I've covered the Boxing scene in the Washington, DC/Baltimore area for 36 years. I was inducted into the Washington, DC Boxing Hall of Fame in November, 2009. Khan lost...Home cookin' absolutely crazy. What say you
Wow! This blog/comments called it earlier in the week that the hometown ref would be controversial... good fight and sucks it came down to the penalties... But the pushing looked flagrant and Khan was putting him in a headlock all the time... Beltway Boxin' is alive... Represent and Rematch!!!!
While I wouldn't go as far as calling it home cookin', the perception of having a hometown ref with hometown fighter for a world title fight is not a good one. When the hometown ref's point deductions are the margin of victory, it begs for claims of bias. Why even risk that perception?
