The Open division of the Washington Golden Gloves kicked into the next gear during the third week of competition at the Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Center in Palmer Park, MD.
Reigning 152-pound National Golden Gloves champion David Grayton of Headbangers began the defense of his title with a decision over Kevin Ottley of Down Under Gym. Also, 123-pound national runner-up Gary Antonio Russell of Enigma Boxing won his bout by decision over Paul Jerry of Hillcrest.
In other open bouts, Joel Young of Enigma defeated Joseph Rector of Books and Boxing in a 132-pound contest while Demond Nicholson of Cherry Lane and Main Street Gym's Monreco Goldston advanced in the 165-pound division. Nicholson defeated Sulleman Harrington of RPH Boxing Academy while Goldston won a decision over Nathan Lacey of Enigma.

132 Pounds: Andrew Barrett (Laurel) over Devin Carter (Hagerstown)
141 Pounds: Johnny DaSilva (Round One) over Seaver Warner (Books and Boxing)
141 Pounds: Andy Quinones (Down Under) RSC-2 over Joseph Gordon (Hillcrest)
141 Pounds: Travis Roberts (Ground Control) over Daniel Gray (Loch Raven)
152 Pounds: Maiwak Dagoot (Down Under) over Robert Vionet (Frederick Fight Club)
152 Pounds: Sam Williams (Dream Team) RSC-3 over Jacob Amegah (Hillcrest)
152 Pounds: Joseph Perez (Loch Raven) over Eaton Criado (Frederick Fight Club)
152 Pounds: Devin Wallace (Hillcrest) over Derrick White (Old School)
165 Pounds: Maurice Mitchell (Old School) over Darren Brown (Keystone)
165 Pounds: Jeremy Trussell (Upton) over Paul Yohn (Ground Control)
165 Pounds: Tim Anderson (No Xcuse) over Keith Samuels (RPH Boxing Academy)
201+ Pounds: Clinton Price, Jr. (Midtown) RSC-2 over Angel Maldonado (Down Under)
Three more championships were decided in the ring in the Junior Division. Kyron Curry of UMAR won the 9 year old, 65 Pound division by decision over Langdon's Salvador Escamilla. Jashim Snyder of Down Under captured the 10-11, 100-pound class with a win over Keith Cooke of Old School. In the 14-15, 125 pound division, Lamont Roach, Jr. of No Xcuse captured the title by RSC-1 over Phillip Poopolo, III of Loch Raven.
One other championship was won by walkover. Deonte Washington of Diamonds N Da Ruff captured the 12-year-old, 95-pound title over Demario Corley of Kenilworth. There was one other bout in the Junior Division. Malik Jackson of Limelite advanced in the 15-16, 119-pound class with a win over Zackary Curry of UMAR.
The Quarterfinals will be on Saturday, March 12 at the Sugar Ray Leonard Center beginning at 7:30. The results from next week's action may not come as quickly here because I will be at the Patriot Center next Saturday, where we will be blogging live.
