Another tough loss for the Beltway Boxing community. Longtime Potomac Valley Association member Sam Garrett has died. Garrett served with the Potomac Valley Association of USA Boxing for more than 40 years and was elected to the DC Boxing Hall of Fame. Garrett coached boxing at the Seat Pleasant Recreation Center, was a master official with USA Boxing and a National Golden Gloves official.
Garrett also was a mentor and advisor to many of us who work in the Beltway Boxing Scene today. I considered him a friend and a great person to talk to. Sam could also be seem working in and around Prince George's County. I once introduced him to my family while he operated the train at Watkins Park. Funeral arrangements are pending for a man who will truly be missed.
What years did he coach at seat pleasant rec. I remember Leonard langley and coach hatcher in the mid 80 s.

Just an update,Sams' service was excellent and very touching. He was highly respected in the boxing community as well as in his employment duties with MNCPPC and Washington D.C.Dept. of Public Works. His family, friends, former coworkers and anyone who knew him will greatly miss him.
