The opponent for Palmer Park, MD featherweight Kevin "K-Smoov" Rivers, Jr. on Saturday, July 13 at Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD has changed.
Originally, Rivers (8-0, six KO's) was supposed to face Cesar Cisneros of Bradenton, FL. However, the bout is now an all-Beltway battle as Rivers will now take on Landover, MD's Nuwan Jayakody (1-1, one KO). Jayakody, a native of Sri Lanka, last fought on June 1 and lost a four-round unanimous decision to Anthony Burgin in Atlantic City, NJ. No word yet on whether this bout will still be a six-round contest as originally scheduled for Rivers.

I like Nuwan on this one
yeah right, he has no amateur background, loss his last match' rivers kills him in 30 seconds. dmv boxers demolish me, they fight guys that are hardly breathing.
Whom ever complains about the Md Boxing commission and Pat has no leg to stand on. Pat allows any fights now-a-days. Be happy you are not in NJ or NY. These fights would never happen. Give Pat credit for allowing boxers to build themselves. He used to be hard but he is now looking out for the locals.
Johnson vs. Sugar Poo? I pick Johnson!
Is a shame Rivers is fighting someone with little experience, he should build his record yes but by fighting guys with more experience that will teach him something. Get winnable fights that he will learn from. These type of fights does not do anything for him but a flat out win. Kevin is a very good fighter with a good future and I'm behind him all the way but he needs to fight opponents with a little more experience to learn. I'm pretty sure that he can get better opponents but is just my opinion. If Kevin uses his skills of good boxing, the fight I'd over in 3 rounds
Remember, this wasn't Rivers's original opponent.
Just to Clarify a few things
Nuwan who is fighting Kevin has lots of experience, he has fought for his Country Sri Lanka in many tournaments all over the world. I have been sparring him since he came to this country.
His skill level or fighting style might not meet people's standards here but that doesn't mean that he has no experience, and most of his experience and training was in Sri Lanka which is not known for boxing. You are only as good as your environment, meaning people that train you and the opponents you fight.
I won't comment about the fight itself, but as Gary said it was a last minute replacement, its up to the coach of Nuwan and Rivers to explain why they are taking this fight. Not everyone who boxes wants to win or to become a world champion, some people just want to get in the ring and fight. Good or bad, I have struggled with that, at the end of the day its life, you live and die.
Cyprian Khumalo , If your the one who is his stable mate I feel for him cause you suck.
rivers turned down 7 other boxers this is only one he sais yes to
Somebody has to suck, we can't all be good like you you know, hahaha. So long as I am happy I can suck , I will take that. You guys are funny up here
Hey people and Gary this fight is off, I just spoke to Randolph, Nuwan's coach and Gene from Keystone, Nuwan is actually fighting in Newyork.
Randolph is also my trainer. They are still looking for a late replacement for Rivers though.
First guy fell out and there was a scramble for Jayakody, he initially agreed verbally, no contract was signed. He then worked out to get a fast sweat in, and didn't feel good after it. No harm no foul.
This is boxing economics in its purest form. For Kevin to get better caliber opponents like the guy said earlier in this thread, its all about the benjamins. He needs to get some money behind him. As in, sign with a legitimate promoter. None of the local promoters are going to pony up to bring in "name" opponeFar as I know, Gene and Ty don't sign fighters. So if them or whoever else put him on the card, they would only be picking up the check on someone else's dinner. I'm sure they like Kevin and want him to succeed but it makes no financial sense unless they can make a good local matchup. Rivers is fast approaching a ceiling, if he wants break through to the next level, he needs to look outside MD/DC for the ladder.
Put Rivers in with Sean Puffy Mccombs! Him a real world beater. Truse me K RIv you will have knocked out nut sucking Puffy McCombs on his ring walk!
Say it aint so Puffy McCombs!
Nuwan is a excellent fighter with great international experience. He recently lost a tough decision to the best young pro to come out of Philly in many years. He's going to do well. If Nuwan would have had ample time to prepare he would have given Rivers a run for his money. Its just a real shame that uneducated people with small minds, limited knowledge and acid tongues use this as a forum to throw around insults.
