Johnson Steps Into Televised Main Event June 12 In Chicago; A. Peterson Appears on Undercard!

BoxingScene.com is reporting that Oxon Hill, MD light heavyweight Alexander "The Great" Johnson will step into a main event contest against undefeated Artur Beterbiev of Montreal, Quebec, Canada by way of Russia on Thursday, June 12 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL.

Johnson replaces Doudou Ngumbi in the bout that, according to BoxRec, is slated for 12 rounds and will be broadcast live on Spike TV.

Johnson (16-2, seven KO's) has not fought since scoring a devastating first-round TKO over Henry Buchanan on September 20 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

Beterbiev has been perfect in his career (8-0, eight KO's) and has won three regional titles.  Beterbiev is coming off a fourth-round knockout over Gabriel Campillo on April 4 in Quebec, Canada. This will be Beterbiev's first bout outside of Canada.

In an undercard bout, DC lightweight Anthony Peterson returns to action in a 10-round contest against Ammeth "Clorofomo" Diaz of Panama. Peterson (34-1, 22 KO's) has not fought since scoring a first-round knockout over Edgar Riovalle on August 9 in Brooklyn, NY.  Diaz (32-11, 23 KO's) has been away from ring action since May of 2013 when he knocked out Martin Gethin in the seventh round in West Midlands, United Kingdom.
