Boxing Finds Home At MGM National Harbor Casino With Two Cards In Six Days!

It looks like boxing has found a home at the MGM Casino at National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD.  The April schedule will have two cards at the new location in a six-day period.

We already know about the Saturday, April 8 card that features two world and one regional title bout headlined by Vasyl Lomachenko defending his WBO Super Featherweight championship against former WBA Super Featherweight titleholder Jason Sosa.  The main bouts will be televised by HBO.

Now, my writing partner, Juan Marshall of ProAm Fight Talk is reporting that the new casino will be the site of the Interim NABA Welterweight title bout between undefeated Malik "Iceman" Hawkins of Baltimore, MD and Taras Shelestyuk of Los Angeles, CA by way of the Ukraine on Friday, April 14th.  That bout will be part of a ShoBox telecast on Showtime.

Marshall is also reporting that Baltimore light heavyweight Travis "Seveer" Reeves will appear on this card because his scheduled IBF International Light Heavyweight title bout slated for March 18 in Queensland, Australia has been postponed due to a rib injury suffered by his opponent, Trent Broadhurst.

Also, the card featuring WBC Featherweight champion Gary Russell, Jr.'s title defense against Oscar Escandon that was originally scheduled for March 11th has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 27th.
