On the off-TV undercard of the ESPN show in Primm, NV, Capitol Heights, MD featherweight Gary Russell, Jr. needed just 28 seconds to defeat Jason Jones of Kansas City, MO.
With the win, Russell remains undefeated at 4-0, two KO's. Jones is 2-3, one KO.

i'll be glad when this kid gets more tv time.
Just my opinion, but I think, in this case, Russell was not on TV as a backlash to what happened to him in Beijing.
On a night where ESPN was honoring the 25th anniversary of the 1984 Olympic team and Andre Dirrell was in the audience watching his brother fight, I thought they might put him on because he made the 2008 Olympic team.
I think ESPN did not want to deal with the story this time around (even though Teddy Atlas was in Beijing during that period) and didn't put him on the telecast.
I hope that won't happen again, but it wouldn't surprise me if it does, unfortunately.

Gary is a pro now...he's 4-0. It's time he gets some respect. He has a great future ahead of him. Congrats to Gary!!
what makes you think he's not getting respect?
Gary has been on national TV twice already in his 4 fight career. He has fought all over the country on great cards. What are you talking about more TV time and more respect? Maybe he wasn't on the ESPN card because he hadn't fought in a little while and wanted to get back in the groove in a non-televised bout.
That could be the case, but knowing how TV likes to work in trends and themes and since it was an Olympic theme going on that night, I thought Russell could have been a part of that and was curious as to why he wasn't.
By the way, the first time Russell was on national TV was still as an amateur.
