Former WBA Middleweight champion William Joppy is in Montreal, Canada getting ready for a 10-round matchup against Sebastian "Double Trouble" Demers tomorrow night at the Montreal Casino.
Joppy (39-5-1, 30 KO's) weighed in at 169 1/2 for this super middleweight bout and it is the second straight time Joppy has fought in Montreal. On February 29, 2008, Joppy lost a bid for the IBF Super Middleweight title when he was stopped by Lucian Bute in the 10th round. Demers (30-2, 11 KO's) weighed in at 169 1/4 and has won five in a row including capturing the vacant NABF Super Middleweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Nicholson Poulard on November 7 at the Montreal Casino.

This is about Joppy (Larry Holmes VERY over rated would an all time great like Marciano, Ali, Foreman, Frazier) been SCARED TO DEATH when they fought Tyson like Holmes was?
Back to Joppy - very, very good fighter. Very accomplished. Very under rated. And a good guy to boot. I remember when he fought Hopkins in AC and we were up for the fight. Here's Joppy, in the Main Event of the big show of the night, and on the day of the show he's standing in a long line outside one of the cafes waiting for something to eat. He was all by himself and just an unassuming guy. He wasn't going to management or anything saying let me break in line, I'm special, do you know who I am? He showed humility, class, heart, and skill throughout his career. And Demers is a very good young fighter and Joppy, past his prime, hung with him.
Joppy got robbed in Canada,he needed a knockout to get a draw, he won 6 out of 10 rds easy. He still has some skills left good job champ.
You said "best jab in boxing since Ali". I was merely pointing out that Larry Holmes arguably had the best jab since Muhammad Ali. That was the point, and no disrespect intended towards Joppy.
Holmes had a good jab because people say he had a good jab and it's been repeated for the last twenty years or so. Just b/c people said it doesn't make it so. He was good, but not great and I will always stand by that.
Most accomplished champ where, good boxer but Mark Johnson is the most accomplished champ in the DMV since sugar ray. Larry Holmes is one of the greatest boxer's in history and had one of the best jab's of all-time, if u stand by what u said it show's ur knowledge of boxing

That quote is absolute, unadulterated horseshit! He lost to Michael Spinks twice, the first heavyweight champ to lose to a light heavyweight champ in 100 years. He got gift decisions against Ken Norton, Tim Witherspoon, and Carl "The Truth" Williams. He was losing to Gerry Cooney when he knocked him out. And he was scared like a little itty bitty baby when he fought Mike Tyson who was thirsty for his mammy's titty! Larry Holmes was no better than the garbage that is in the hevyweight division today! Just a beltholder really, nothing more.
Mark Johnson was a truly great fighter. Too bad he was at such a low weight class where they don't make any money or get real exposure. That dude was great.
