunpowder Road in Laurel, MD on Saturday, August 23.

Scheduled to participate on this card are Club One Fitness boxers Amelia Moore, Ben Marshall, Monzo Condi and Davonte Warren.   Also slated to compete are Matt Reid of Level Up Boxing and Laurel Boxing's Andy Barrett.

Nicholson Faces Goyco August 23 in Baltimore!

Undefeated Laurel, MD middleweight Demond "D Best At It" Nicholson will take the biggest risk to his perfect record (8-0, eight KO's) of his young career when he takes on Taneal Goyco of Philadelphia, PA in a six-round bout on the Hardwork Promotions card on August 23 at the Patapsco Arena in Baltimore, MD.

Nicholson has another streak that will be tested -- his last seven bouts have all ended in the first round.  This includes a stoppage of Jess Noriega on July 18 in Fort Washington, MD.

Goyco (6-7-1, three KO's) has won two of his last three contests including a six-round knockout victory over Jeremy Trussell on the last Patapsco card on April 12.  The loss was the first for Trussell and he has not won a bout since, going 0-1-1 in his next two contests.

In other scheduled bouts on the card, Baltimore cruiserweight Travis Reeves takes on "Wildman" Brian Donahue of Philadelphia in a six-round contest.  Reeves (5-2-1, two KO's) won a six-round unanimous decision over Lamont Capers on June 28 at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore.  Donahue (3-9-2) will try to keep positive momentum going after winning a four-round unanimous decision over Derek Brent on June 20 in Scranton, PA.

Also in what should be an interesting four-round contest, undefeated Laurel, MD lightweight Edwin Reyes (3-0, three KO's) will take on Benjamin "Wildcat" Olinga of DC (1-7).  Reyes scored a first-round TKO over Christopher Haney on the April 12 card at the Patapsco Arena.

Olinga has fought a growing list of Beltway prospects in his young career -- this will be the seventh Beltway Boxer he has faced.  In his last outing, Olinga lost a tough four-round majority decision to Seth Billups on June 28 at Du Burns.

Olinga has also competed against Mykal Fox, Yurii Polischuk, Cornelius Whitlock, Tyrone Wright, Kevin Womack, Jr. and Dontre King.  Olinga's lone out-of-town opponent was Rolando Chinea of Lancaster, PA whom Olinga lost to by fourth-round TKO at Patapsco on November 23.

Also scheduled to be on this card are Beltway Boxers Nuwan Jayakody, Shaborn Ryals, Alexandru Marin and the debuting Jeffrey McCalla, the brother of undefeated middleweight Cecil McCalla.

Buchanan-Johnson Highlights Convention Center Card September 20!

The matchup has been one of the most talked about ones in the Beltway Region for months. Now, the matchup will be a reality.  Super middleweights Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan and Alexander "The Great" Johnson will clash in an eight-round contest on Saturday, September 20 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Capitol Heights, MD's Buchanan (21-3, 14 KO's) has not fought since scoring a third-round TKO over William Gill at the Convention Center on December 14.  Johnson, of Oxon Hill, MD, (15-2, six KO's), will be trying to bounce back from his 10-round unanimous decision loss to Eleider Alvarez on May 24 in Montreal, Canada.

This bout will be the local highlight on what looks to be a power packed card put on by the new promoters in town -- GFS Entertainment Group.  Former IBF Super Middleweight champion Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy of St. Petersburg, FL will headline the card in a 10-round bout against Rayco "War" Saunders of Pittsburgh, PA.

Lacy (26-5, 18 KO's) is coming off a second-round TKO loss to Umberto Savigne on July 10 in Miami, FL.  Saunders (23-24-2, 10 KO's) will be trying to break a five-bout losing streak.

Also on the card will be Hector "Machito" Camacho, Jr. of Orlando, FL who will battle "Dangerous" Ryan Davis of East St. Louis, IL in another 10-round contest.  Camacho (57-6-1, 31 KO's) lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Hector Munoz on September 11 in Parker, AZ.  Davis (24-14-3, nine KO's) has lost his last five contests.

The card is part of a big weekend of boxing-themed activities which will include scheduled appearances by many of the Beltway's former world champions, including hall of famers Sugar Ray Leonard and Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson.

