Ring Magazine's Lem Satterfield is reporting that the WBA has ordered an immediate rematch between WBA/IBF Super Lightweight champion Lamont Peterson and former champion Amir Khan.
"I just received, a half an hour ago, a letter from the WBA on their official decision that they are going to order an immediate rematch between Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson," Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, told Satterfield. "I think that it's the right decision, and I hope that we can get the rematch done."
Some of the controversy stems from the actions of IBF affiliate Mustafa Ameen, who has been dubbed, the "Mystery Man," as a result of his alledged rinside behavior that was caught on video and seemed to include picking up a yellow scoring slip near WBA ringside scoring official Michael Welsh during the Dec. 10 fight.
Ameen will address his actions during the IBF hearing and discussion with officials representing Khan and Golden Boy in New Jersey, and Schaefer is hoping for a similar result.
I wonder if they're gonna give this a credential to the rematch? Shit, maybe they should make him one of the judges, better yet, the referee.
ReplyDeleteLamont should hold a press conference at the MLK Memorial, follow in Bowe's footsteps, throw the WBA belt in the trash and just fight for the IBF belt. WBA was paid their sanctioning fees for the fight, they just want to get paid again quickly.
ReplyDeleteThis is a quote from a press release on the immediate rematch
ReplyDelete"After a Golden Boy protest, the WBA concluded that the bout’s outcome was impacted by referee Joseph Cooper’s questionable failure to credit Khan with a knockdown in round one and his questionable decisions to deduct points from Khan in rounds seven and 12"
WTF is the editor talking about, relating to the first round knockdown, Khan was credited with the knockdown on the scorecards. All three scorecards were 10-8 for round 1, so WTF is the point of that ridiculous quote?
Folks, this has NOTHING to do with the DC commission. They did their job.
ReplyDeleteThis has to do with the WBA and IBF as well as Golden Boy Promotions. THEY chose Joe Cooper to be the referee without researching the type of referee he was.
Mustafa Aleem has NO connection to the DC Commission. None of the three judges had any connection to the DC Commission. Paul Artisst, who once was the head of the DC Commission, was working in an IBF capacity, not a DC capacity.
Stop blaming the DC Commission. They are just not a part of this "controversy."
If Khan had taken his loss like a man (like he asked Zab Judah to do), there would be NO controversy!
There goes the alphabet organizations messing up boxing again.
ReplyDeleteThey ARE to blame Gary, and I'll apologize for you on your ignorance on the issue. The commission IS there to police and oversee everything that happens ESPECIALLY ringside, and if Ameen had some questionable behavior, which is obvious from the videos, then the commission should have recognized that and addressed the situation, which they did not, they were oblivious to what was going on RINGSIDE! So I'm sorry to say Gary, with all due respect, this is your forum and all, and you do a great job, but you are wrong here.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, the DC Commission ARE there to police the event, oversee and regulate EVERYTHING within the rules and regulation, to include behavior of Ringside officials, guests, visitors, etc. So...if the DC Commission sat there and watched this Aleem or whatever the hell his name is, butt in and have his nose where it shouldnt' have been, the the Commissioners WERE NOT doing their job! PERIOD! I'm sure they collected their paycheck for the even though, typical for DC. Officials not doing their job, yet still receiving a paycheck! The DC Boxing Commission NEEDS a makeover!
ReplyDelete"If Khan had taken his loss like a man (like he asked Zab Judah to do), there would be NO controversy!"
ReplyDeleteWow Gary I thought you were better than this, tough guy bs. Khan should take the loss like a man IF it was fair and clean, which even the most casual observer would know the fight was not.
You don't think the Judah camp thought the decision was unfair. Yet, as Barry Hunter said, Golden Boy said that Judah should move on.
ReplyDeleteYet Khan kept this going for more than a month.
