Russell Added to June 30th ShoBox Card in Indio, CA!

Undefeated Capitol Heights, MD featherweight "Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. will make his first appearance of 2012 on Saturday, June 30 at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA as part of a ShoBox telecast.

Russell (19-0, 11 KO's) will face Christopher "Huracan" Perez of Culiacan, MX (23-2, 14 KO's) in a 10-round co-feature bout.   The main event will be the IBF Junior Middleweight Championship rematch between Cornelius Bundrage and Cory Spinks.

By the way, Russell has decided not to accept the featherweight world title elimination bout offered to him.

OMG You boxers from DC and Md need to grow some balls. Too scared to fight in the tournament and now your fighting a guy who is damn near 40 years old who just fought a guy who is 0-2. Furthermore.this Christopher "Huracan" Perez has fought guys with records of 30-21, 24-17, 24-16, 0-2, 0-11, 0-1, 0-10, 0-1, and 0-14. Now it's obvious why HBO will no longer air Gary's fights. I'm actually surprised that Showtime is doing such. This is garbage! This type of behavior is ruining boxing. Just like Gary williams has said, Russell has decided not to participate in the featherweight elimination bout. What a joke. I'd rather watch paint dry.

Russell is only 24 years old and has fought just one 10 round fight. What is the hurry? There is no reason to jump into the eliminator which would be 12 rounds when he has never even gone farther than 8 rounds. There will be plenty of time for him to fight for a world title, he might as well make sure that when he fights for it that he will win it. He certainly does not have to take chances to please the likes of "Magigal Moments".
