Gary Antonio Russell has won his first-round contest at the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in Salt Lake City, UT.
Russell earned an RSC over Quincy Means, representing the Mid-South region in the 123 Pound division. Also, Darnell Price II of Camp Lejeune, NC, who is on the DC Region team advanced in the 201 Pound class with a decision over Antonio Salazar of the Upper Midwest region.
Surprisingly, Patrick Harris lost in the first round of the 141 Pound class by decision to Alfonso Olvera of Nevada. Harris was the DC Region's Outstanding Boxer. Also falling in the first round was Jerome Featherstone who lost a decision to Quilisto Madera of California in the 165 Pound class.

Of the 47 bouts contested Monday Gary Antonio Russell was the only one that did not go the distance. The referee stopped the bout in the first. Tonight Lamont Roach and Joe Jones IIi go tonight
