Seven Beltway Boxers Advance to USA Nationals Finals!

Big day for Beltway Boxing at the semifinals of the USA Boxing National Championships in Spokane, WA today.  Seven locals have advanced to the championship round which will be held on Saturday.

In the Elite Women's 132 Pound Division, Tiara Brown of Hyattsville, MD moved into the finals with a 2-1 decision over Mikaela Mayer of Los Angeles, CA.  Brown will now face US Olympian Queen Underwood of Seattle, WA in the championship bout.  Underwood won a 3-0 decision over Melissa Parker of Spring, TX.

In the Youth Men's Division, Lamont Roach, Jr. of Upper Marlboro, MD has advanced to the championship at 132 Pounds with a 3-0 decision over Anthony Marsella of Smithfield, RI.  Roach will battle Genero Gamez of San Diego, CA in the finals.  Gamez won a 3-0 decision over Thomas Velasquez of Philadelphia, PA.  Gamez knocked Gary Antuanne Russell out of the competition earlier in the week.

Kareem Martin of Clinton, MD advanced to the finals of the Youth Men's 152 Pound division with a 3-0 decision over Adrian Gutierrez of Chula Vista, CA.  Martin will battle Timothy Lee of Las Vegas, NV in the title bout.  Lee won a 3-0 decision over Fabian Alvarado of Irving, TX.

In the Senior Men's division, Gary Antonio Russell of Capitol Heights, MD moved into the finals of the 123 Pound Class with a first-round TKO over Nchatxu Vang of St. Paul, MN.  The bout was stopped at 1:27.

At 141 Pounds, Patrick Harris of Hyattsville, MD won by a 2-1 decision over Damon Allen of Philadelphia, PA.  Harris will now face Robert O'Quinn of Lansing, MI in the finals.  O'Quinn won a 3-0 decision over Kent Cruz of St. Louis, MO.

Also, Marquis Moore, a Fort Washington, MD resident who is stationed at Fort Carson Army base in Colorado, advanced to the finals at 165 Pounds by winning a 3-0 decision over Tony Lamarr of Fort Worth, TX.  Moore will take on Christopher Galeano of Bronx, NY who won via third-round TKO over Ian Green of Paterson, NJ.

BATB has also learned that Franchon Crews of Baltimore has moved into the finals of the Elite Women 165 Pounds bracket when her opponent withdrew from the competition.

In quarterfinal action, Malik Jackson of DC made it a clean sweep for the locals today when he won a 3-0 decision over Zoo Vang of St. Paul, MN.
