Five Beltway amateurs won their opening bouts at the Junior Olympic National Championships in Mobile, AL earlier today.
In the 125-pound division, Jalonte Cole of Washington, DC won a 20-16 decision over Matthew Guerrero of Montega, CA. Also, DaQuan Johnson of Capitol Heights, MD won his opening contest at 176 pounds with a 14-12 decision over Anthony LaCraze of West Monroe, LA.
Locals Gary Antuanne Russell, Kareem Martin and Malik Hawkins were also victorious in the evening session. Russell of Capitol Heights, MD defeated Damon Lachman of White Bear Lake, WI, 28-8 in the 119-pound division. Martin from Clinton, MD decisioned Seu Sea of Tacoma, WA, 20-6 while Hawkins of Baltimore, MD won a 17-6 decision over Kevin Rodriguez of Brooklyn, NY. Both of those bouts were in the 145-pound class.
