Great Falls, VA junior middleweight Jimmy Lange will make the first defense of his WBU (World Boxing Union) title against "The Modern-Day Warrior" Ruben Galvan of Hammond, IN in the main event of the Saturday, February 11th card at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.
Lange (37-4-2, 25 KO's) will headline his 14th Patriot Center card. Lange is coming off his sixth-round TKO title win over Raul Munoz on September 10th. BATB has learned that Lange will be working with former world champion and Beltway legend William Joppy in preparation for this contest.
Galvan (27-20-4, 10 KO's) has faced a who's who of boxers throughout his career including Jorge Paez, Paul Spadafora, Dmitriy Salita, Zab Judah, Vernon Paris and current WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Galvan lost a six-round unanimous decision to Baltimore's undefeated Cecil McCalla in June of 2010.
The card also features two additional world title bouts – Mike “No Joke” Stewart against Joe Wyatt for the vacant WBU welterweight belt and WBC middleweight champion Tori “Sho Nuff” Nelson of Ashburn, Va., facing Vashon “Lady V” Living for the vacant WIBA women’s middleweight crown.
The rest of the undercard will feature two dominant local fighters, both undefeated. Chantilly, Va. junior middleweight Zain “Tiger” Shah will face his toughest test to date with highly regarded “Lightning” Harry Joe Yorgey, while junior welterweight Todd “White Lightning” Wilson of Fairfax, Va., vies for his 12th win opposite Fernando “The Whip” Basora. A heavyweight battle between pro debuting Duane Mobley of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Dennis Benson of Norfolk, Va. is also scheduled.
good god, Look this cat up on boxrec. His last 13 fights.....10 losses, 2 draws, and 1 NC. All against not so good fighters. It is sad to say but the undercard outshines jimmy on this one, even if he destroyes this guy his reputation will still get hurt! I see why they waited so long to announce this opponent.
ReplyDeleteI think lange and shah should be switching opponents
ReplyDeleteThis match-up would have made a better tuneup bout, to keep Lange busy, than a Patriot Center main event, in the same category as his two Mike McFail bouts.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Lange fan who has watched him more than a dozen times, and this disappoints me. I want him to get that title shot he so covets, but this isn't the calibur of opponent that leads to that end.
How does a guy who hasn't won since 2006 get a title shot, even a minor one like the WBU?
ReplyDeletei gotta tell you, johnny lange must be the best damned salesman of all time! he could sell the proverbial ice to an eskimo. hell, he could even sell a load of shit to a waste processing plant! this guy is the greatest of all time at what he does. he can take what should be a 6 round fight and make it a world title fight and sell $500 tickets and draw 2,500 people. Do you folks realize the impossibility of that task? and johnny lange does it time after time after time and time. my hat is off to the man because i don't think any other salesman, promoter, huckster, whatever you want to call it, in the whole entire world could pull something like this off. he's one of a kind a real treasure in his own way.
ReplyDeleteAs long as he keeps putting those asses in them seats at the Patriot Center, he'll continue to amaze you!!
ReplyDeletethe crowds seem small but the place is so big. i guess as long as hes selling the most expensive seats the work is done
ReplyDeleteWell, I use to be A VERY BIG critic, but the shows are entertaining. There is a mixed bag of what I look for in going to the fights, there are KO's, Competitive fights, come from behind beatdowns and networking opportunities.
ReplyDeleteI like it. I attend reguarly and I am treated very good by the promotion. So for me it is great time and I will be disappointed when there are no more.
People this is always a great night of fight people getting together and of course the many fans and I think everybody that attends has a good time.
ReplyDeleteDon't think this show will be any diffrent.Johnny Lange with the help of Brian Bishop puts on a good night of entertainment and I for one look forward to it.
Jimmys fight just might fool you.
He has had his moments in boxing but sometimes he fights to the level of competition he's in the ring with. Not a crack on Jimmy just understand that anything can happen in a fight.
Everybody at least buy a general addmission and come out and support your local fighters.

I just heard that Crybaby Jones is out as the ring announcer and they are having a guest big name doing it.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness our rally to get him off this card worked! The crying the race card did him in! wa wa wa! I am black, you are whack! Really? Really?

This is an early favorite for Card of the Year.
ReplyDeleteEarly favorite!
ReplyDeleteC-mon man
Now we know that you don't know what your talking about.
Sometimes cards like these become very entertaining but I'll promise you that this won't be card of the year.
I think this is actually a pretty damn solid card. Better than most of the stuff we get fed.
ReplyDeletewhy does lange seem to fight really awful opponents?? n e way I care about the undercards!!! soon as they're done, GONE! lol...
