Congratulations to Landover, MD 125-pounder Kevin Rivers, who captured the gold medal at the USA Boxing National Championships at the Denver Coliseum in Denver, CO. Rivers defeated Jerren Cochran 21-11 moments ago in the championship bout.
Glen Burnie, MD 201-pounder Nick Kisner had to settle for the silver medal, falling in his title bout to Jordan Shimmell of Hudsoncille, MI, 9-6.
On Friday, Thomas Williams of Fort Washington, MD lost the bronze medal boxoff in the 178-pound division as he fell by disqualification to Steve Geffrard of Boca Raton, FL. The loss was the second straight DQ loss for Williams in the tournament.
There was a local presence among the officials at the tournament as Brent Bovell and Jim McNally served as referees during the tournament.

Headbangers ran the tables at the U.S. Championships and J.O.s (4) gold medals and (2) bronze medals. More than many regions alone.
Congratulations to PVA on bringing home (10) medalist from the tourn.

Headbangers had 3 golds not 4. Really two because Asia is from Benning Park and only been up HB for a hot minute. One J.O gold medal with all them kids really isn't nothing to talk about.
From my understanding there was an age limit between 15 and 16 years old. Also a weight restriction min of 101 lbs. So many of their kids couldn't attend the nationals. Out of the 5 kids that qaulified for the J.O.s only 1 didn't make it. the 4 that attended bought home medals. That's impressive for any gym.
Floyd Favors, also represented with a fine job from PVA as an official.
Patrick Harris is a real HeadBanger so you must give all the credit to them for that.

HB had only one JO champ out of all those kids over there. Even if i give you the weight restrictions for the JO's..lol. Tell me what happen during the 09 Silver Gloves and the 08 Ringside Worlds???? One at the Silvers (Kareem) and only Two at the Worlds. They had like 50 kids at the Worlds..lol...

Asia can box, fight whatever you want to call it. She represented well and I can't wait to see how she does out of the country. Ringside = not really important. good tourney though. Silvers = best of the best for 10 to 15 y.o. with a chance to go out of the country for many winner. JO = best of the best 15/16 with same chance for travel. USA = best amateur + getting paid for a year. That's how I would rank them in order of importance and prestigue. Of course you take 50 boxers to Ringside, it's an invitational. You pay, you play. You have to earn ur way to the others. If I had 100 boxers in my gym, I would take them all to Ringside too.

2 SENIORS MEDAL. RIVERS WITH GOLD AND KISNER WITH SILVER. AND AS I HEAR THOUGHT TO AS MANY THAT KISNER HAD WON THE BOUT AND DID NOT GET CREDIT FOR MANY OF HIS BLOWS. BUT HE STILL IS YOUNG AND STILL HAS ANOTHER 3 YEARS BEFORE OLYMPICS. AND CONGRATS TO ALL THE JUNIORS FOR TAKING CARE OF BUISSNESS. MD/DC IN THE HOUSE

All who have seen Asia box knows she can fight, but it was the tough regime, training techniques,hard work and sparring at the Headbangers Gym that helped. I look foward to seeing her box at the next level. (Open)
I understand she started boxing at Benning Park but was fine tuned at the Haedbangers with Coaeches Darly Barry Hunter. Every body knows that Kevin Rivers was not a standout boxer at Round 1, he never won a Silver gloves tournament. During those days Dominic, Darius DeeDee was the names at that gym. Way to go Kiven it's your turn.
First of all Thomas Williams was disqualified in his semi-final bout against Robert Brant. Rules say if a boxer is disqualified in the semis he or she is unable to compete in the medal round. Thomas didn't even fight Steve geffrard on the box offs because he couldn't. I actually seen his semi bout against brant when he was disqualified for phantom low blow calls. Ones who didn't even go to the nationals. Coaches or boxers shouldn't even talk. Point blank!!!!!
KEVIN RIVERS WAS A LIL BEAST WITH ROUND ONE. A LOT OF FIGHTERS DIDN'T WIN THE SILVERS. HE DID WELL IN THE YEARS HE WENT. HE WON THE NATIONAL PAL AND RINGSIDE WORLDS TOO. HE'S DOING WELL OVER HB BUT TO SAY HE WAS NOT GOOD OVER ROUND ONE IS NOT TRUE.
Let's give all the gym's in the area some love. It is really great for the PVA. Also let's give prop's to Floyd and Brent for doing a great job. I told yall Floyd is a good ref.
