Two accomplished Beltway Boxers will be in big world title bouts in April. On Saturday, April 7th, IBF Junior Middleweight champion "Swift" Jarrett Hurd of Accokeek, MD will put his title on the line against WBA Super World Super Welterweight champion "The American Dream" Erislandy Lara of Houston, TX by way of Guantanamo, Cuba in a unification bout at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
Hurd, the two-time Beltway Boxer of the Year, is undefeated at 21-0, 15 KO's. Hurd has stopped his last seven opponents, including a 10th-round stoppage of former world champion Austin Trout in his last outing (his first title defense) on October 14th in Brooklyn, NY. Lara (25-2-2, 14 KO's) made the fifth defense of his title on the same October 14th card, winning a 12-round unanimous decision over Terrell Gausha.
Two weeks later on Saturday, April 21st at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, undefeated former IBF Super Featherweight champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis of Baltimore, MD will take on former WBA Featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar of Buenos Aires, Argentina for the vacant WBA Super Featherweight title. Davis (19-0, 18 KO's) scored an eighth-round TKO over Francisco Fonseca on August 26 in Las Vegas. However, Davis lost his title on the scales because he came in overweight. Cuellar (28-2, 21 KO's) will look to bounce back from dropping his WBA title in a 12-round split decision loss to Abner Mares in December of 2016 in Los Angeles, CA. Cuellar has not fought since that bout.
Both bouts will be televised on Showtime.
