The head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission says that WBA/IBF champion Lamont Peterson has admitted to taking a banned substance which showed up in a recent random drug test. As of right now, there is no official word on the status of the May 19 rematch between Peterson and Amir Khan. A decision on this could come in the next 48 hours.
NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer told ESPN.com that Peterson's attorney, Jeff Fried said Peterson took testosterone pellets late last year -- before his Dec. 10 fight with
Khan -- on the recommendation of a doctor because Peterson had low
testosterone levels.
The tests that came back positive came after a random drug test in March. Both Peterson's A and B sample were positive. This could mean that Peterson could lose his license in Nevada which would cause the fight to be cancelled. Also, lawsuits from the Khan camp could come into play and the IBF and WBA could strip Peterson of the titles and give them back to Khan.

If he was taking the testosterone pellets before the Dec 10th fight, why didn't it show up in pre-post fight drug testing? Were those tests not done? Another issue tarnishing his win.
I dount that DC tyests for testosterone.
Wow Gary, I can't even explain how disappointing this news is to the DMV. We had so much to look for and were still riding the high from the first fight.

Man this is depressing stuff. He'll be lucky to ever get another chance at this level. I'm guessing he's looking at a 6-12 month ban, at which point he'll be back to fighting for $10k. Even if he keeps winning, he's always going to have the steroids stigma attached to him now. This went from best D.C. sports story in years to the worst D.C. sports story in years. Very, very sad.
