Berlin, MD middleweight "The Berlin Bomber" Joshua Snyder won a four-round majority decision over previously undefeated John "No Mercy" Mackey of Montgomery, AL (by way of DC) in front of a nationally televised ESPN2 audience at the Catholic Youth Center in Scranton, PA.
According to reports, Snyder dropped Mackey twice during the bout and went on to the victory. Two judges scored the bout 39-37 and 38-37 for Snyder and one judge saw the draw at 38-38.
Snyder's record is now 7-3, three KO's while Mackey is now 9-1, three KO's.
(Personal update): I just witnessed the bout on ESPN 360. That was a great bout. I agree with Han Kim. A rematch should happen, but it shouldn't be rushed. I also hope the promoter took Teddy Atlas's advice and gave both men bonuses. Both Snyder and Mackey fought with heart, class and talent. Both guys took solid steps in their career. Very impressive!!

We need a rematch of this one. Best 4 rounder on ESPN 2 in years. Atlas said that both fighters should get a bonus from the pormoter. Rematch it on the August 9 card in Salem, Va. Mackey is already fighting on that card.
what a fight it was! Great fight! Great performance by both guys, they each threw close to 100 punches a round. Teddy Atlas said good defense and counter punching by Mackey but that kid Snyder threw just too many punches. I really thought fight was a draw, even with 2 knock downs, Mackey was clearly winning the rounds. But that kid Snyder is a punching machine that dont get tire. He will beat alot a fighters. Snyder and Mackey should do it again but not right away after few fights later and about year later from now. I know for fact too many fights like this can ruin them as a fighter. I really like both kids and I want them to have a long succesful career. John Mackey is still my champion and I am gonna take care of that kid.

Dammit, I didn't know this was televised...Digital, don't you usually mention when a fight is televised (or taking place)?
I did mention the bout. However, it was listed as a swing bout, meaning there was no guarantee that the bout would be televised.
However, this bout was indeed talked about for the last two weeks.
If you have ESPN 360 on your computer, you will be able to see this card sometime next week.
Here's what I said back on May 31:
"Also on June 13, "The Berlin Bomber" Joshua Snyder of Berlin, MD will battle the undefeated and aforementioned John "No Mercy" Mackey of Montgomery, AL, by way of DC at the Catholic Youth Center in Scranton, PA. The two co-feature bouts on this card are scheduled to be on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights. The Snyder-Mackey bout is slated to be the main swing bout, meaning it stands at least a 50-50 chance of getting on TV.
Snyder (6-3, three KO's) has won four of his last five bouts, including a fourth-round TKO over Charles Norwood on February 23 in Winchester, VA. Mackey (9-0, three KO's) is coming off a six-round unanimous decision over Alexander Mancera on February 8 in Dover, DE."
Oh, my bad Digital.
Just a favor to ask though: the night of or before a televised fight, could you please have a reminder?
Hey Digital,
I've been having a problem sleeping lately and sometimes I oversleep for work. Can you call me tomorrow morning at 6AM and wake me up?
Thanks!
Come on ACW, get with it! Digital was all over this fight for a while now and you're always on this blog, how could you miss it?
Guess what somebody already has a signed contract from both camps now and the fight is supposed to take place on august the ninth in Roanoke Va.
It will be interesting to see how this one plays out
Man, don't get them to fight way the hell down in Roanoke. The fans around DC/B-More deserve to see these guys' rematch. At least have it on a televised card if it won't be local. ESPN would be happy to have them on the air again! What's the hurry & why on an obscure card in bumf**k?
(no offense to Scott Farmer or the promoter)
I just want to see the fight & don't have 5 hours to drive to Roanoke!

That's right! A rematch would make absolutely no sense in Roanoke! It needs to be somewhere in the Beltway area as a Main Event 8 round bout with Main Event 8 round bout money. OR - it needs to be put on ESPN with some TV money behind it. If these two camps sign to face each other in Roanoke, VA on a non-televised show for little or no money, then they seriously need to examine their business acumen for the boxing game.
How about this fight fans and critics alike.
I had an arangement with both camps before this fight they had on ESPN to fight in Roanoke on
August 9. When I received requests
from both camps to allow them to fight on the card in Scranton PA
I talked to the promoter Rick Hawkins and discussed this akward situation with him.We both agreed that it would for Snyder and Mackey to allow them to fight in PA if they had a chance at national exposure.
There was only one request on our part and that was that they would fight a rematch on our card August 9. Both camps volunteered this without me even asking.I will be talking to Hawkins tonight and we ,along with another individual
will make a decision on wether they will have to fight on our card or not.I know there will be a number of people with a heavy opinion on this matter as there always is on this blog.Try and save your opinions until we make our decision please.

