"Mr." Gary Russell, Jr. has dropped a 12-round majority decision to Vasyl Lomachenko for the WBO Featherweight championship tonight at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA.
Lomachenko was a lot more dominant than the judges's scorecards indicated. He was exceptional going to Russell's body and landing the harder shots throughout. Lomachenko negated Russell's speed advantage. Russell seemed get off to good starts in rounds but the two-time Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist was able to get the timing down midway through each round and was able to land solid power shots.
Judges Max DeLuca and Pat Russell scored the bout 116-112 for Lomachenko negating a ridiculous 114-114 score from Lisa Giampa. The BATB scorecard saw the bout 117-111 for Lomachenko.
Russell loses for the first time as a pro and is now 24-1, 14 KO's. Lomachenko is now 2-1, one KO.
Giampa's score was insane.
ReplyDeleteLil more pressure gary would have quit look tired body shots killed him too stationary running into punches
ReplyDeleteBoxing Along The Beltway is the only one who got the score right. 117-111 and that's being nice. Russell's corner was confused after the very first round. Lomachenko looked like he was the one with 25 professional fights. He was the much smarter fighter and it showed tremendously. If Russell should chose to fight again, he should consider bringing in Ronnie Shields.
ReplyDeleteGary wanted to quit after the 7th. He does not have the guts for this type of work.
ReplyDeleteTy Barnett got KO but he damn sure looked better than Gary did thru out the fight lmao Gary was bout too quit
ReplyDeleteLLS
DeleteTy Barnett would easily beat Gary Russell. Barnett has the heart of a lion.
ReplyDeleteTy can't even best lil Garry lil brothers they would kill ty, ty better never put on boxing gloves again
ReplyDeleteAll the Russell's gonna lose the same way exposed
ReplyDeleteLoma and Gary had about the same amount of amatuer fights gary got exposed point blank I rather get caught with a punch I don't c then too be about too quit on national tv after saying that man fight like a amatuer Gary look like the amatuer
ReplyDeleteLISA GIAMPA IS ANOTHER CJ ROSS. Do something else with your life, woman or write a book on how to be a bad judge. ENOUGH ,ENOUGH with imcompetent judges. Even the cards that had Lomachenko winning by 4 points were off the mark. Lomachenko won by 6 points at least. Russell threw a lot of punches( while making a lot of sounds ) but very few landed and he was ready to go in the last round.
ReplyDeleteGary just ran into a exceptional fighter.....the dude only lost 1 fight out of 300+ amateur fights and 1 pro fight to the previous champion....Now, Gary didn't have no power on any of his shots, plus he could never get to dudes body. The guy had a solid game plan. Gary shouldn't feel bad about the loss because he went 12 rds with a top level fighter but now he has to fight guys at this level every fight from here on out....we going to see what kind of fighter he is after this.
ReplyDeleteGary Russel will be fighting at Rosecroft in September.
ReplyDelete^^ Lol
ReplyDeleteGary better stick too fighting slow flat footed fighters I see now why he got sick in the Olympics nigga can't handle pressure
ReplyDeleteKeystone boxing wanna sign Gary lmao
ReplyDeleteWhat did he do go watch the fight again look like shit from round 1 Gary is a good fighter but not an elite fighter he made no adjustments kept throwing flurries nigga look like a amatuer and he was bout too quit go look at the fight he got some quit in him point blank
ReplyDeleteGary thought it was sweet he was bout to quit lil more pressure he would of got stopped Loma kept pulling back off him
ReplyDeleteKeep my name off this website positive or negative keep my name out y'all mouth why are you clowns mentioning my name on here this is the worst website ever Gary Digital needs to remove this stage set up for clowns off the Internet and I salute Lil G for showing a heart of a lion tonight much respect Conrad peace
ReplyDeleteRESPECT THAT NOW LIL G GO CASH THAT $400,000 IN THEY FACE BROKE MF LOL AT YOU HATERS.
DeleteSeriously..what is wrong with you couch fighters??? GRJ came in shape put in the work and went out and fought his heart out ...it's nothing wrong with losing to the better man this night. He will he a world champion. Lomachenko has a tough style for anyone ...
