We will have the Beltway Boxing Knockout of the Year announcement later this evening. However, there is some very important news that was announced today that may benefit a number of Beltway Boxers in 2015.
Earlier today in New York City, uber-boxing manager Al Haymon announced his new "Premier Boxing Champions" series that will be shown on NBC and NBC Sports Network. The "PBC on NBC," as the show is being called, will feature 20 cards throughout the year -- five Saturday prime time shows on NBC, six NBC Saturday afternoon cards and nine on Saturday in prime time on the NBC Sports Network.
They announced one of the big matchups for the series (pictured here) -- IBF Super Lightweight champion Lamont Peterson will take on WBC/WBA champion Danny Garcia of Philadelphia, PA on April 11 at a site to be determined. That bout would be on NBC.
The announcement of this series could be a huge shot in the arm to the Beltway Boxing scene. As of right now, 11 local boxers are signed with Haymon and will probably be on a number of these cards that will take place. Haymon is not a licensed promoter, so he will be working with promoters he has good relationships with like Goossen Boxing and DiBella Entertainment.
The series will begin on March 7 in Las Vegas, NV with an outstanding doubleheader -- Keith Thurman battles Robert Guerrero and Adrian Broner takes on John Molina. Reports are saying that all boxers on the PBC Series will undergo very rigorous drug-testing.
Hall of Famer and Beltway Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard will be an analyst on the series.
