Beltway Boxers Compete in First Round of National PAL Championships!

On the first day of competition at the National PAL Boxing Championships in Toledo, OH.  A number of Beltway amateurs advanced to the next round of competition.

In the open division:  Antwan Robinson of Baltimore, MD won a 19-9 decision over Eduardo Vasquez of Englewood, CO.  Also at 123, Gary Antonio Russell of Capitol Heights, MD scored an RSC-2 over Xavier Griffin of Minneapolis, MN.

Lamont Roach, Jr. of Upper Marlboro, MD won a 14-11 decision over Hakeem Watkins of Columbus OH at 132 pounds.  Also at 132, Glen Dezurn of Baltimore, MD scored an RSC-2 over Carlos Arce of Fort Myers, FL.  Another local product, Gary Riley of Temple Hills, MD, lost his bout in the same weight class falling to Luis Cortez of Henderson, NV, 21-14 and Patrick Harris of Hyattsville, MD lost a close, 13-12 decision to Tommy Logan of Winter Haven, FL.

At 178 pounds, 2012 National Golden Gloves champion D'Mitrius Ballard of Temple Hills, MD is moving up in weight (he won the Golden Gloves at 165).  However, Ballard was successful in his first round contest, defeating Reyes Marquez of Colorado Springs, CO, 14-11.

In the female division, Tiara Brown stopped Amber Swift of Trotwood, OH, RSC-2.  Brown is from Lehigh Acres, FL but trains in the DC at the Headbangers Boxing Gym.

In Junior Division competition, Juan Jenkins of Baltimore, MD won a 13-5 decision over Zachary Bram of West Palm Beach, FL in the 11-12 year old, 80 Pounds division.  Also in the Junior Division, Donte Baytop of Baltimore lost a 13-5 decision to Luis Ibarra of Colorado Springs, CO in the 11-12, 85 Pounds Division

In the Intermediate Division, 13-14 year old, 85 Pounds division, Rudy Calixto of Delmar, MD won a 19-6 decision over Patrick Fair of Columbus, OH.

Also in the Intermediate Competition, Denzel Jones of Edgewood, MD lost a 28-4 decision to Michael Dutchover of Midland, TX. in the 13-14, 119 Pound class.  In the 15-16, 119 pound division, Mack Allison of Baltimore, MD lost a 23-7 decision to Efren Lopez of Fresno, CA.