ReplyDeleteAin't no quit in the guy ...he went 12 rounds with a guy that was 397-1 2 time gold medalist! He kept coming just couldn't find him...let me ask you retard f*gs...who you beat?
DeleteLike Gary said the amatuers and the pro level is different and it showed tonight lol
ReplyDeleteGary Russell Jr. showed what happens when you fight 24 Cab drivers in a row & then run into a REAL FIGHTER! Lol
ReplyDeleteI like Ty barnetta coming on here talking tuff. You're a pussy nigga. At least Gary's brother ain't come tackle Loma from behind pussy.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a very competitive fight. I thought Gary landed more punches than he got credit for. I thought it was a close fight
ReplyDeleteI seen it same as you
DeleteLOL you must be Gary's lil brother
DeleteDigital you had it 117-111, I had it much closer. I don't think people are giving him credit for all the punches he threw. They may not have been as hard, but they landed
ReplyDeleteyea gary lost but why so much hate. I think lomachenko is gonna be a p4p fighter. he looks great. Gary wasnt ready for this big a step up but he showed a lot of heart and did a good job. All yall talking shit is pathetic. Really shows the low iq of most the posters on this site.
ReplyDeleteU don't get credit from throwing flurry combinations his father kept telling him to sit down on his punches he did good when he back the guy up but he looked flat like he was drainedaybe he need to move up to 130 pounds he look like he struggled with the weight
ReplyDeleteGary fights at ROSECROFT on September the 1,2014
DeleteLet's just keep it real if you are not from the headbangers you will not servive in this sport you see I been watching Lil Gary since the silver gloves and he never had any heart 4 real.
ReplyDeleteThe next to be exposed will be Dusty Lol
ReplyDeleteThe russells win on experience, if you have as much experience you have a good shot at beating them.to many technical faults in their game to compete with elite fighters..first , the smoke screen jab - three or more jabs at a time not meant to land can easily be countered by good fighters.second, wide hooks had Gary missing and being countered by fissous body shots..again if you have the experience to deal with the pressure, you can beat them
ReplyDeleteThe DMV has some of the best fighters in the USA, it's sad that these guys get so much hate as soon as they have a setback.
ReplyDelete“I think hand speed is one of the greatest things you can bring into the ring,” said Russell Jr., who is trained by his father. “I know guys that are strong and have power, but it really doesn’t mean anything if you can’t hit the opponent with it. I think speed plays a big factor and a good jab at that. I think [my speed] will give any fighter problems.”
ReplyDeleteThis is why I picked Vasyl to win. GRJ fighting all cherry picked cupcakes didn't prepare him for the big stage. That fool can cherry pick another 24 cupcakes and try again. Mad props to Vasyl, the dude has heart.
ReplyDeleteAnd It was another female judge that called this fight a draw. Women should never be allowed to judge boxing matches.
You want to fight me now because I want to fight you bin ass bitch Thomas Snow
ReplyDeleteMy hat's off to Garry he lost the fight but it was no quitting in him or no excuses
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the comments on here, Lil G is still the Best Boxer in the DMV
ReplyDeleteR u freakin nuts. Dmv has Peterson brothers, jarret hurd, mike reed, dusty Harrison, tye Barnett, gary is way down the list.
ReplyDeleteTy Barbette is finished, its over, Hes done, get over it, if he is your mans , if you have love for him ,you shouldn't want to see him in the ring !! Ever
DeleteWhy are we so hard on our own. Lil G fought a very competitive fight. He didn't get knocked out, nor did he quit. We all know he can perform better, he'll be back. Every great boxer has lost, except for Floyd. I still think he will be a future Champion. I agree with the comment I haven't seen a better boxer in the DMV since Mark Johnson. Gary definitely has the skills
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Russell is very reminiscent of what happened to Lamont Peterson when he faced Timothy Bradley. Bradley was a nice step up for Peterson and, although Peterson fought very well, Bradley was a cut above on that night.
ReplyDeletePeterson retooled and four fights later, won the IBF title.
