'Hurricane' Mayes Blows into Pikesville on April 21!

Baltimore, MD super middleweight prospect Henry “Hurricane” Mayes headlines a five-bout card on Friday, April 21 at the Pikesville National Guard Armory in Pikesville, MD.

After suffering a surprising first-round knockout at the hands of Alton Rice in May of 2005, Mayes (5-1, four KO’s) has bounced back nicely, winning his last two outings by knockout. In his last bout, Mayes scored a first round knockout over Nick “Flash” Collins on March 24 in Pikesville.

Mayes’ opponent for this scheduled six-round encounter will be Jarell Jackson of Temple Hills, MD. Jackson (5-4-1, one KO) is unbeaten in his last two bouts (2-0-1, one KO). The knockout came in his last bout on Feb. 18 in Fairfax, VA as Jackson stopped Carlos Jones in the sixth round.

The co-feature will match middleweight newcomer Jessie “The Beast” Nicklow of Severn, MD against Don Shrock of Middleton, OH. The undefeated Nicklow (3-0, one KO) won a six-round unanimous decision over veteran Larry Brothers on March 24 in Pikesville. Shrock (2-4, one KO) is coming off a third-round knockout loss to Masedonio Molina on March 18 in Toledo, OH. The Nicklow-Shrock bout is scheduled for either four or six rounds.

Veteran junior middleweight “Diamond” Matt Hill of Reisterstown, MD will also appear on the card. Hill (7-28-2, four KO’s) pulled off a minor upset win in his last outing when he captured a four-round unanimous decision over Marquis McConnell on the March 24 Pikesville show. Hill will try to win two straight bouts for the first time in his career when he faces Richard Heath of North Carolina in a four-round contest. Heath (2-7, two KO’s) has lost his last three bouts including a six-round unanimous decision to Jay Krupp on March 30 in Charleston, SC.

Also on the card, Baltimore light heavyweight newcomer Willie “For Real” Williams (1-0, one KO) will take on Bobby Jordan of Norfolk, VA (1-0-1, one KO) and Baltimore amateur standout Julius Kennedy will make his pro debut against Jason Champion of Capitol Heights, MD (1-1, one KO). There will also be four amateur bouts on this card.

The promoter is Baltimore Pro Boxing, headed by Jake Smith. The matchmaker is Josh Hall.

I remember the Jackson-Jones bout: It seemed like Jones had the advantage, but Jackson must've been saving his energy for that 6th round. Pretty good fight.

This is going to be an AWESOME card. All the match-ups are going to being wars. I especially want to see the Mayes-Jackson fight and the Williams-Jordan fight. It will be good seeing Julius finally back in bmore also.

Wow, spectacular match-ups!!! These guys are really taking some chances early in their careers. That can mean one of two things, supreme confidence, or mismanagement. Either way, this will be a great night of boxing.
