Beltway amateurs Lamont Roach, Jr. and D'Mitrius Ballard have advanced to the quarterfinals of the National PAL Boxing Tournament in Toledo, OH.
Roach, who hails from Upper Marlboro, MD, won a 37-9 decision over Titus Williams of Elmont, NY, 37-9 in the Open 132-pound division while Ballard of Temple Hills, MD scored a 21-11 decision over Xavier Hayden of Las Vegas, NV in the Open 178-pound class.
On the female side, Tiara Brown, a Florida native who trains at the HeadBangers gym in DC, won a 32-12 decision over Jen Hamann of Seattle, WA.
In other Open action, Glen Dezurn of Baltimore, MD lost in the 132-pound class to Lavisas Williams of Rochester, NY by a 23-15 score. Also, Marquis Moore of Fort Washington, MD fell to Peter Reyes of Long Island City, NY, 23-21.
The Junior and Intermediate Boxers have reached the semi-finals and Rudy Calixto of Delmar, MD has advanced to the semis. Calixto moved on to the next round of the 13-14 year old, 85 pounds division by winning a 15-4 decision over Rayvon Williams of Toledo, OH.
Kyron Curry of Baltimore lost an 8-4 decision to Niasheen Williams of Rochester, NY in the 11-12 year old, 80 pound division.
