Two boxers were unopposed -- Lorenzo Simpson and Mack Allison, both from Upton Boxing.
The United States Marine Corps team won the Outstanding Team Award. The Outstanding Boxer Awards went to Shadeed Floyd of Langdon and Adam Mitchell of Diamond N the Ruff.

The mayor's cup was the worse event I've been to.Nothing was on time,no organization,rules were broken,I had an open bout that went 3 2 minute rounds, no offical told me or my coach of the change until the end of the third round.

Nat Williams was paid $8,600 to help with that show and he pocketed $8,000 of it.
Furthermore, Gene Hughs is a lying disrepectful fool. The Mayor's Cup is done. That was the last of it there folks. Nat Williams and Gene Hughs have ruined it forever.
They should lock them both up and force them to be cell-mates.
Keely Thompson would not even stole that much from the kids.
I wasted my damn day going to that event. What a joke, a total emmbarrassment to us all. North Carolina will never return to DC again for boxing. Local gym even tried to charge them to work out.

This was the worse tournament that I've been to. I respect everthing that Gene Hughes has done in the past, but I was embarrassed by his behavior this past weekend. I had a boxer that didn't even get to box, but I paid my registration fee and watched as two other boxers met for the "championship" while my boxer was left on the sideline watching. He was the same age and weight as the others. This was my first time participating in the Mayor's Cup and if I were Adrian Fenty, I would remove my name and title from this event. On Sunday, there was a breakfast/awards ceremony that was listed on the schedule (with out the venue and time), so I called around and couldn't get any of the organizers on the phone - so my boxers that did compete didn't get to attend. Does anyone know where that was held or if it was held at all?
Unless all the parties involved are removed from this event, I will not support, attend or even mention this event EVER. I don't blame NYC, NC and any other out of towners that were treatly poorly from every returning. Please don't hold this event against all DC Clubs though.
BTW, who had the nerve to try to charge guests to workout? When we went to the Silvers in GA, the Augusta Boxing Club had open gym for EVERYONE. When we went down to the Title Tournament in Memphis, the Memphis PAL made sure they opened early for participating boxers. I've never heard of such an unwelcoming action. To all the out-of-towners, please don't judge all of DC's boxing community by the actions of a few.
lady name diane would not let us workout at sugar ray boxing center unless we paid. we went another local gym and they let us work out.
my coach says it will never happen again cuz we are never coming back.

Ya'll wrong. Diane was forced by Park and Planning to make all boxers pay a "membership fee", which covers all workouts for a year. It's $35 or something like that. It's the fee for any local boxer/coach that wants to use the facility also. $35 for an entire year is ridiculously low. I understand the frustration, but they should have called first and they could have gone to any number of gyms that aren't run by MNCPPC - basically any other gym in the area.
Leave my girl Diane alone, haters. She's doing a great job. (And no, I am not affiliated with her or the SRL gym)
Diane only charges 30 a year. Other gyms charge $80.00 a month.

bike ryder - keep the rift raft out? there was never any there! how many shows have srl had under the new mangement? exactly none! and they call it a boxing center. give me a break! the new managment is no better than hinton. for the record it's a public facility and nobody has to leave if they don't want to.
Srl gym doesn't through ANY boxing shows - old management or new. It is a public facility that can be rented by anyone through MNCPPC (MD Park & planning). Call and findout fee and schedule yourself. So it's not up to the director to solicit events just run the gym. 30 or 35 for the year is less than 99% of most gyms. If u don't know that u r not in boxing.

he is not lazy and he is always at the gym. he does not sit down like the other trainers and thats why his fighters never loose.

Man the mayor's cup was some **** they need somebody else to run the show and Jose Murpry Got CHEATED He beat that **** out that boy and Gene Hughs gave Adam Mitchell an outstanding trophy for what and he got knocked down funny Mr. Hughs
