Three local boxers will be the first from the area to compete in the 2013 USA National Boxing Championships which get underway today at the Northern Quest Resort and Casino in Spokane, WA.
Two of the boxers will compete in the morning session, which is slated to begin at 11 AM PT. Gary Riley of Temple Hills, MD will battle Dustin Southichack of San Antonio, TX in the Senior Male 132 Pound division.
Malik Jackson of Washington, DC may be the first Beltway amateur to compete in an Olympic-style event without headgear since 1980 when he steps into the ring against David Carlton of Cincinnati, OH in an 114 Pound Elite Male contest. Competitors in the Elite Male division will be boxing without headgear, which will also take place in the 2016 Olympics.
In the evening session, which will take place at 5 PM PT, Gary Antuanne Russell of Capitol Heights, MD will compete in the Youth Male 132 Pound division against Brannon Terry of Little Rock, AK.