Russell was outgunned last night in much the same manner that Peterson was against Bradley. Russell now has the same opportunity to retool as Peterson did, go back to the drawing board and try again for a world title.
Those of you who believe that Russell is finished as a contender are just plain idiots!
I thought the judge that had it a draw, almost had it right. That was a Very close and competitive fight. Gary didn't get credit for a lot of landed punches because they weren't hard shots, but I thought he out landed the guy
ReplyDeleteDon't dare compare Peterson to Russell. Peterson is on another level. He fought the best and is still willing to do so. Peterson is preparing to Fight Danny Garcia on August 9th. I seriously doubt that Russell will fight again. He has went as far as he can possibly go. It was obvious last night that the run is over unless he chooses to fight tomato cans. (Which will no longer be aired on TV) I am sure Al Haymon will be looking to cash out. Russell receives more judgment than others because of his arrogance. I seen over and over where he kept calling the other guy an amateur. Now all is saying he was beat by an 1-1 amateur.
ReplyDeleteThis video tells it all! Now you suckas will shut up.

by Al Bernstein - in 566 Google+ circles10 hours ago - Vasyl Lomachenko defeats Gary Russell Jr. via majority decision ... Russell Jr. "It was a bad career move for Vasyl, now he will have two loses ...
As of Saturday afternoon, Vasyl Lomachenko was 1-1 since leaving the amateur ranks. Gary Russell, Jr. was 24-0. But all of Russell’s pro fights against hopeless opponents weren’t enough to prepare him for how good Lomachenko was on Showtime Saturday night, as Lomachenko — who was fearless in taking on Orlando Salido then Russell — won a majority decision that should’ve been unanimous.
ReplyDeleteLomachenko was brilliant, mixing up angles, punches, defenses, speeds, everything. If you’re a fan of classy boxing, he put on a show. And he was the one landing the harder shots throughout. I viewed the first six rounds as close — I had it even, whereas most everyone else had it for Lomachenko easily. But over the back half of the fight, Lomachenko just beat the hell out of Russell, and he did it with a boxer-puncher style that was very appealing to watch, and fascinating to study.
Russell was faster of hand, and when he threw more punches, he was in those rounds competitively. But Lomachenko wasn’t outclassed on speed, and his footwork was superior. Russell wasn’t able to win on pure speed alone, and when he sat down on his punches, Lomachenko saw it coming. Russell, too, was a touch reluctant to sit down on his punches like he had against the no-hopers he had faced before, so his explosive power never really came into play. By the end of the 12th round, he was on the verge of getting knocked down. The judges had it 116-112 times two, reasonable but generous scores, and Lisa Giampa had it 114-114, which was unreasonable and generous.
Here’s the thing: Russell didn’t get “exposed.” He showed grit to stay in the fight, made adjustments here and there, and got more schooling — in the good sense of the term — in this bout than he got in his whole pro career. If he can keep his head up, watch what he did wrong, steal some tricks from Lomachenko… he can still become a player at 126. He’s got building blocks in his speed and power, and now we know he’s got some toughness. It’s all about what he does now that he’s gotten a smidge of seasoning.
But Lomachenko — man, that was masterful. Put him in against any featherweight now and he’s no worse than even money.

Death wishes to all of the Gary Russell haters!
ReplyDeleteGary Russell learned more in the loss last night than his previous pro fights. He is not done as a contender, but he needs to step up his level of competition on a consistent basis if he wants to be a serious contender.
ReplyDeleteThem Russell's hate on everybody and think they better than everybody else u can't treat people like shit then want people to feel sorry for u
ReplyDeleteRady, for the record, Peterson is NOT fighting Garcia on August 9. They are on the same card but they are in separate bouts.
