Some sad news to report. The family of videographer Rudy Childs lost just about everything in a four-alarm fire at their home in Rockland, MA earlier this week.
Fortunately, Rudy, his lovely wife, Lori and their four young daughters all got out of the house safely, thanks to a smoke alarm.
Rudy is an integral reason why I am where I am today. He was the technical genius behind the TV series I worked on, "Boxing Spotlight." He also helped Ballroom Boxing reach the level of respect it has had by being the producer of its TV series for a number of years. He has also helped other promoters in the area by providing videos of their cards. Rudy has won numerous awards for his work over the past 20 years.
I send my thoughts and prayers to the Childs family.

Rudy is the reason why I am photographing boxing today. If he had not given me my first ringside opportunity, my life would definitely have gone down a different path. It's odd how people affect our lives and a small gesture can have such a tremendous impact. Rudy I send much love and prayers your way to you and your family...and you know Maryland, especially the "U"'s in Riverdale are pullin' for you!

Most of your readers don't know that you, Rudy, me, and the late "Panama" Mike Payne started the old Boxing Spotlite series back in the early '90's, which led to what each of us is doing in the sport today. I believe Mike would be proud of the seed he planted.
I like Brad's idea but let's not wait on promoters to do something for Rudy and his family in their time of greatest need.
Obtain a mailiing address so we can directly send monetary donations to him ASAP.
Come on boxing fans, have a big heart behind this one because something like this could very easily KO any one of us at any given time. Be a Champion by working in Rudy's corner with us in this GOOD FIGHT to help his family get back on their feet! May GOD Bless each of you for doing so.

Dig, Jon Saraceno came up with the idea of "Raise The Roof for Rudy." We raised money for his family through a silent auction on th 19th and are continuing our efforts to ship his family items they badly need. Just an example - I asked Rudy what he needed most - he said "lightbulbs." Now if thats not an indication of all the things lost... but he also mentioned that he kept the six most important things - his four pretty girls and his lovely wife...and himself. If folks would go through their stuff and think of the simple things throw them in a box and ship them to his family - you have no idea of how much every little thing helps. Thanks for spreading the word Dig, to those who have helped out and to Jon Saraceno for leading the charge. Oh - and to the folks from Walter Reed Hospital who donated as well.
