Beltway Amateurs Receive Tough Challenges During USA Nationals!

The third day of competition at the USA National Boxing Championships in Denver, CO proved to be a rough one for some of our Beltway Boxers. Ten area amateurs remain in the competition.

In the Senior Male division, Kevin Rivers of Landover, MD moved into the quarterfinals by defeating Gabino Saenz of Indio, CA, 6-4.

Thomas Williams of Fort Washington, MD advanced to the quarterfinals of the 178-pound class with a 22-13 win over Pina Armando of Chicago, IL.

In the 201-pound class, Glen Burnie, MD's Nick Kisner advanced to the final eight with a 12-1 decision over Akeem Holland of San Mateo, CA.

However, Gary Allen Russell of Capitol Heights, MD lost his bout in the 141-pound division, dropping a 31-12 decision to Jose Benavidez of Phoenix, AZ.

Also, Travis Peterkin of Edgewood, MD lost his bout in the 165-pound class, falling to Kurtiss Colvin of Austin, TX, 19-15.

There was a lot of action in the Junior competition as five Beltway Boxers advanced to today's finals.

In the 138-pound division, Michael Reed of Waldorf, MD stopped Marcos Rodriguez of Midland, TX at 28 seconds of the third round.

DC's Antoine Douglas advanced in the 145-pound class by decision over Erik Sanchez of Salinas, CA, 12-8.

At 165-pounds, D'Mitrius Ballard of Temple Hills, MD won a bout via first-round retirement over Kani Coleman of Ripley, TN.

Jerry Odom of Bowie, MD won by RSC-2 at 1:36 seconds over Marcus Oldham in the 176-pound division.

Also, in the female 132-pound class, DC's Asia Stevenson stopped Lauryn Corey of Ashland, KY at 28 seconds of the second round.

In the 101-pound class, Patrick Harris of Hyattsville, MD lost his bid for the finals, falling to Jonathan Benitez of Awianae, HI, 6-3.

Gary Antonio Russell of Capitol Heights fell in the 114-pound division to Tramaine Williams of New Haven, CT, 14-8.

The only area boxer who has not competed yet is Open female Maria Cash of Oxon Hill, MD in the 112-pound division.

Goodness Gracious! Looks like D Mitrious Ballard, Mike Reed and Jerry Odem are doomed for stardom.
Our prayers are with you my brothers. Alan, Antonio, Chisholm, hang in there baby. Most will never even get there. Be proud, be loud, walk tall, next year will be hear before you know it.

two boxers never belonged there in the first place. truth be told-one lost locally, and lost again in the regionals. The other received and ealy X mas present.

D'mitrius Ballard got robbed!!! Keep your head up. Lil Pat and Baye did excellent also. Everybody from the PVA showed they deserved to be there. Great showing by the PVA. Congrats to all who represented and won the championship.