We have some results from the Jeter Promotions/RBA Promotions card Saturday night at North Hall at Eastern Market in DC.

Locals Eric Govan and Stan Williamson scored first-round TKO's while Yurii Polischuk won a four-round unanimous decision.

Bobby Gunn, Jr. won a six-round unanimous decision over Sean Lockhart to capture the WBU Youth Junior Middleweight title.

Also, Elton Dharry scored a first-round TKO while Jonathan Cepeda won his bout by second-round disqualification.

Petersons Score Knockout Wins In Brooklyn!

The Peterson Brothers scored solid knockout victories tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

IBF Junior Welterweight champion Lamont Peterson made a successful defense of his crown with a 10th round TKO of Edgar Santana of Harlem, NY.  Peterson was very solid throughout the contest, doing a great job of going to the body.  Eventually, Peterson broke Santana down to where the bout was stopped at 2:48.

Peterson is now 33-2-1, 17 KO's while Santana drops to 29-5, 20 KO's.

Earlier tonight, Anthony Peterson scored a wicked first-round knockout of Mexican Edgar Riovalle.  Peterson dropped Riovalle with a crushing right hand with about 30 seconds to go in the round.  Riovalle could not beat the 10-count and the bout was over at 2:41.

Peterson is now 34-1, 22 KO's while Riovalle falls to 37-19-2, 26 KO's.

Ballard Stops Trotter; Dozier Drops Decision in Brooklyn!

Beltway Boxers opened the card tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

D'Mitrius Ballard of Temple Hills, MD stopped Columbia, MD's Barry Trotter at 2:35 of the first round.  According to reports, Ballard trapped Trotter along the ropes at the two-minute mark and pummeled him until the bout was stopped.

Ballard remains undefeated at 6-0, five KO's.  Trotter is now 2-2, one KO.

Also, DC junior middleweight Lenwood "Mr. Composure" Dozier lost a six-round unanimous decision to undefeated Prichard Colon of Puerto Rico.  Dozier was shutout 60-54 on all three cards.  However, Dozier was able to extend Colon the distance for the first time in his pro career.

Dozier's record drops to 9-7-1, four KO's.  Colon is now 11-0, 10 KO's.

Five Beltway Boxers weighed in for tonight's card at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Lamont Peterson tipped the scales at the junior welterweight limit of 140 pounds for his IBF title defense against Edgar Santana.  Santana weighed in at 139 1/2.

Anthony Peterson came in at 137 pounds for his battle with Edgar Riovalle, who was seven pounds over the contracted weight at 144.

D'Mitrius Ballard weighed in at 169 pounds for his six-round encounter with fellow Beltway Boxer Barry Trotter, who came in at 168.

The fifth local on the card is Lenwood Dozier who will take on Prichard Colon.  Dozier tipped the scales at 154 while Colon was 150 pounds.

Anthony Peterson's bout will be a part of the Showtime Extreme telecast that begins at 7 PM ET.  Lamont Peterson's contest will be one of the bouts on the Showtime Championship Boxing tripleheader that will get underway tonight at 9 PM ET.

Stevenson Stopped In Ninth Round In Pittsburgh!

James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson of Baltimore put on a gallant effort but he was eventually stopped by Monessen, PA's "Who Can Mexican" Sammy Vasquez, Jr. in the ninth round tonight at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA. 

Vasquez was clearly the best opponent Stevenson has faced in his career.  Vasquez thrilled the hometown crowd with his accuracy to the head and body.

Stevenson tried to make the bout a brawl midway through and caught Vasquez with a solid right at the end of the fifth round.

Eventually, however, Vasquez's pressure proved to be too much for Stevenson as Vasquez wore Stevenson down, getting a stoppage at 21 seconds of the ninth.

Stevenson loses for the first time and is now 21-1, 14 KO's.  Vasquez remains undefeated at 16-0, 12 KO's and wins the USBA Welterweight title.

Card Complete For Saturday At Eastern Market!

The Jeter Promotions/RBA Promotions card is ready to go for the North Hall at Eastern Market on Saturday, August 9.

