This was the first time i've seen either fighter fight, it was worth staying for. Chase Sheids was great, especilly for being the big UNDERDOG!!!!!!!!He should be proud of himself for coming to va. and putting such a good show and earning the title, well deserved!!!!
Chase Shields was a perfect fit for Jimmy as an opponent. A white kid who has played the same role as Jimmy in his home town; ie. a fighter with middling skills who puts asses in the seats and will not fight anyone that really fight. Because they have each chosen the same career path, this is a match made in heaven (or hell if you prefer to watch quality fighters). So now Lange should go to Houston for the rematch and then come back here. They really could go on and on together.
No - he won't go to Houston b/c Shields can make more money in Fairfax than he could in Houston. Plus, Texas is not a fair boxing commission like VA. If the fight were in TX last night and the roles were reversed and Lange had won 7 rounds and dropped Shields twice, he STILL would have lost in TX. The judges would have found a way to screw him. But in VA, my hat is off to them really because Lange is by far the biggest money maker the VA Boxing Commission has, they called it the way they should have, fairly and honestly. Let's just hope that with a bunch of VA fighters going to Maryland on March 20th that they get the same fair and honest treatment that the VA commission showed an out of towner in Chase Shields. Fair and honest, that's the way it should be.
you gotta give credit to shields, he fought well early, lange picked it up in the middle and seemed to take control. then the power went out.after that 10 minute break shields recovered and fought great. To Langes credit that 11 round survival showed his toughness. He was badly hurt in the 11. He came out aggressive in the 12 but needed a tleast a a knockdown to make it interesting on the scorecards i felt. Personally, the bottom line of this fight was lange would not let his hands go. Hardly any rights or left hooks. His punches seemed to lack anything on them and he was allowing sheilds to get inside and work from HIS distance. Lange did put in serious body work on shields but that was all before the power went out and really seemed to have no effect on him after that fucking 10 minute break. IM not making excuses . Shields won fair and square. He deserved it. I give those judges alotta credit handling that situation with the lights and making the right desicion. I think they should fight in Texas soon or fuck it fight back.. At least shields knows hes gonna get a fair shake. Good show
Excellent above point suggesting that the Langes think twice about a Texas rematch.
Two summers ago I saw the Texas commission in action when (former) Beltway boxer Perry Ballard took on Hector "Macho" Camacho.
While the fight didn't last long enough for the judging to become an issue, I got a first-hand look at some of the shenanagans that go on there.
Ring announcer Henry "Discombobulating" Jones and I did a BATB guest GabCast from Houston where we talked about it: http://boxingalongthebeltway.blogspot.com/2008/07/camacho-stops-ballard-in-seventh-round.html
During the Lange/Shields fight I sat next to a Boxing reporter who was covering his first fight in Virginia. He said, "With as much of a hometown following as Jimmy Lange has, Shields pretty much has to score a KO to overcome the scoring bias, right?"
I told him that from what I had seen in the past, Virginia has a good athletic commission and a stable of judges who are fair and knowlegable. (Of course I haven't always agreed with the outcomes, but I haven't seen any patterns of regional bias.)
In Jimmy Lange's case, the fact that the first Cabell fight was called a draw, and that all three judges had him behind by FOUR points against Shields, is strong evidence against hometown favoritism.
I agree in spades with the above poster. Just because Shields had at least an even playing field when he visited Virginia is no reason to expect the favor to be returned in Texas.
Someone and we all know who keeps comparing Bayan Jargal to Andrew Farmer in an effort to promote Bayan by downplaying Andrew. Lets take a look at the opponets last saturday night.Bayans Opponet had a record of 21-44 and had won one of his last twelve fights against a guy that was 4-17.out of those last twelve fights Leija has been knocked out 8 of the twelve losses. This is obviously not comparative to the fighter Andrew fought. In the beginning everybody gets a few soft opponets but We fight competative fighters not Bums like this. You can't fool people on here everyone knows how to get on the computer and look at boxrec. These are the facts. Scott Farmer
Strong points, Mr. Farmer. And even stronger as you signed your name. I was impressed with Bayan's performance, and I took your comment as defending Andrew, not denegrating Bayan.
The Doo-Man got a tough break with a good shot, a nearly inevitable fallout with the relative high risk/reward ratio his opponents have had.
The flipside is that this would make a mighty exciting rematch, especially as I would still put the odds in Andrew's favor. His offensive skills are clearly there, and of those I saw keeping score on media row, all had Andrew ahead going into the fourth.
I have not and in no way am trying to degrade Bayan Jargal. He is a talent to be reckoned with and has been excellent sparring for Andrew until his handlers decided to not let him work with us anymore. This was a decision that surely hurt both fighters and severed a bond that I believe was just as important to them as it was for us.Bayan is a hard working family man that works just as hard in the gym and has all the habits and desires it takes to become something in this sport. Nothing said on this blog was meant to hurt Bayan but there is somebody who is so jealous of Andrew and his following that they can't stop trying to compare the two and ,well ,everybody knows the rest. A couple last comments. First of all congratulations to Ikeem and his team especially his trainer Robert Crawford.I have said it for a couple years now and still believe it today that Mr Crawford is one of if not the premier trainer in the beltway area.No scratch that.In the country. This is a man that knows how to get everything out of his fighters.Robert along with Ikeem have agreed to give us a rematch and we hope no one changes their mind.Last , thanks for everybody's support the night of the fight. there was a ton of people there for us so thank you again. Scott Farmer
Hats should go off to the promoters as well as all the trainers and boxers that were involved in this show, it was wonderful and provided an exciting night of fights. Boxing is one of the most grueling of sports from the training as well as putting on a show, most sports have a "season" so to speak of, not boxing, their is no set time off. These athletes are very dedicated and disaplined when it comes to training, and must be strong-willed and have alot of endurance. Some of the negativity on here about the fighters is just awful. Its nice to see some of the more positive comments. Thank you Scott and Andrew for what you have brought to this sport, matt has learned so much and greatly appreciates you both! Patti Jacobs
I would hope that Bayan's opponent Louie Leija decides to hang up the gloves, or a state commission does it for him. He has no business in the ring anymore. Did anyone else think the Jones/Batteast decision was terrible?

The rematch wont be in Houston, I guarantee! They will have a rematch and it will be in Fairfax! I guarantee!
Thats right. Lange never wnet to Reno to rematch Gilbert. Now that was an ass whupping! So Jimmy will never go to Houston.

Im still rolling off the fact that some people thought Chase Shields was going to be an easy victory for Jimmy. LMAO
Quick Question: Does Chase Shields also do MMA?? I think I heard his name before but during a MMA show somewhere

all those idiots out there that thought andrew farmer is in the same league as bayan jargal, think again.
if jargal came up in weight or lange came down, jargal would give lange fits for real.
andrew and his dad are great people but don't embarass yourself by talking crap about being in the ring with a potential elite guy.