ReplyDeleteThat's ty barnette hating on lil Garry go and read the fist few comments they ty has a heart of a lion and would have beat lil gary then look at what ty barnet wrote he said that Garry has a heart of a lion so that's how you know ty was writing all that bad stuff about lil Garry lol you are a hater
ReplyDeleteMf when I comment I don't hide nothing I don't care what the next man posted mf I said what I said that's that point blank you can't compare my comments to these hating mfs comments Lil G showed the heart of a lion I ain't switching up my words because of what someone else said fuck you
DeleteGary needs to work on a sharp (effective) jab and not just flick it out there and when he lets off punches they are a bit too wide he needs to sit down on them and make his punches shorter
ReplyDeleteNo comparing gary 2 marc johnson I have 2sharp stopping gary 8 rounds or less
ReplyDeleteShut up ty your drunk nuts Azz, how did you know that somebody was talking about you if you wasn't on this site lol go take a nap black beard the pirate lol snitch
ReplyDeleteIFa nigga a snitch why you anonymous MOST anonymous niggaz done told on a mf or about to
DeleteLomanchenko would have beaten anyone last night. There was nothing that could have been done.
ReplyDeletehello gary William of this site why don't you do something too stop letting anyone post this crap real people don't hate on each other mostly it is black on black crime too the fullest. If the other guy lost his fans wont be on the site like this wishing him hate. Black people in the dmv cant stand too see anyone doing anything positive what is going on with the black race"? why don't people state the facts that he got beat by a better fighter nothing wrong with that that is boxing one old one u learn from it and than make changes simple as that
ReplyDeleteI will go on record and say from what i feel and know that ty barnett posting is fake,he wouldn't down play himself like that yet alone disrespect Gary Williams, but hate is definitely among many of the blogs its the way it is,what get me is certain fighters with talent don't carry themselves professional cursing on there twitter and instagram...I mean kids/fans looking at your every move. As far as Lil Gary fight last night The kids was ready for anything Gary had in the tank...it was definitely a learning experience I Hope he bounce back strong.
ReplyDeleteHe will never whip that Russian. He needs to drop down a weight class or two. He needs sparring from Cali. Golden boy will probably release him now. They used him as far as they could.
ReplyDeleteI thought the bout was a lot of fun to watch . It’s kind of obvious that although he has super speed , russell just does not have the power to go along with it . Vasil fights like a guy with many more pro fights than he has had . He seemed much better this time around than he did in his last encounter . I believe he would beat saldido in a rematch as he is smart , and seems to be light years ahead of his few pro fights . He is an excellent technician and I expect him to be a champ for quite a while . Russell tried his best but I think a rematch would be fruitless . I just can’t see him beating vasil , he has much more power and has a very high boxing iq

ReplyDeleteAfter the fight, Russell Jr expressed the desire to fight Lomachenko again, saying “I would definitely fight him again, anytime, anyplace.
That’s obviously not going to happen. Golden Boy Promotions won’t take the risk of messing up Russell Jr’s career by matching him against Lomachenko a second time, because from what we saw last night, Russell Jr, 5’4”, doesn’t have the size to compete with the 5’6 ½” Lomachenko, and he doesn’t have the power either. Lomachenko is just a far stronger
Russell jr is in big big trouble. Lomachenko came in the game first fight on PPV undercards against a solid journeyman fighter and still looked elite, compared to Russell jr who might as well have been fighting handicapped people in his 23 fights and the last couple fights i havent even seen because they havent been televised.
ReplyDeleteLomachenko vs Thomas snow
ReplyDeleteGary vs Snow at ROSECROFT
ReplyDeleteKevin Rivers and Gervonta Davis both better then Thomas Snow and will be better then Russell in another year or two
ReplyDeleteAnthony Peterson will end little Gary and Ty career . HB4Life lol
ReplyDeleteAnthony Peterson will end little Gary and Ty career . HB4Life lol
ReplyDeleteGary done his boxing IQ is horrible made no adjustments kept pulling straight back stood in the air the whole fight wasn't moving his head and he was running into punches all hype
ReplyDeleteHow can anthony do anything. He has to fight first. Headbangers are the best sparring partners, but can't get no fights. Plus all the talent is gone. Now props to lil gary. He fought a good fight and loss. He didn't cry, fuss, or make excusses. He fought a real good fighter
ReplyDeleteGary talked alot of trash before he fought he thought it was sweet a lil more heat and he would have quit I saw it in his eyes
