DC amateur flyweight Malik Jackson lost his bout at the Continental Championships in Santiago, Chile on Friday. Jackson faced one of the true best in his weight class -- 2012 Olympian Jantony Ortiz of Puerto Rico. No word on what the score of the bout was.
The trip is definitely valuable international experience for Jackson, who is a member of the USA Elite Men's Boxing team. Jackson will head to Almaty, Kazakhstan in October for the AIBA Men's World Championships. Jackson's coach at DC's Limelite Gym -- Tony Simmons -- will join Jackson on that trip as a coach on the USA team.

Malik is a very talented boxer, and I'm glad Tony will be making the overseas trip with him.
