Update on April 20th Card At Show Place Arena!

Here is an update on the Keystone Boxing card at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD.

The six-round main event is still intact as undefeated Forestville, MD junior middleweight Alantez "SlyAza" Fox will take on Djolevi Ballogou of Lome, Togo.  Fox (10-0-1, four KO's) is competing for the third time this month winning a six-round unanimous decision over Greg Hackett on March 2 in Fort Washington, MD.  Ballogou (8-4, six KO's) has not fought since losing a six-round unanimous decision to Wilky Campfort on June 29 in Tampa, FL

Accokeek, MD junior middleweight "Swift" Jarrett Hurd will face Philadelphia, PA's Hackett on this card in a four-round contest.  Hurd (5-0, three KO's) won a four-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Thomas Baldwin on the March 2 card in Fort Washington.  Hackett (2-10) will be looking to break a six-bout losing streak.

As BATB recently reported, Frederick, MD super middleweight Devar "The Warrior" Ferhadi  (2-0, two KO's) will take on PJ Cajigas of Chicago, IL (0-0-1) in a four-round contest. Ferhadi steps in for an injured Jerry Odom.

Waldorf, MD junior welterweight Mike "Yes, Indeed" Reed will look to build on an exciting pro debut when he battles a boxer named Cassius Clay from Las Vegas, NV in another four-rounder.  Reed (1-0, one KO) scored a first round TKO over Kareem McFarland on the March 2 card.  Clay (0-7) is still looking to get his first pro win.

Palmer Park, MD's Kevin "K-Smoov" Rivers, Jr. will be looking for his fifth straight knockout win when he faces Carlos Valdez of Chicago, IL who is making his pro debut. Rivers (5-0, four KO's) has yet to go past the second round in his young pro career in four of the five bouts.

Baltimore, MD featherweight Gervonta "Rambo" Davis (1-0, one KO) will have his second pro contest when he battles the debuting Jacob Ninow of Chicago.  Also, cruiserweight Mario Murphy of Capitol Heights, MD (1-0) will take on Devon Mosley of Chicago, who is making his pro debut.

Just added to the card is Ecuadorian heavyweight Ytalo Parea, now fighting out of Howard Beach, NY.  Parea (1-0, one KO) made his pro debut on March 23 in Frederick, MD and scored a first-round TKO over Chris Gordon.  Parea will face the debuting Glenn Thomas of Pennsylvania.

Baltimore-based boxer Tyrieshia Douglas will not be on the card because a suitable opponent could not be found.

The Regional Golden Gloves will be on Friday, April 26 at the Waldorf Jaycees. I'll post the bout sheet later tonight.

There will be an amateur card on Saturday, May 11 at the Academies at Anacostia (formerly known as Anacostia High School) in DC. This is the first annual Calvin Woodland memorial card.

For any other areas, check with the reporters in those areas.

The best place I know to look is on the regional links section on the boxing writers association of America site www.bwaa.org. I don't know how well they keep up with amateur boxing in those areas. There is a site for North Carolina called Gar 1580. Check that one as well.
