Here are the pro AND amateur results from an outstanding night of boxing in front of a raucous, sellout, standing-room-only crowd of more than 800 at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.
Riverdale, MD heavyweight Horace "The Reason" Grant won by four-round unanimous decision over Mujaheed Moore of Cleveland, OH. Grant knocked down Moore in the first round but struggled down the stretch. Moore lost a point in the third round for holding. Grant is 6-1, four KO's. Moore is 4-2-1, three, KO's.
Seven-foot tall heavyweight Samson "Zeus" Mazyck of DC scored a crushing second-round knockout over Wilmington, DE's Jamal Terry. In the first round, Mazyck hit Terry with the very first punch he threw (a left hand) and dropped him. Terry fought back gamely, but the bout ended early in the second round when Mazyck landed a brutal left hand that put Terry away at 19 seconds of the round.
Mazyck is 6-0, four KO's while Terry is 3-7, two KO's.
Capitol Heights, MD featherweight Thomas "KO" Snow remained undefeated by making short work of Markel Muhammad of Columbus, OH. Snow knocked Muhammad down three times en route to a first-round TKO at 1:30. Snow is now 9-0, seven KO's. Muhammad is 2-5.
In a Beltway Fight of the Year candidate, Marlow Heights, MD welterweight Norman Allen won a four-round unanimous decision over Kendrik Walker of DC. Both men were making their pro debuts and they battled tooth and nail for the entire bout. The second round of this contest may be the best single round fought in the entire area this year.
In the first bout on the pro portion of the card, Oxon Hill, MD light heavy Alexander Johnson won by first-round TKO over Ed Edwards of Wilson, NC. The knockout was a controversial one because some ringside observers thought Johnson hit Edwards with either a headbutt or an elbow. The Maryland State Athletic Commission saw a video replay of the bout from a camera belonging to a relative of Johnson's that showed it was indeed a punch that landed. Give credit to the commission for taking time to make sure the correct call was made. Edwards's record is now 0-2.
On the amateur side of the card, DC heavyweight "The African Warrior" Abodurin Akinyanju of the Sugar Ray Leonard Gym scored a decision win over Brandywine, MD's Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell of Old School Boxing Gym.
Akinyanju, who is ranked second in the country by USA Boxing, scored a standing eight count on Mitchell in the second round. Momentum seemed to shift at that point and Akinyanju went on to victory. Akinyanju will now prepare for the Olympic Trials later this month in Houston, TX.
Old School's Dusty Harrison, fresh off his National Junior Golden Gloves victory in Nevada, won a convincing decision over Joseph Leon of the Bronx, NY. All the amateur winners won belts presented by Tony "The Tiger" Thompson. In the classiest move of the night, Harrison gave his belt to Leon after their match.
Also on the amateur card, Gary Antonio Russell -- the youngest of the Russell Family -- won by decision over Keystone Boxing's Roland Moss. Joshua Davis of Laurel Boxing won by decision over Old School's Rock Warden and Tyquan Mims of Hillcrest Boxing defeated Keystone's Gregory Ross .
There is a lot of audio for this card.

Snow sucks!!
Seems like it was a good night for the Beltway guys! I wanna see "Zeus" fight sometimes. Digital, do you think he can actually fight, or is just so dominant because of his height (or both)?
I think Mazyck is a work in progress still. He will intimidate guys because of his size.
But what Jamal Terry did was something Zeus will have to guard against -- letting smaller guys (of course, ninety percent of the people he'll face will be smaller) get inside and beat him up. Terry did that late in the first round.
Mazyck may have to build up a stronger chin as well. It will be fun to watch him, though.
HEY GARY who can i call to get a fight with Zues... the peoples champ j felton will chop that tree down... i got experience now and even though i got more than 6 losses in 4 round bouts... at least six losses could of went either way.. but no excuses i am ready now.. lets put it that way.. 2 all u managers that think you got a easy win PLEASE CALL ME NOW... YOU WILL PAY 4 IT TWICE...
Lovell Long is Zeus's manager. Get in touch with him, Jonathan.
That would be an interesting matchup.
Without Question, that was the best damn show I have ever been to in my life. Great fights, great food, beautiful women, just a perfect night. Amature bouts were as good as the pros. I can hardly wait for the next show there. How about the 13 year old giving his belt the other kid after he had won. It had my sister in tears and she is usually a big Bitch. Allen VS Walker could easly get 4 rounder fight of the year award.
Sith Mitchel will be ok, he just needs to go back to the drawing board. I could hear his corner telling him to box, however, Sith did not listen to good and his cornern really let him have it. I was 2 feet away from the action and it was something to see and hear. Sith needs to drop down to heavyweight instead of super heavy. Those guys are just too big and strong for him right now.
