Results from Winchester, VA!

Courtesy of Boxrec.com, here are the results of last night's Left Hook Boxing (Scott Farmer) card at the Winchester Sportsplex in Winchester, VA:

Front Royal, VA lightweight Andrew "The Doo Man" Farmer bounced back from his December 9 Patriot Center loss to Ken Humphreys by winning his first six-round bout, a unanimous decision over Mike Salyers of Rush, KY. Farmer is now 5-1, four KO's while Salyers is 2-11, two KO's.

The resurgence of Manassas, VA junior welterweight Jaime "The Punisher" Palma continues. Palma won his fourth straight bout, capturing a six-round unanimous decision over Edward "Nuckie" Anderson. This is the second time Palma has defeated Anderson. Palma is now over the .500 mark at 11-10-1, two KO's. Anderson is 4-8, three KO's.

Undefeated heavyweight Juan Carlos Robles of Waynesboro, VA made short work of a debuting Kishawn Davis, scoring a first-round KO. Robles is now 7-0, four KO's.

Front Royal heavyweight Terry "T-Brick" Roy and Rush, KY's Chris Brown fought to a four-round draw. Roy remains undefeated at 2-0-1, two KO's while Brown, who bounced back from his first-round knockout loss to Horace Grant at the Lincoln Theatre on December 9, is now 1-1-1, one KO.

Front Royal junior middleweight Warren "The Mack" Clatterbuck won a four-round unanimous decision over Billy Mitchem of Spartansburg, SC. Clatterbuck is now 5-0, two KO's. The 48-year-old Mitchem is 6-15-1, one KO.

Rookie junior welterweight Edgar "The Tiger" Torres of Springfield, VA won his pro debut with a first-round KO over Robert Ganaway (0-8) of Wilson, NC. There is a lot of good talk about this Mexican-born boxer.

Charles Norwood of Roanoke, VA scored a second-round KO over Charlottsville, VA's "The Sensacional" George Rivera in his pro debut. Norwood, by the way, was born in DC. Rivera's record is 1-1, one KO.

If you attended this bout, please give us some feedback.

Andrew Farmer vs Mike Salyers: Farmer was sharp and quick vs Salyers, who was about a head shorter. Salyers appeared to be somewhat dirty, holding the back of Farmers head and uppercutting him on more than one occassion. This ended up turning what had been a tactical match into more of a brawl, which the physically superior Farmer was able to win.

Jaime Palma vs Edward Anderson: This was a good fight. Palma was just to much for a very game Anderson who overcame two flash knockdowns in the first round to finish the fight. However he didnt win a round and Palma took a wide decision.

Juan Carlos Robles vs Kishawn Davis: Robles obliterated Davis who should not have been allowed in a boxing ring. Davis didnt know what the heck he was doing in there, slapping with punches and never setting his feet. He went down on the first good punch Robles landed and stayed there. Robles is a real prospect and has definate ability but he needs to be in there with people that can do something.

Terry Roy vs Horace Grant: This was a slugfest between two guys who let it all hang out. The first round went to Roy who used a stiff jab to keep Grant back. However conditioning seemed to be somewhat of a problem for Roy who seemed to fall off in the next two rounds. However he did enough business in the second to probably win it. The third round Grant did the more effective punching. The fourth had Roy come back with his second wind and land a lot of clean punches. The judges declared it a majority draw, but the fight honestly could have gone either way and neither of these guys have anything to be ashamed of. This fight really made the night, and while it was not a tactical masterpiece, it was definately entertaining.

Warren Clatterbuck vs Billy Mitchem: Mitchem looks like the bitter beer face guy. He spent the entire fight running away from Clatterbuck and pawing with a weak jab. For his part Clatterbuck chased Mitchem around the ring and landed sporadically with shots. He finally landed a good power shot to Mitchems ribs late in the fourth that made the old man take a knee. Judges all scored a shutout for Clatterbuck.

