Brooks Loses, Woods Wins in Philadelphia!

Two Beltway-area boxers had mixed results on a card at the National Guard Armory in Philadelphia, PA Friday night.

Baltimore heavyweight Riley Brooks lost a four-round unanimous decision to John Lennox of Carteret, PA. Brooks lost the bout by scores of 40-36 (twice) and 39-37. However, according to my Fightnews.com colleague Kurt Wolfheimer, Brooks was landing the heavier shots and deserved at least a draw in the bout. Brooks is now 1-3-1 while Lennox is 9-1, four KO's.

Danville, VA cruiserweight Jaywon Woods won a four-round unanimous decision over Rayshawn Myers of Cleveland, OH. Woods dropped Myers in the first round on the way to the victory. The scores were 40-35 across the board. Woods is now 9-1-1, five KO's while Myers is 4-12, three KO's.

  2. Riley Brooks is one of boxing really sad stories. He has never really been beaten up yet always manages to lose in the eyes of the judges but not the audience. Dorsett Barnwell, John Lennox and Mark Oredoff all in many of the minds lost to Mr Brooks in reality but not on the score cards. I have to put some of the blame on Mr Brooks because he always comes into the ring looking in the worst shape possible. He makes a bowling ball look thin but some how he manages to throw effective crowd pleasing shots that draws screams from the audience. Mr. Brooks is the perfect blues song.... No body loves me but my mother and she could be jiving too....

  3. Lennox was the busier fighter throughout, but Brooks constantly landed flush up top that had the crowd “oohing” and “aahing” throughout. At worst Riley deserved a draw in this writer’s opinion.

  4. highlighting the card, Adrien “The Problem” Broner who will put his WBO junior lightweight title on the line against the No. 1 contender Eloy “Prince” Perez. This fight has been brewing for some time and it will pit undefeated fighters that truly act like they don’t like each other.

Broner, the more talkative of the two fighters was not shy and said “Perez is feather-fisted in a featherweight division and that’s not a good combination when I’m punching like a middleweight” and he continued by letting Perez know that , “he better come prepared because if he don’t I’m going to get in his ass like Preparation H”. Broner concluded with, “February 25 there’s going to be a ‘Problem’ and I will be victorious.”

Perez, who was somewhat subdued in his remarks, retorted, “I want to thank Adrien for giving me a shot at ‘The Problem.’ I’m excited to fight for the world title. I have one message for Adrien, I’m not a bean burrito kind of guy, I’m a lasagna kind of guy.”

  8. t brick was thumping that ass when jaywon got hit with a slap then thought for a second, "damn i'm getting the shit beat out of me and i just got hit with something that can get me out of this shit" and then he was like catching the vapors or some shit like that. jaywon isn't even a bum's bum. he can't fight not even a little bit. yep, he's darryl wilson's son but he didn't take after the old man. any decent cruiserweight would slaughter him. shit, if tbrick got himself in shape he'd dust that ass again! and a guy like adam seal? forget about it! he knock jaywood woods dick so deep in the dirt he'd be six feet under!