Thomas KO Snow needs to fight someone who can box. I always see him fighting guys who can hardly breath. What a Joke! That reminds me, that 7 foot joker almost got knocked out himself earlier in the round. But he is fun to watch and I would like to see the human tree again soon. The ring girls were fat as all out doors-I love it.
Tony Thompson handing out belts that he purchased with his own money-that was cool too.
Why can't all shows go as smoothly as that one. I know one thing, Rosecroft out did any boxing show that Baltimore has ever did.
Congadulation to the kids.
Hillcrest mims
Antoine Rushel
Dusty Harrison
Josh Davis
Africa War Lord
I hope you all fight again soon.
I will be there. That was the best $40.00 I have ever spent, Well second best, I spent $40 on a young lady one time when I was 16, and I married her 10 years later.
I would love to purchase a tape of that show. Please contact me if you know where I can get one.
I would like to buy the entire show, not one bout for $33.00 from the so called Juice. I want the whote night, ring girls and all.
Ashford...I think that is the best post I have ever seen on this blog, and I echo your enthusiasm and praise for team Keystone/Rosecroft! Someone brought out the chemistry set, tried a little of this-n-that, and came back to the drawing board remixed it and voila! Everyone had a fan-frickin-tabulous time! History was made,Happy B-Day Keystone...One helluva celebration! I too want a tape! Where can we buy? Rudy??????
Linda, I too think the show was great. I also think you looked terrific. Like I told you last night, you are more than welcome stop by my gym amd take all the pictures you like. Keep up the good work, we need people like you around more often.
yeah linda, u do like hot...
look hot
Gene you did alright, the amatures and pros. everyone was happy...
#1 show yet to hit DC area!
Seth was exposed as a fraud.
Old School, I can't make a blog smilie...big enough!...I am a little ant in the sweet science cuttin' my baby teeth and every day just blown away by all the talent and heart that is poured into each fight with bs&t's from everyone involved. Will talk to ya soon.
on that Snow interview with Gary, he said he will fight all comers. All comers? meaning, anyone at jr feather weight? or anyone who has less than .500 records? or even at .300 records? Is he willing to step up and fight somebody who can throw punches back? Bottom line is, Snow has some talent but no balls ! He is a coward. All talk, but cant and will not back it up period!
Snow is scared, but he is dealing with his problems-ok. leave the man alone. We all have issues in our lives.
Scared
No balls
Oh shit
Wimp
Dear Sith, if you would like a rematch with Bo, that can be done now with ease. You are now an open class boxer since you lost to Bo.
Bo trains here every morning like clock-work, so I suggest you get a few more fights under your belt for taking on such a hard task as BO. Next time Bo will box for real, he was instructed to take it light on you and he did just that.
WE TOOK OLD SCHOOL TO SCHOOL!!!!!!
Bubby should think about changing the name of the gym. L.M.F.A.O.
All that talk, but can hardly walk...
I have watched that tape several times. Yes Bo had him moments, but he clearly lost that fight. Seth Mitchell won that bout. Seth will not leave it in the judges hands next time, you can bet your house on it.
Looks like a pro-am show is the way to go. perfect night for everyone
Good job Gene
REMATCH?????
Seth was robbed without a gun
yeah right
I demand a rematch between Sith & Bo. Sith won that fight hands down. The judges must have been drunk. When r they gonna fight again? Is Sith still turning pro or what? I hope to see the rematch first.
You must have been drunk yourself!
Rematch can be held September 8th. with Bo's belt on the line. Just call me (Jenkins) 301-386-5888 and we can make it happen.
Trust me, Seth will be back stronger, quicker and better than ever. He has the right man behind him in Shareef Davis.
Mr. Davis and his brother Adrian Davis will have Seth Mitchell a title sometime in 2009. He did win that fight against Bo at Rosecroft; I seen it from two feet away-I know.
Best Venue Yet-Ever!
i agree 100%
I would have paid $100 to see that show. It was un-real. The amatures were just as entertaining as the pros if not better. It seemed the most of the crowd was there to see the amatures anyway. I wish they had a show there every friday night, if so, I know where I would be...
u got that right
A+ show
Well put together show-Top flight amatures along with upcoming pros. smart idea. The crowd said it all!!!@
Definitely a great show. Most of the shows in the area are good as well. Please come out and support as much as you can so more shows will come. I love the Pro-am show and hope they continue.
As for the card.
I have been attending these shows for a while and the best fighter I've seen so far was the amateur Dusty Harrison. That kid has a bright bright future. I was thoroughly impressed to see a kid that young with that much poise and composure. I look forward to seeing him in the future.