Edgar Torres vs Robert Ganaway: Ganaway should stop fighting. He doesn't know his business. He is nothing but an unskilled wild swinger. Torres, however, looked like a skilled and patient boxer, who waited for Ganaway to open up, while making sure he didnt get caught with something stupid, and landed a very hard bodyshot midway through the first that doubled up Ganaway and had him motionless on the canvas.

George Rivera vs Charles Norwood: Rivera looked to be the faster, while Norwood looked to be landing a big shot. He did and Rivera was motionless for a few seconds before coming around.

All in all the card was entertaining, and was worth the hour drive and ticket price. On this level you have to expect some mismatches, and it wasn't really a suprise there were some. You have to look at the highlights, of which there were plenty, and just let the other stuff go.

I definately had a good time.

If Farmer is a prospect, when is he going to stop fighting total bums. Mike Salyers has lost 8 in a row and no legitimate State Athletic Commission in America would let him fight, let alone fight a guy who is 5-1.
The same can be said of Robles. How long is he going to keep fighting bums. Maybe he should just keep fighting Amos. The State does not seem to mind fighters with umpteen losses in a row, maybe Robles should just fight Amos for 13 more times and become 20-0. Clearly the promoter does not care what the paying customer thinks. And that is the last trip to Winchester this fan will make.

Paying Customer

Andrew Farmer is an up and coming fighter, and when you step up into the professional rankings, your going to work your way up,just as you did in the amateur's, and by that your going to be selective in your opposition. Keep up the hard work Andrew, it'll pay off.

Gentlemen,

This card was a great card for the valley. Give the promoter credit for even putting on a card in Winchester, VA. Other than the Rables and Clatterbuck the card was a success. Robles opponent looked like a jack rabbit and where did they find Clatterbucks opponent.

Clatterbuck needs to be tested for something. For someone who is so big and can't KO a 40 something fighter needs to learn how to throw a punch before pumping up their arms. His new name should be Popeye the sailor man!

Listen, I drove more than an hour and a half to see these fights and I am pleased. DC sucks for boxing now so have fights and I will follow.

Next time have a real main event and my friends and I will come again!

Slam / DC

PS Funny as hell seeing the cornerman being thrown out of the T-Brick fight by the referee. I bet the ref would win that fight!

Fighting total stiffs does not do anything for the development of the fighter. Blasting around the tiny Mike Salyers whose sole goal is to get the paycheck teaches nothing to the fighter. There are plenty of guys out there who have the skills to stay with Framer, but not hurt him, and they are a much better choice than Salyers.

Hey Slam DC, I agree with you, all in all a good night of boxing. But I disagree with you about one thing, the ref would not have beaten the cornerman he threw out during the very exciting T-Brick vs. Chris Brown fight. The cornerman Big Joe Cooper threw out was none other than the Promoter of the show - Scott "The Manassas Mauler" Farmer! How about that? The Promoter got thrown out of his own show!(for a fight at least)! By the way Farmer's professional record was 14 and 10 according to BoxRec. I also disagree with Paying Customer. Mike Salyers really tried his best against Andrew Farmer and I thought the fight was an exciting affair. In my estimation, Salyers wobbled Farmer pretty badly somewhere in the middle rounds of the fight. Don't forget, the Farmer kid isn't even 20 yet. All in all, good show and I'll be back!

Anonymous said...

Billy D I hate to tell you Cooper would have killed him, Cooper was the midatlantic cruiserweight kick boxing champ in his prime.

I know all about Joe's Kung Phooey. I'd still go with Farmer. He'd have Joe's nose busted in no time. Plus, Joe looks buffet crazy these days. Besides, I'm no traitor. I always pick the boxer in the "boxer vs. kung phooey" matchup!

Are you kidding me! Hey! I am sure that Farmer was a tough guy in his day but he never beat anyone that actually had a heart beat! He was KO'd 6 time in his career!

OK! What's next is he coming out of retirement! lol!

