'King James' Headlines at BXF on Oct. 7!

Landover, MD super middleweight "King" James McAllister will headline a four-bout professional portion of a pro-am card on Friday, Oct. 7 at the Boxing Xtreme Fitness (BXF) Gym in Millersville, MD.

McAllister (9-5-1, three KO's) has not been in action since November 2004 when he lost a six-round majority decision to Carlos DeLeon Jr. in Las Vegas. McAllister will face Dhafir "No Fear" Smith (13-11-2, three KO's) of Upper Darby, PA in an eight-round bout. Smith has lost his last five bouts, including an eight round unanimous decision loss to Derrick Whitley on Sept. 17 in Mansfield, MA.

The co-feature will involve two boxers who are returning after lengthy absences; middleweight Tony "Mo Better" Jeter of Columbia, MD. This will be Jeter's first bout since October 2001 when he lost a four-round unanimous decision to Kwame Bumphus in Philadelphia, PA.

Jeter(3-1, 1 NC, three KO's) will take on Lawrence Frisby of Philadelphia (3-8, two KO's) in a four-round encounter. Frisby has not fought since December 2001 when he won a six-round split decision over Tyrone Winkler in Philadelphia.

Two other four-round bouts will round out the pro part of the card; Jarell Mason Jackson of Temple Hills, MD (2-3) will battle Steve Garrett of Columbia in a four-round light heavyweight matchup. Also, James Shedrick of Philadelphia (2-3, one KO) will take on John Terry of Portsmouth, VA (1-1, one KO) in a four round super middleweight encounter.

Four amateur bouts are also scheduled for the card.

I WATCHED KING JAMES SPAR 9 STRAIGHT ROUNDS LAST NIGHT AT OLD SCHOOL BOXING IN CLINTON MARYLAND. HE SPARRED WITH 4 DIFFERENT PROS. EACH OF THEM WEIGHING MORE THAN HIM. HE LOOKED TO BE IN TERRIFIC SHAPE. I TRULY FEEL SORRY FOR THE GUY HE IS SCHEDULED TO FIGHT THIS COMING FRIDAY. GOOD LUCK JAMES...

Glad to hear that King James is training hard. I thought he had a few bad decisions before. I though he beat Andrew Council right here in washington DC. What is the exact address of Old School Boxing. I would love to stop by and watch. I hear they have sparring matches on a nightly basis that is much better than the local shows. Does anyone know where they are located at in Clinton Maryland? Is it an amature and professional traing gym or just pro? Felmin Hughs

James is one of the true good guys in this business. Hopefully, he will do well on Friday.

I will do some checking on Old School Boxing in Clinton. A couple of posters mentioned that, but I had not heard of the gym until recently.

Old School Boxing has definately heated up recently. With Round One Gym shut down, Adrian Davis is temporarily training his fighters there which has made for some hellatious sparring matches. Aside from King James, I have personally seen some wars up there involving a suberb young 178 lb. amateur named Dominick, a white kid named Nick, Mike Sawyer, and numerous other pros whose names I don't remember at this time. I will try to remember the name of the road where Old School Boxing is located.

I drove from Baltimore last night with 3 young boxers to get work at OLD School. I swear I have never seen so much sparring in my life. I think the gym needs two rings and a bigger place. It truly looks like Old School Boxing is trying or should I say has taken over the boxing scene in the DC metro area.
Adrian Davis was there helping out and now I see how that guy stays in such good shape. He moves around like a damn 20 year old.
I also see an old favorite of mind William Flip Johnson. He had a line waiting for him just to get mit-work. Some of these kids were not even born when he was fighting. I wonder if they even know how good of fighter he was back in the day. Tonight I will be going back up Old School Boxing to take some pictures. Gary Im going to send you a few of the ole timers that you know well.

There is a website called Fightfinders.com that someone just turned me on to. It is trying to do for amateur boxing what I am trying to do for pros in the area.

One aspect the site does have is it has great photos. A number of the pictures are done by a wonderful lady named Janet Nash.

The website is www.fightfinders.com

I recommend it highly!

Hey Gary, great site. I met you at the Jimmy Lange fight. I've been reading the blogger for awhile and it looks like people are starting to catch on, congradulations! For the last year I have been really getting into the local seen, but have always been a huge boxing fan. Having fought a few times in FL as a kid and being from a family full of boxing fanatics, I know boxing and I'm here to say that the DC has as much talent as anywhere. Good to see the VA boys getting some exposure as well.
Keep up the good work,
Bill M.

I hear that Old School Boxing gives out free T-shirts with OLD SCHOOL BOXING printed on them. Do you have a phone number or an address for them? I seen some people wearing the shirts at the BFX and they look pretty awsome. Rimind me of the Oakland Raiders.
I would love to have one for me and my girlfriend. Yeldin Yorga

Hey Gary, thanks for the address to Old School Boxing. I stopped up there early saturday morning. A few pros were training for a fight that is going on in Waldorf Maryland friday october 14th. The owner of the gym gave me 2 free T-Shirts. The shirts are great! They are all black with Silver writing on them. I think I just might wear mine to the fights this friday in Waldorf. By the way Gary, will you be there?

I am going to try to get out there. The problem is that the day is also the start of the college basketball practice season and the school I work for is scheduled to have Midnight Madness that evening.

I hope I can make it to the show, though. As soon as I find out about the card, I will let you know the details.
