I ask you to hit the link and read the following article very carefully. Ringside Report.com staff writer Chris Thompson (no relation) gives a very interesting take on DC heavyweight Tony "The Tiger" Thompson, while giving five ways on how Thompson can get on the track to a world championship.
The article "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Champions," can be found here:

I don't get the recommendation. I found it to be a totally self-serving lot of baloney written by someone who thinks they know how the sport works but do not have a clue. The internet is wonderful when quality information can be spread instantly to people who are interested. In this case someone's ruminations on how they think Tony's career should be managed, is allowed to be published and spread to the world even though it is totally without merit. I only find it sad that BATB buys into this and choses to spread it further. Is there no quality control?
I did not give it a recommendation. I simply put it out there as one person's opinion. I wanted the Beltway Boxing community to make comments on this article because it concerns one of our own. That's why I asked people to read it carefully.
The fact that someone from outside the area (Chris Thompson is from Alabama) is even talking about Tony in this manner, is to me, very interesting.
In all honesty, I'm not sure I agree with everything he says either.
Is Top Rank going to consider putting Tony in with Tye Fields? Let's see now... they have been protecting him as they develop him and they have been pushing the plan for making Tye and Hasim Rahman, who is also their fighter. Why would they interject the dangerous Tony in their (who would clearly beat Fields as the astute writer as acknowledged) plans, when they have no ties to him. Clearly they are not and the suggestion, unless Tony was prepared to sign a deal with them, is ludicrous.
The rest of the story has no meaning and is just mindless journalism. Actually it is not even journalism. It is probably closer to a half drunk guy, a fan of Tony, spouting off with his buddies while they watch a big fight on tv.
So I wonder what is the point of posting this link myself. And if you have trouble agreeing with what he says, why bother. This site can be so good when you throw something up and there is decent dialogue about it.
The thing is, if you want to put forward to the audience material like this that tries to present some editorial comments on the career of a local fighter, or comments about what is going on in the sport, let me suggest another idea.
Clearly, when you read the comments on the blog, you can seperate out the trash talking and arguing from the solid comments that some of the people in our community make on a regular basis.
And since the Beltway has been a resource for quality boxers, trainers, promoters, administrators etc. over the years, why not start a weekly or a monthly or whatever column by some of these folks. Allow them to speak either of their histories or stories or about current items of interest and just try and avoid blatant shilling of an up and coming event or an up and coming fighter.
Some people who it would be great to hear them reminisce would be Gilbert Ware,Stuart Satowsky,Adrian Davis, JD Brown and lets hear something from Joe Hensley as to his early days in the sport and how he got started, or Keith Holmes and Joppy and what it was like going from the amateurs to the pros. we are blessed by having some very rich history here, maybe a series like this should begin with a real dialogue with Sugar Ray about his early days fighting out of the area.
My point is I would rather hear real comments by Beltway figures that have some meaning to the boxing communities history then the blatherings of some guy who just runs his mouth about something that he clearly has no clue.
It was not meant to be journalism. It was an editorial. This was just one person's opinion.
Obviously, Ringside Report decided that it was worth noting and the person who runs Ringside Report happens to be a local guy.
This was just put out there to get people's opinions on it, no more, no less.
Gary-this your site! You can put whatever you like on here, in fact, I am glad you put that story on here. I enjoyed reading it. Keep up the good work and never let Chris ruin your day like has has done to so many others.
Of course Gary can put anything up that is his site. I just found the article to be completely useless and filled with the sort of misguided advice that is prevalent in the sport. Therefore, my suggestion was, why pass that sort of hogwash on when there are so many more interesting sources of information around the Beltway who it would be interesting to hear from.
Chris,
Don't you have some fighters to rip off? You are hated in boxing with the exception of Scott Wagner who thinks you are nice, but you have him fooled too! Go pack sand.
news coming soon....tony's fighting...the number one summer of 08 ...
What the hell is everybody badmouthing each other for? If you don't have anything constructive to say, say nothing.
I think Chris is ok guy..

Hey, Digital is just posting the link b/c it's an article that has to do with the best active American heavyweight today, and one of our very own, Tony "The Tiger" Thompson. We all know that what the reporter wrote about was total nonsense it it will never happen, but that's not Digital's fault. He just posted the link.
From SOUTHPAW:
Gary M or Gary W, what advice do you have for Tony Thompson? He has a good record, been active (tho hast fought in 7 months w nothing scheduled) but is turning 37 this year, not traditionally the prime age for a heavyweight champ. He can't lose afford a loss at this stage and doesn't pack the power that will make the public demand a fight with Klitscho. He has beaten some second and third tier fighters, never beaten a solid contender, meaning a top ten contender. Would you put him in with Povtiken? Chagaev? or a older, less rated but dangerous fighter like Brewster?
Who are the gatekeepers to the crown in the HW division, like ELlis, YOung, Middleton were? Look forward to your take.
I hope Thompson doesn't become the odd man out who never gets a chance at the title. It's such a darn shame b/c he is the best heavyweight in the world today. The problem is that HBO doesn't realize how good Tony The Tiger really is. If they were behind him, he would get a shot.
