Four more Beltway amateurs were eliminated from competition on Tuesday at the Men's US Olympic Trials in Mobile, AL. All four lost by very close margins in the Challenger's bracket.
In the 108-pound class, Greg Outlaw lost a 15-11 decision to David Carlton of Cincinnati, OH.
The toughest loss was suffered by 2011 National Golden Gloves champion Michael Reed, who fell to George Rincon of Carrollton, TX via punch-count stats 23-23 (110-108) in the 141-pound class.
D'Mitrius Ballard is also out of the competition, losing in the 165-pound division to Edgar Alvarado of San Bernadino, CA, 26-24.
And the surprising ride of Shaborn Ryals is over as well as Ryals fell in the 178-pound class to Jeffrey Spencer of Fort Carson, CO, 12-11.
This leaves just Antoine Douglas (165)and Jerry Odom (178) remaining in the competition. Both are still in the Winner's Bracket.
Meanwhile, competition for locals got underway in the US Junior Olympics, also being held in Mobile. Four Beltway amateurs won their opening round matches.
At 114 Pounds, Gary Antuanne Russell of Capitol Heights, MD won a 24-11 decision over Marco Ojeda of Fort Walton Beach, FL.
119-pounder Joshua McKoy of Laurel, MD defeated E'Kearn Perro of Carenco, LA, 16-8.
Gervonta Davis of Baltimore won his first bout in the 125-pound class, defeating Jason Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM, 15-10.
And 176-pounder Daquan Johnson of Capitol Heights moved into the second round with a 23-21 decision over DeMarkus Manter of Akron, OH.

The event is called the Olympic Team Trials because it determines the TEAM for the U.S. Because there are only a certain number of slots available for each weight class in the Olympics, AIBA weeds the numbers down by having three qualifiers before you can even go to the Olympics. The World Championships is the first, I don't know where the other two will be held - probably somewhere on the American Continent. The IOC is the body who determines the number of athletes and non-athletes allowed in each sport.
Just so you know, they have changed the format this year. It was announced on the first day. The winner of this tournament will go to Baku for the World Championship which is the first Olympic Qualifier. If that boxer fails to place in the top 8, then NEXT year's USA Champion will be allowed to try to qualify at the next qualifier. Yes, that is unprecedented and probably will result in legal attempts to fight it, but that is what they have said and what they plan to do. In the past the winner of the trials has had multiple opportunities to qualify for the Olympics, but not this year. Like I said only coaches and attendees here in Mobile can tell you this because it wasn't published, but you can verify by asking anyone else that is here.

USA Boxing has lied to all of these young men. They were under the impression that if they win in the so called Olympic trials, they would represent the USA in 2012 Olympics. Now they are all finding out that even if they win this week, they have to win two more tournaments to reach their goal. I would not be surprised if they all return home and turn professional. (Even if they were to win here in Alabama) Usa boxing knew damn well what was going on the entire time and the purposely failed to give details of the total process. We cannot blame VA or PVA or SAA for not informing out boxers. They too wre not told the truth. Several lawyers reprenting some Ca. boxers up here are alreadly heavenly involved. USA Boxing is in HOT-WATER! I have personaly seen three high profile pro boxing managers down here scouting these young men. I just hope they are getting decent offers, these young men have been tricked enough and the last thing they need is too get a raw deal by a crooked promoter or manager. Everyone agrees that 2008 was the worst boxing team in USA history, well folks 2012 will be a disaster. They have already cheated several boxers locally who clearly won. I did manage to video a few minutes of each bout that will be on youtube in a few days, but I now wish I would have videoed the judges instead. They had their favorites and so far 3 of our locals were robbed. 2 of them were so clear that people started to walk away thinking they knew who the winner was only to hear different on the anoucment. One coach and uncle of a kid from PA admits that he was shocked to hear that his kid won. The whole damn thing is ass-backwards. USA BOXING SUCKS!!!