I wish I had not lost my leg or I would come out and whip someone! lol!

Cooper in 1! KO! KO!

Slam / DC

Hey! Does anyone know the fighters on the upcoming fight in Winchester, VA! Is Middendorf the Matchmaker? Should I travel forthis one? I need to see some real KO"S!

Juan Roble's fight was so short I didn't see it. He fights again in Winchester March 10th. www.Vvalley.com/boxingI hope it last long enough to see it. Oh well we also have Dean White on the card for a good show

First I would like to say I thought it was overall a good card, lots of entertainment, Isn't that what we pay for? Finally, a show in the hometown of most of these boxers.

Clatterbuck verses Mitchem card may have looked like a joke to some, but if you really know about boxing, you would see that Mitchem having fought two World Champs in his earlier career, has experience for sure. I have been watching Clatterbuck for years and I think this was a great learning experience in the ring for him, he needed those rounds, lets face it most of his opponents get ko, or quit after the first round. It must be the result of those popeye arms.

This fight may have been a mismatch, but where are the oppontents with the belts? I think Clatterbuck vs Perry Ballard would be a great match, maybe we can see that in the future. Go Ahead Popeye!!

Farmer vs Salyers, great match!! Two young tough boxers. Both showed great sportsmanship.

I enjoyed the show, well organized and a great venue. Hope to see more in the future.

Clatterbuck needs to be polished a little before taking a step up to a 10 or 12 round fight. A fight with another puncher would be an interesting bout to see once he gets to the 10, 12 round level?

Clatterbuck only has 1 actual KO on his record. His previous opponent quit on the stool with cramps or something so actually that is not a ko! So maybe he is not a big puncher after all?

Who is Mitchum's other world title champion he fought?

Thanks,

Broke in Winchester

This show was well worth the money there was not a single fight that was bad.
Congrats to ANDREW FARMER awesome display of true boxing.
As for the other fighters on the card TERRY ROY, EDGAR TORRES, WARREN CLATTERBUCK and JAMIE PALMA you guys made it worth the best of all the true fans of local boxing

good job HELL of a SHOW need more like this one

Anonymous said...

True boxing? Hmmm. I could have swore I saw Farmers knees buckle. I not to sure his has that great of a chin. We shall wait and see. He damn sure has some skils though.

It was an average show at best but don't get so excited to say this was worth the money. I believe $40 dollars was a little steep for general admission.

Need more like this one! Not so sure about that either.

True boxing. Are you sure you were at the fights the other night?

I believe on the job training at best.

Clatterbuck's record is actually 6-0-2ko's, there was a show in Annadale, he fought a James Hubbard and Clatterbuck ko'd him.

The dude with cramps, well I guess he got a case of the "Mack" gurgles. Ha Ha

As for Mitchem he of course fought Roy Jones Jr, and also Mitch Green.

I think if Clatterbuck gets a couple more 6 rounders in, I think he will be ready to step it up. Clatterbuck has skill, if he could get someone challenging in the ring, instead of someone always running from him maybe we can all see his real talent.

Anonymous said...

If that won't him, I'm sorry. But you know what Old Cats like me say, "Don't Talk About It, Be About It!" -- If you're going to promote a show in DC Mark, go ahead and do it!

You know something Digital? There are a lot of anonymous straight up punks on this blog! If you're afraid to sign your name, don't come on here poppin' mess about this person getting knocked out, that person's a bum, etc.! You're the one who's a bum, you anonymous low life piece of trash! I'm talking to you, the one who said it was "priceless" to see the prospect Rivera get knocked out on his face. Hey, those things happen. It's boxing hater! If Rivera won, you'd probably also be the first in line to say, "Why don't you match these prospects tougher, they haven't fought anybody, they can't fight!" Well, when a promoter matches a prospect tough and he gets caught with a good shot then you say it's "priceless" that his face hits the canvas. You hating, spineless piece of garbage. You fail the smoothness test, Punk!
