For many years, one of the premier amateur boxing tournaments in the DC area was the Mayor's Cup. During the 1990's, this tournament showcased some of the area's best boxing talent and helped prepare many for future success in the sport.
Now, after a four-year hiatus, the tournament (now sporting the official name of the Mayor's Youth Boxing Cup) returns and will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 14 and 15 at the Richard England Boys and Girls Club located at 4103 Benning Road in Northeast Washington, DC. On September 14, the action is slated to begin at 6 PM and on the 15th, the event starts at 1 PM. Admission is free.
The tournament is now being hosted by the NOMIS Youth Network, headed by Robert Simon, III, who has done an outstanding job in reaching young people through not only boxing but through conditioning and wellness health since NOMIS was founded in 1995.
