Former USBA Cruiserweight champion Emmanuel "Chukwu" Nwodo will make his return to action on Saturday, October 8 on the Diva-Rize-N promotions card at the DC Star Nightclub in DC.
Nwodo, a native of Nigeria who has lived in the Beltway region for a number of years, has not fought since winning by first-round TKO in Lynchburg, VA over Lenzie Morgan in August of 2009.
Nwodo (23-5, 19 KO's) will battle veteran Gary Lavender of Pine Level, NC (8-15, seven KO's) in a six-round contest.
Promoter "The Boxing Diva" Renee Aiken says the card will also promote Breast Cancer Awareness. Boxers Thomas "KO" Snow and former world champion O'Neil Bell will wear special pink gloves during their bouts which will be autographed and raffled off after the card. Proceeds from the raffle will go to both The Breast Cancer Foundation and The Susan G. Komen Global Race For the Cure.

Renee Aiken is a fraud. All she does it blow hot air about making good competitive fights. I hope her license gets pulled. By far the worst beltway promoter.

The worst promoter and a good matchmaker setting up losses for people. They all for themselves. And the comment with the $500, I say all boxers boycot now less that$700 regardless if their bums or not. At the end of the day its the boxers that get KO'd is the one that gets hurt not the promoter nor matchmaker. Their pockets get fatter. smh its a shame this card is so worthless.
There aren't too many promoters with fat pockets in boxing 'round these parts unless they make money in some other profession like I do. You know how to make a million dollars in boxing? Start with two million dollars that's how! Look, nobody wants to see anybody get seriously hurt (at least I don't) but nobody is making a fighter step between those ropes and fight. Boxing is capitalism in an almost pure sense. If the only fight you can get pays $500 and you want to fight, then that may be your only opportunity to fight. Promoters are so heavily regulated and hit with fees, taxes, licensing, etc. that unless you're drawing at least 1,500 in a reasonably priced venue then you're not making any real money. And if you're not making any money does it make sense as a businessman to continue? No! Most fighters that I have dealt with aren't greedy, they want to fight and they want to get paid a fair amount. I don't look at the Promoter/Fighter relationship as adversarial, I look at it as a partnership. It's a tough game no doubt. Second place is pretty good in most sports but you don't want to be second in a boxing match, that's for sure. Most promoters have respect for the sport of boxing and the boxers who compete. A promoter could pay more money if a boxing commission would be more reasonable on their fees. When you promote a show and about half of your total expenses on a show are related to commission expenses, then something is wrong. Talk about pockets getting fatter, it's not the promoters, it's not the boxers, but the commission ALWAYS makes money on a show. Look in our area of Virginia, Maryland, and DC and ask yourself who is a boxer that competes in the area that makes a full time living off of boxing? Maybe one, Jimmy Lange. How about a full time Manager? Any of those making a living off of being a Manager in the Beltway area? Nope. How about Promoting? Are there any beltway area promoters that make a full time living from being a boxing promoter? Again no. Now how about the position of boxing commissioner. The last I checked there were three full time boxing commissioners in DC, MD, and VA. Now who's making money off of boxing in this area? Boxers? No! Promoters! No! Boxing Commissioners? - Yes! What's wrong with this picture?
