Dec. 7 'Bombs Away' Card In Baltimore Is Tribute to Mike Dietrich!

One of the more recent annual boxing traditions in the Beltway region has been the "Bombs Away on Pearl Harbor Day" card put on by Jake Smith and Baltimore Boxing.  Whether the card has featured pros or amateurs, there is usually a lot of excitement on this card.  The amateur card will be held on Friday night, December 7 (the 71st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor) at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore.  The card is scheduled to begin at 8:15 PM.

This year's card will be held in honor of Dundalk, MD heavyweight "The American Dream" Mike Dietrich who passed away in March of 2010 at the age of 26.  Dietrich (12-1, six KO's) fought six of his 13 bouts at Du Burns Arena including his pro debut in November 2004 and his final bout in November of 2009.  Smith will inaugurate the "Mike Dietrich Award" and legendary Baltimore trainer Frank Gilbert of the Loch Raven Gym will be the first recipient.

There will be two title bouts.  Baltimore's Jerome Featherstone will defend his East Coast Middleweight title against Maynard Sterling of Salisbury, MD.  Also, Jamal Dyer of Baltimore will battle for the East Coast Welterweight crown when he faces Jeffrey Rodriguez of Lancaster, PA.

There will also be a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle to benefit the American Red Cross.  Tickets begin at $20 and there will be VIP tables ranging from $200 to $500.  For more information, go to www.baltimoreboxing.com.
