Baltimore, MD's Tyrieshia "Lady Tyga" Douglas will get an opportunity for her first world title on Thursday, November 13 when she moves up in weight to challenge Christina Ruiz of San Antonio, TX for the vacant WIBA Super Flyweight title at the Royal Farms Arena (formerly the Baltimore Arena) in Baltimore.
The undefeated Douglas (7-0, three KO's) has scored back-to-back first-round knockouts in her last two contests. This will be Douglas's first time competing in a scheduled 10-round contest as she tries to be the fifth female Beltway Boxer to win a world title (joining current champions Tori Nelson and Jennifer Salinas and former champions Isra Girgrah Wynn and Lisa Foster Cohen).
Ruiz (7-6-3, four KO's) will be the most experienced boxer Douglas has faced. Not only has Ruiz had more pro bouts, she has also faced better competition en route to winning a world title of her own (the IFBA Bantamweight title). Ruiz has battled such notables as Jennifer Han, Alicia Ashley, Kaliesha West and Emily Klinefelter.
We will post the rest of this card later in the week.