Come on Bishop...is Roanoke really that far from where they fought in PA? Stop being the fan with the easy button and show some real spirit, ESP for these 2! If anyone has a hand in promoting this talent why bemoan it. I will be glad to give you a ride down.
What are you saying? Did you have a signed contract for John Mackey and Josh Snyder to fight in Roanoke? If that's the case, then they should fight in Roanoke. If that's not the case, you really don't have anything at all.
Yes I do have a signed contract
from both parties but it doesn't
matter because it was unanimous
that we don't care to have the bout
if one of the parties doesn't want to fight .
Pro Motion sports wishes JohnMackey and josh Snyder both the best.
First off, I'm a supporter & well-wisher to ALL beltway promoters, matchmakers, fighter, managers, and yes... photographers (especially you Linda!). However, I got news for you... Roanoke/Salem or wherever the hell the fight is, is not even close to DC. I respect all the dedicated VA fans that make the trip. That being said, I don't have 8+ hours to burn driving down there. That is an ENTIRE weekend dedicated to a fight. Now I've already said "No offense to Scott Farmer or the promoter" once. If they have a contract/verbal agreement or whatever than they should honor it. However, ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT BOXING (pay attention Linda... respectfully) will say that, after the exposure on ESPN, this fight makes MUCH more dollars & sense happening closer to the beltway. All of Snyder & Mackey's fans reside here, period! You know what? If they don't fight around the beltway, it should be on another ESPN card. I feel certain ESPN would love to have them back & they would pay 5-6 times the money that these two warriors would make in Roanoke. My point is:
Linda, you're defending your people but even your people know that this fight, the local fans, and most of all THE FIGHTERS will not benefit from this fight happening down in southern VA.
Just to make the point, once again. I fully support & appreciate Scott Farmer & Linda as well.
God Bless,
Bishop
Point well taken, what you say makes sense.
It makes sense that the fight isn't a draw in Roanoke but if the promoter wants to put that fight on (and it will be a great fight for the show) then that is his choice. Also, if both camps have signed for the bout then they should hold their end of the bargain and fight. Doesn't a signed contract mean anything? Scott Farmer says he has a signed contract from both parties, and if that is the case then the fight should happen. As far as ESPN paying these guys 5 to 6 times what they would make in Roanoke, I don't agree with that statement at all. First of all, ESPN doesn't pay anything to the fighters. The promoter pays. ESPN pays the promter for the show and the promoter pays the fighters. The best case scenario for Mackey vs. Snyder to make some money on ESPN would be as an 8 round co-feature underneath an ESPN type of Main Event. But, even with that fight, Snyder or Mackey wouldn't be making 5 to 6 times what they would make in Roanoke. Maybe double, maybe even triple, but certainly not 5 to 6 times more money. It's a great fight wherever it's going to be.
I agree with most of what you said last poster. If contracts are signed, then the fighters are obligated. I agree. However, with the show these guys put on last week, they "should" be allowed to fight on a bigger (or at least more local) stage. This is where some agreements & goodwill gestures should happen off the record. The ones with the most to lose are only the fighters & the fans.
Bishop
ProMotion, that's class baby. That's class.
you people love to keep on voiceing your opinion even after the promoters have gracefully allowed these guys out of the contract. But there is a couple points being overlooked. Why do some of you think that Roanoke is out in the sticks and that the guys shouldn't have fought there.
What will you have to say if the show in Roanoke draws a couple thousand people or even more.
Nobody should assume that the show
is not going to be a big one .
The card already has three fights
with undifeated fighters fighting each other. The names aren't important on this blog because you guys already said it's to far for you to travel.
Love and kisses for everyone.
The Gripster
Gripster,
You know the true fans will travel. Props to all involved for a good card coming to VA in August. Everyone would love our favs in our backyard in ESPN/HBO/SHOW lights, but it's HARD to pull off. VA MD DC keep doing what you are doing and keep striving to raise the bar. Always will be some Hits, some Misses and plain don't even pull it offs, but thank all of you for keeping our local fightfire alive.
