Not only did the Beltway-area boxers perform well at the USA Nationals this past week in Denver, CO, but so did area officials, as two local referees walked away with Outstanding Referee awards.
Brent Bovell won his second Outstanding Referee award adding to the award he won in 2007. However, Bovell received another honor as he was chosen as an AIBA (International Amateur Boxing Association) referee, meaning he is now able to referee amateur bouts around the world.
Only about 20 out of 200 AIBA referees come from the United States and the Beltway now has two of them with Bovell joining US Naval Academy Head Coach Jim McNally (who officiated at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China).
Floyd Favors, who worked with the Junior tournament in Denver, was named First Time Outstanding Referee. Favors has been a prominent member of the Beltway amateur scene for a number of years, first as a champion amateur boxer and currently as an official.

You da man Brent!!
I told yall Floyd was a good ref. Good job to Floyd and Brent represent the pva.were proud of both of you guy's
You all let Pop Fox know that Floyd is a Nationally known Referee that has been awarded for his outstanding referee work. I still say that his son was smacking when he boxed DA-Da Jr last year or when they boxed. So, Fox, correct your son's problem of smacking.
Brent and Floyd have put notice to the National body that PVA are good in all areas of Amateur boxing!
