My apologies for getting this up so late. Between starting a new full-time job and very limited access to working email, this has been a rough one.

Is there anyone qualified on this Blog to tell me where Ishmael Arvin is? He was the next Junior Middle Champ and I guess you clowns did not know that!
Ishmail was at the show last night, but I didn't get a chance to talk to him. I heard rumors he may be on the next
Ballroom show on May 31.
He needed some time off after his last bout at Martin's when he was knocked out.

Critics of the Ballroom Boxing matchmaker better have been at the show Thursday night. Sad to see the local guy, Tyrell Samuel, take his first loss, and I know the esteemed Professor Pettway thought it was a premature stoppage, but what a corking main event! Us rapidly developing oldtimers remember Vince suffering some bad KOs in his career and, other times, miraculously fighting himself out of just about the gravest danger you could imagine. One of my favorite warriors and people in boxing, but I don't want to second-guess the referee on this one. It was a helluva punch by Jose Hernandez. How the hell that excellent little guy lost six of his first fifteen is beyond me. He must get matched really tough (thanks, Chris!). I turned to Jeff Jowett, the second greatest fight scribe on the east coast (Jack Obermayer is Numero Uno) and said it was too bad to see such a promising guy like Samuel lose and he said, "Everybody loses sooner or later." It's something Samuel should remember. The guy is loaded with talent, but MUST remember to respect every opponent for every single second. Boxing is too dangerous for even a super fighter to have even a little bit lax defense. The best guys, like Mayweather, make it look so damn easy, but it is not easy, it is training, sacrifice, greatness and focus, focus, focus. -- John Scheinman
Perhaps, it is this kind of fight that will make Samuel get into that next gear of training and seriousness.
Kendall Holt, not too long ago, got bombed out but came back stronger than ever.
One loss is not the end of a career. Sometimes, it's the beginning of a real one.
I was also in attendance to see Tyrell. He is a seemingly talented fighter, but his lack of amatuer experience and punching power seems to be showing through. I was hoping he would show the same committment to the body attack that he demonstrated at Suitland against Lara.
The kid Hernandez was very tough, hit Samuel with a picture perfect shot. Hernandez has been in with very tough fighters, 5 undefeated fighters in fact. Like a lot of Mexican fighters, he seems to be learning the sport in the pro ranks, which means early losses but rapid progress. I look forward to seeing him fight again.
Tyrell was game to get up, however I can't second guess the stoppage. Hopefully VP can impart his experience and get Tyrell back in the gym and ring soon. I wish Tyrell the best.
In close, the Ballroom does a good job matching guys up, however a 4 fight pro card? Too light for my taste and ticket price. Throwing a couple amatuer bouts doesn't camoflage the lack of a full card. End of the day, this card didn't compare to the night of fights I saw in Suitland in February, less ballroom glitz there but better fights and a better card.
I didn't attend this event because I have been disappointed with the last several Ballroom Boxing shows going back to 2006 - mismatches and less than 5 pro fights has been the norm. It just isn't worth the $100 for ringside seats anymore. With only 4 pro fights shown at this event, seems like the Ballroom is continuing with its downward trend. It's a shame.