As far as the DC Commission is concerned, their job is to sanction a bout like that. The WBA and IBF rule the roost in a title situation. I'm not sure (I could be wrong) but the DC Commission may not have known who Aleem was. Should they have been more diligent in finding out? Probably so. The final say in that case rests with the governing bodies in a title situation, however.
The DC Commission is the #1 and they are the Police of the EVERYTHING. They santion and oversee everything that goes on. The WBA/IBF may have different rules that they use (i.e. 3 knockdown rule, fighters being saved by the bell, etc.) but thats the extent of their powers.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the DC commision is to blame. DC has never had very much pull on the boxing scene. Golden Boy and Bob Arum are to blame. Remember Arum dropped Lamont when he lost. Lamont fought his way back to the top and won the belt. Now Golden Boy and Arum are F@*ked up with that. They want that belt back in thier stable asap and will do anything to get it back.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Lamont! They gonna make it hard for you to win, so this time put that bamma to sleep so they can't come up with any excuses this time.
All ya'll are in dark, haha. The DC Commission ARE THERE TO POLICE THE EVENT! Ya'll are as lost and unaware as the damn commission, haha! You wont see another big card in DC for at least another 20 years cuz ya'll are so STOOPID!
ReplyDeleteUnder no circumstance should anyone other than the judge or the Ref be touching that score card. Aleem shouldn't have even been talking to the Judge much less touching the score card!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah you are right they should of never talked to them stay away from them, this was a tittle fight yall can't be acting like y'all do in amutre fights and want to see n touch everything before is announce u could get away with it in Dc or the amutres this are the big legues dummy's
ReplyDeletefuck the WBA go fight PACMAN or MONEy that who u need to call out get the most money u can get about DC that let GB run the show that seat back and watch so that night DC was trash they are rite and fuck the belt if u fight Khan make GB sign u and Ant so get sign by somebody and the WBA let it go
ReplyDeleteThank god that everyone on this forum aren't a bunch of idiots. I was begining to wonder before the previous 4 or 5 posters, the only people on this thread that had anything intelligent to say.
ReplyDeleteUs black folk really know how to screw stuff up.
ReplyDeleteIts not black or white, its just the the DC! DISGRUNTLED AND CORRUPT!!!
ReplyDeleteCommission has final say in selecting all officials.
ReplyDeleteI believe that's a federal law.
ReplyDeletehighlighting the card, Adrien “The Problem” Broner who will put his WBO junior lightweight title on the line against the No. 1 contender Eloy “Prince” Perez. This fight has been brewing for some time and it will pit undefeated fighters that truly act like they don’t like each other.
ReplyDeleteBroner, the more talkative of the two fighters was not shy and said “Perez is feather-fisted in a featherweight division and that’s not a good combination when I’m punching like a middleweight” and he continued by letting Perez know that , “he better come prepared because if he don’t I’m going to get in his ass like Preparation H”. Broner concluded with, “February 25 there’s going to be a ‘Problem’ and I will be victorious.”
Perez, who was somewhat subdued in his remarks, retorted, “I want to thank Adrien for giving me a shot at ‘The Problem.’ I’m excited to fight for the world title. I have one message for Adrien, I’m not a bean burrito kind of guy, I’m a lasagna kind of guy.”
why is the word "IDIOT" censored on this board? jus curious, is it really that offensive of a word?
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to see another rematch. It has a very controversial fight. I can't wait to buy and see this Donaire vs Vasquez Tickets fight
ReplyDeleteThe blame solely belongs to Crybaby Jones! Are you ready to cry, then let's cry line in the ring made everyone cry, so they were blinded by tears that fell on the scorecards causing the numbers to be smudged!
ReplyDeleteIf they have a better announcer who didn't cry all the time, this would have never happened.
This Saturday on Penn Ave, we have a ban Crybaby Jones from the ring rally so come out and support it! We will be introducing our new ring announcer of choice!
Javeen Haywood
Terrance Crawford you need to stop this thrashing of Mr Jones