I really like Thomas Snow but I agree they have to step up the competition a little. I think people have been too hard on him. These early fights are similar to any up and coming fighter. They try to build your record and confidence before stepping up the competition. I think he had a quality fight last December against a tough but limited fighter that took him to the late rounds. I realize he was coming off an injury and didn't want to risk anything but the guy they put him in with was a step in the wrong direction. They have to match him up with guys that will test different parts of his game. This guy didn't help him with anything. Hopefully he can stay busy and get right back out there. I think some of the blame should be put on his handlers.
The Allen/Walker fight was exciting and evenly matched fight. Good job by the matchmakers on that one.
Good job by Keystone and the fans. Great support for the fight. Let's come out to support all the DC shows.
great card, dusty harrison was really fun to watch. would like to see more competion for snow!!!
Just wait until u see Jake's show in Ocean City. U guys anit seen nothin yet!
nothing will top Rosecroft ever! There will never be another show like that again. Everything went perfect.
I went to work today, and I heard nothing but talk of the Rosecroft fights. It seems like everyone enjoyed themselves. My hat is off to the people who made that happen. Please do it again soon.
I hear people talk about Thomas Snow let me tell you that man has hard times getting fights espically at his weight which is 118 not 126 not 130 and he takes the fights, but no one comments on that he does not even have 12 fights and you are talking about stepping up, look at other good and great fighters at 12 fights they have not stepped up, and scared any real man/woman/boxer knows that to step in that squared circle fear is none, that man has great skills and is being moved like any other champion "NOW" but in previous fights had to drvie hisself to fights out of town, beg to get on fight cards NO THE MAN BEFORE YOU JUDGE THE MAN. THATS ANY MAN. And MOST people that are talking wont even make his weight to fight him. PEACE
How was "Sith" exposed as a fraud and did you tell him what you thought before or after you asked for his autograph? If he didn't win that fight, I don't know who did. All of that is in the past though and my only concern with these comments are the misspellings or intentional insults concerning his name. It's Seth-Mayhem- Mitchell. Trust me, you'll be hearing it quite often in the near future.
I think Dusty Harrison is an exceptional amatuer boxer with plenty of potential, however, I was not impressed with him last Friday night. He should have punished Shawn Simpson; especially having a height and weight avantage over the lil youngin.
I have been personally following Jamal Terry's professional boxing career for a number of years. His record does NOT truly reflect his skillset. He is not afraid to take on ONLY top opponents. His philosophy is that "...you must fight the best to be the best!".
Unfortunately, the last 3 fights that Jamal Terry fought, he was admittedly overweight without adequate training &/or endurance. However, in the first round of this fight, which, by the way, he did NOT know that he would be facing a 7 foot "monster" with incredible reach & weight advantage, he ALMOST knocked his opponent out! He lost this fight DUE TO AN ILLEGAL BACK-OF-THE-HEAD BLOW INFLICTED BY HIS OPPONENT WHICH THE REFEREE DID NOT CATCH/MISSED (or ignored).
No matter what his condition, he has one of the best jabs by ANY heavyweight, having been told as much by Larry Holmes, also an ex-world champion with a signature jab also!
In the future, Jamal WILL be in better shape both weight-wise & endurance-wise. He has trained with Michael Spinks, the ex-world heavyweight champion & Hall of Famer and also with former world champion Bruce Seldon and other notables. I don't mind truthfully stating that if he were NOT overweight, I feel that he could be an INCREDIBLY entertaining & successful professional boxer.
I truly believe that he has the skills to advance to a much higher level and succeed very well IF given the chance!
WHERE IS HE NOW? He is currently working out in Philadelphia gyms and others in attempting to achieve his goals of better endurance and lower weight, etc. He is also currently being "fine-tuned" by Michael Spinks, giving him tips & basic instructions. WATCH OUT!!!!!
As a note to show his dedication in meeting his goals, he has now dropped to 270 lbs from his previous fighting weight of 312. This should make his endurance MUCH MO' better as well as his ability therefore to have adequate time to feel out his opponent & develop the appropriate strategy for beating that indivual.
I'll keep you informed TRUTHFULLY (meaning NO LOW BLOWS by other people posting UNTRUTHS).
THE MAN CAN FIGHT!!!!!!
I wish to pass on thanks to Gary "Digital" Williams, the ring announcer at the time, for his positive comments about Jamal in these bouts.
KEEP WATCHING FOR NOT ONLY UPDATES BUT ALSO THE RESULTS OF HIS PROGRESS IN THE RING!
Thanks for being interested & offering your support.
