Lamont Peterson has successfully defended his IBF Junior Welterweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over a game Dierry Jean.
After a relatively close four rounds, it seemed as if Peterson felt Jean couldn't hurt him. At round five, Peterson picked up the pace that would eventually lead him to victory.
The scores were:
Pasquale Procopio 115-113
Michael Ancona 118-111
Samuel Conde 116-112.
Peterson is now 32-2-1, 21 KO's while Jean suffers his first pro loss and is now 25-1, 17 KO's. A crowd of 5,668 saw the card.
It has been quite a night. Good night from DC!

No Washington, DC judges? Who made the final decision on this?
If the commission has the final say, how does this happen?
Never seen a major fight without one local judge or referee.
You knew after the Khan fight that a local ref was out of the question. The better question might be why there was a judge from Montreal and not one local judge. Procopio was from Canada and he had the closest score.

Who makes the final decision on judges?
Usually at least one judge from local jurisdiction. What happened?
It shouldn't matter who judged the fight L.p. won hands down.
I think Malik Waleed did a good job reffing his fight. I see a lot of quick stoppages at the local shows but I had a sense that with better quality fighters the refs would let them go longer.
Gary who do you think Lamont end up with next? Sounded like they are steering towards Danny Garcia . I think he is supposed to fight in April. Is that too quick of a turnaround for Lamont ?
I'd be surprised if it was that soon. That seems to be too quick. To answer the question about the officials. In a world title situation, usually it's the sanctioning body that chooses the referee and the judges. Each camp can question if need be but the sanctioning body has the final say.
Actually April will be good being as though Lamont like to stay busy...also considering there were no cuts in this fight.

I agree with Lamont I think his style matches up better with Garcia. If Lamont can steal a round or two in the first 4 rounds I think he beats Garcia. Garcia always breaks down late in fights
Gary, I believe that the local boxing commission has the final decision on the referee and judges for ALL bouts. Sanctioning bodies can ONLY make recommendations which a boxing commission takes into consideration. I understand that this Federal boxing law.
