Congratulations to Upper Marlboro, MD super featherweight Lamont Roach, Jr. who scored a seventh-round TKO over Deivis Julio Bassa of Colombia tonight to win the WBO International Super Featherweight title at the Oasis Garden Hotel in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The bout was the main event on the Golden Boy on ESPN telecast.
Roach, Jr. took control of the contest in the third round when he used two right hands to Bassa's head to drop him to the canvas seat-first. From there, Roach, Jr. used a large array of power punches (especially to the body) to wear Bassa down. Bassa could not answer the bell for the seventh round.
This is the second regional title for Roach, Jr., who won the WBC Youth Silver Super Featherweight crown in 2017. Roach, Jr. remains undefeated at 17-0-1, seven KO's. Bassa falls to 20-5, 12 KO's.