The main event will be a six-round contest featuring undefeated junior welterweight Bobby Gunn of Hackensack, NJ who will take on veteran Sean Lockhart of Columbia, SC.

Gunn (4-0, four KO's) is coming off a first-round over Evan Coles on June 14 in Annandale, VA.  Lockhart (5-22-2, two KO's) lost his last bout by first-round knockout to Daniel Powell on June 7 in Greensboro, NC.

In another six-round contest, super bantamweight Elton Dharry of Brooklyn, NY will face Leshaun "Lil' Bozeman" Blair of Memphis, TN.

Dharry, a native of Guyana (15-5-1, nine KO's), returns to the ring for the first time since May of 2013 when he scored a first-round TKO over Desi Williams in Charlotte, NC.  Blair (4-31) fights for the second time in less than a week.  Blair lost a six-round unanimous decision to Dedrick Bell in Charlotte, NC.

Beltway Boxer "The Baby-Faced Assassin" Yurii Polischuk" of Landover, MD will take on veteran Damon Antoine of Akron, OH in a six-round encounter.  Polischuk (4-1-1, two KO's) won a four-round unanimous decision over Benjamin Olinga on April 26 in Annandale, VA.  Antoine (11-54-2, five KO's) lost a six-round unanimous decision to Eric Johnson on July 26 in Winston-Salem, NC.

In four-round contests, Columbia, MD heavyweight Stan Williamson will battle the debuting William Chaplin of North Carolina.  Williamson (1-0, one KO) made his pro debut on June 14 in Annandale, VA and scored a second-round TKO over Keanu Braithwaite.

Cheverly, MD light heavyweight Eric "The Inferno" Govan returns to action against debuting Nathan Chambers of NC.  Govan (2-1) will try to bounce back from suffering his first pro loss -- a first-round TKO to Jess Noriega on September 7 in Fort Washington, MD.

Also, Jonathan Cepeda of West Palm Beach, FL will face Quincy Miner of Kansas City, MO in a four-round light heavyweight bout.  Cepeda (12-1, 11 KO's) competes for the first time since suffering his first pro loss -- a first-round TKO defeat to Lamar Russ in October of 2012.  Miner (3-7) was disqualified in his last outing in the third round to Dillon Cook on May 24 in Miami, OK.  Miner fought in DC on April 19 and lost by second-round TKO to D'Mitrius Ballard.

Stevenson Weighs 146 For USBA Title Bout in Pittsburgh!

James Stevenson weighed in at 146 pounds for his USBA Welterweight title bout versus Sammy Vasquez tonight at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA.  Vasquez weighed 147.

The bout will be shown on Fox Sports 1.  The telecast will begin at 9 PM ET.

Anthony Peterson Bout On Showtime Extreme Saturday!

Anthony Peterson's contest that will take place on Saturday, August 9 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY will appear on the Showtime Extreme channel telecast that will begin at 7 PM ET.

Peterson (33-1, 21 KO's) will take on Mexican veteran Edgar Riovalle (37-18-2, 26 KO's) in a bout scheduled for either eight or 10 rounds.

D'Mitrius Ballard of Temple Hills, MD will be in a non-televised six-rounder on the card against Columbia, MD's Barry Trotter.

Quarles Loses Decision in Minnesota!

"The Pride of Alexandria" Brandon Quarles lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Corey "Collateral Damage" Rodriguez of St. Anthony, MN Saturday night at the Black Bear Casino in Carlton, MN.

According to Jesse Kelley of MinnesotaBoxing.com,  Rodriguez's relentless pressure and accurate punches were the difference in the fight although Quarles did well boxing, moving, and landing solid shots of his own particularly in the early going. Scores read 78-74, 77-75, 78-74 all in favor of Rodriguez.

Quarles's record drops to 13-3-1, five KO's while Rodriguez's record rises to 12-3-3, four KO's.

Cummings Stopped In Seventh In Atlantic City!

Cory Cummings was stopped in the seventh round tonight by Issac Chilemba at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City, NJ.  According to Matt Richardson of Fightnews.com, the fight was called off after Cummings’ corner threw in the towel at the 2:28 mark. Cummings had minimal success early in the bout by barreling into Cummings’ chest and banging away. Chilemba (23-2, 10 KO’s) began to establish his distance more effectively as the fight wore on and started boxing well from the outside. As each round progressed he busted up Cummings more and more until his opponents face was a bloodied and swollen mess.

Cummings is now 17-7-1, 13 KO's and has lost three straight.  Chilemba is now 23-2, 10 KO's.

Free Kickoff Party For New Promotional Company Sunday In DC!

There is a new promotional company that will be working the Beltway in the near future and they are kicking things off in a rather unconventional way -- with a free launch party on Sunday, August 3 at the Washington Court Hotel, 525 New Jersey Avenue in Northwest DC.

The promotional company is called GSF Promotional Group and they are having a big weekend of boxing-themed activities during the week of September 20th.  We'll tell you more about those events a little later on.  However, this party is slated to feature many former world champions from the Beltway area that will be honored again during the weekend of the 20th.  

The party will begin at 3 PM.  I'm now being told that the party is an invite-only affair.

Williams, Jr. Loses To Campillo On Cuts In Fifth!

Thomas "Top Dog" Williams, Jr. has lost his first pro bout as former world champion Gabriel Campillo of Spain stopped Williams at the end of the fifth round due to a bad cut over Williams's left eye at the Little Creek Casino and Resort in Shelton, WA.

Williams was in a very tough battle that fell apart for him in the fourth round when Campillo landed a right hand that cut Williams.  Williams and his cornermen seemed to be unnerved by the cut, as this was the first time this had happened.  After the fifth round, the corner called the doctor over to look at the cut and the bout was stopped.

The bout was an IBF elimination contest and with the win, Campillo vaults to number two in the world.  Campillo's record is now 24-6-1, 10 KO's.  Williams is now 17-1, 12 KO's.

Also, on the ESPN2 telecast, Richmond, VA's "The Chosen One" Immanuwel Aleem scored a sixth-round TKO over a very game Juan Carlos Rojas of Mexico.  The stoppage came at 2:45 of the sixth.  Aleem is now 10-0, six KO's while Rojas falls to 6-7-1, four KO's.

We are also hearing that Phil Jackson Benson has scored a fourth-round TKO over Thomas Hanshaw.  Benson is now 14-1, 13 KO's.  Hanshaw drops to 5-4, three KO's.  Also, Gervonta Davis (8-0, eight KO's) scored a first-round TKO over Hector Lopez (1-5).  The bout was stopped at 1:14 of the first.  David Grayton stopped Eddie Cordova in the second round.  Grayton is now 9-0, eight KO's while Cordova is 4-9-1, one KO.

Cummings Weighs 174 For Atlantic City Action!

Cory Cummings weighed 174 for his 10-round contest against Isaac Chilemba at Revel Resort in Atlantic City, NJ.  Chilemba tipped the scales at 176.

Beltway Boxers Hit Scales At Little Creek Casino!

Five Beltway Boxers weighed in for their bouts that will take place tonight at the Little Creek Casino in Shelton, WA.

Thomas Williams, Jr. (17-0, 12 KO's) and his opponent, Gabriel Campillo (23-6-1, 10 KO's), both tipped the scales at the light heavyweight limit of 175 for their 12-round IBF eliminator bout that will be the main event on the ESPN2 telecast that gets underway at 9 PM ET.  The winner of the bout will be ranked number two by the IBF.

David Grayton (8-0, seven KO's) tipped the scales at 147 for his six-round contest against Eddie Cordova of Clearfield, UT (4-8-1, one KO).  Cordova weighed in at 148 pounds.

Immanuwel Aleem (9-0, six KO's) hit the scales at 163 pounds.  Aleem's opponent, Juan Carlos Rojas of Mexico (6-6-1, four KO's), weighed in at 162 pounds.  Their bout is slated for six rounds.

Gervonta Davis (7-0, seven KO's) weighed in at 132 pounds as did his opponent, Hector Lopez (1-4) of Mexico.

Phil Jackson Benson (13-1, 12 KO's) weighed in at 180 pounds while his opponent, Thomas Hanshaw of Ashland, KY (5-3, three KO's) was 181 pounds.
